Chapter 28
C28 – Scorpion
Room 888 was among the premier choices at Joy KTV.
Qi Ning was aware that the hourly rate for this room was around 200 yuan.
In a major city, that figure wouldn’t raise eyebrows. But in a smaller city like Sigu, it was a price beyond the reach of the average person.
“You must be loaded,” Qi Ning commented with a smile to Fu Nian.
Fu Nian came from an upper-middle-class family. His father owned a profitable factory, and his mother held a minor leadership position in a government agency.
“It’s nothing extraordinary,” Fu Nian replied, his smile tinged with embarrassment.
Then his phone rang. He looked at Qi Ning apologetically and said, “I need to step out to take this call.”
With that, he hurried out of the room.
Watching Fu Nian’s retreat, Qi Ning shook his head in resignation. “Couldn’t they find someone with a bit more convincing acting skills?”
Five minutes after Fu Nian’s departure, the room’s door swung open.
Pei Liang and Scorpion entered, shoulder to shoulder.
Qi Ning had sensed that today’s events might be a setup, but he hadn’t anticipated Pei Liang as the architect of the trap. Yet, it made sense; he hadn’t crossed anyone else recently.
Pei Liang’s smirk was met with Qi Ning’s look of astonishment. “Bet you didn’t see it coming from me,” Pei Liang taunted.
Qi Ning was on high alert, replying, “I truly didn’t.”
His wariness wasn’t for Pei Liang but for the muscular man at his side. With his combat skills honed to perfection, Qi Ning’s instincts were razor-sharp, and he could sense the danger the man represented.
Qi Ning locked eyes with the man, feeling waves of murderous intent emanating from him.
“He hasn’t actually killed someone, has he?” Qi Ning wondered, a cold fear creeping over him.
“Scared?” Pei Liang observed the shift in Qi Ning’s demeanor and boasted, “Brother Scorpion is formidable. If you’re scared, bow down and apologize now, and I might just forgive you.”
At Pei Liang’s words, Qi Ning saw Scorpion shoot him a displeased glance.
Pei Liang seemed to have a sudden realization and quickly added, “And then sincerely apologize to our boss.”
Qi Ning was perplexed; he couldn’t recall ever crossing their leader.
Pei Liang, noticing Qi Ning’s defiance, turned to Scorpion and said, “Brother Scorpion, look at him still resisting. Shouldn’t you straighten him out?”
Scorpion gave Pei Liang a look, then turned to Qi Ning and nodded, “I really should teach him a lesson. He had the audacity to disrespect Linshan. If I don’t handle this, Linshan’s reputation could suffer.”
At Scorpion’s words, a cruel smile twisted Pei Liang’s features. “You’ve been lucky in the past. This time, let’s see if your luck holds up.”
“You’ve made me lose face. This time, I won’t let you off easily.”
Qi Ning, faced with Pei Liang’s smug look, felt a sense of resignation.
“Kid,” Scorpion said in a gruff voice to Qi Ning, “if you come and apologize to our boss now, I’ll spare you.”
“Shut up!” Qi Ning, having had enough of their antics, glared at them and spoke with clear hostility. “If you’re going to make a move, then bring it on.”
