Chapter 259: Letters
Waking up after a not-so-ideal sleep, Shye yawned, groggily getting out of bed to wash his face and leave the darned place as soon as possible.
Subsequently, once he was done with his preparations, Shye swiftly headed towards the counter to check out, not daring to turn his head left or right for fear of seeing something inappropriate again.
Due to the unholy visions he saw at the bar's stage, Shye couldn't help but think about Shirley and their past loving experiences.
How delightful it would be if they could reside together!
Unfortunately, his dreams of having sexual intimacy with Shirley every day would have to remain a dream for the time being.
Shaking his head to throw the pesky inappropriate thoughts out the window, Shye checked out of the strange inn.
He then headed towards a nearby restaurant to have a simple breakfast before heading towards the post office.
Perhaps Shirley has already sent a letter to him!
A quarter of an hour later, he finally arrived at a huge stone building.
It wasn't elegant, however, it was majestic.
Entering the post office with a hopeful smile, Shye looked around.
'Luckily, I came early.' He mused, walking towards the end of the short line.
While waiting for his turn, Shye suddenly remembered that he currently had lots of money and it would be a shame to not use it to improve his overall strength.
The question is, how?
Wracking his brain to think of ways to improve himself the "normal" way, Shye looked lost in his thoughts.
Fortunately, just a few seconds later, a good one popped up in his mind.
'Hmm…maybe I can purchase lots of basic mage spells using silver coins along with spell mastery tonics and mana potions?' Shye pondered.
He wasn't satisfied with his current arsenal as a mage.
Shye knew that he could level up his skills by simply spamming its usage, hence, in theory, as long as he had lots of mana potions, he could swiftly level the new skills up to at least level three.
After that, he should have an easier time grinding system points and guild contribution points.
'Alright then, let's try that!' Shye thought inwardly.
Shortly after he formulated a solid plan on how to improve as a mage, he was called by the staff member manning the stone counter as it was already his turn.
"Hello sir, Do you have any valid IDs so we can check if somebody sent you a letter?" The staff member asked with a slight smile on his face.
He hated his current job, however, he had no choice but to smile since he would be fired if he didn't.
Should that happen, his beloved wife and son would have nothing to eat.
"Hello, here's my adventurer license" Shye replied, reciprocating the staff member's slight smile.
It was still morning so his recent innate crankiness is still easily controllable.
The staff member worked masterfully, handing over his adventurer license along with two letters within one and a half minutes, widening the smile on Shye's face.
Feeling generous, Shye gave the staff member a twenty silver coin tip, in turn making the staff member thank him profusely.
The underpaid staff member not only lacks proper compensation but also finds little time to rest until his shift concludes.
Unbeknownst to Shye, his casual tip meant a great deal to the staff member, enabling him to buy numerous essentials as well as some delicious snacks and decent-quality meat.
Twenty silver coins was a small amount to Shye, yet, to the staff member it was equivalent to a third of his income for a month.
Truly a huge unexpected blessing.
As for the nice guy, Shye, he already left the post office.
Heading straight towards the largest mage shop in Balkrow City which also happened to be the shop Wendy was partnered with, Shye opened the contents of the first letter.
"Shye, my beloved, are you doing well? Make sure to eat and bathe properly alright? I successfully passed the Raven's Blade Nookbury Branch's rookie admission exam and placed fourth overall. As expected, there were quite a few annoying individuals in this branch and I believe it's the same over there. I believe in you and I'm sure you'll easily work your way to the top.
I will do my best to do the same so don't worry about me. I hope we can see each other soon. If you somehow have the time to visit me, then you can look for me in the Nookbury branch or at an inn called "The White Forge". Love, Shirley."
Reading his girlfriend's heartfelt letter, Shye couldn't help but slightly tear up.
'Ahh crap…I really want to see her right now….' Shye lamented. 'Well, probably not until I become a ruby-ranked adventurer. I must do my best to shorten her waiting time!'
After reading Shirley's letter, Shye gently opened the other one.
"Big Brother, I hope you're doing great. Please eat proper meals and take regular baths. You stink sometimes when you're too focused after all. You don't have to worry about me, I'm doing well in the academy. However, sometimes, it does feel a bit lonely remembering the fact that you're so far away. I'll do my best so we can live near each other as soon as possible.
I miss you, Big Brother. Love, Maia"
Once he was done, Shye wiped the tears welling on the corners of his eyes as it would be a bit embarrassing to cry in public.
Both letters were heartfelt so it was hard for him to hold his emotions back.
'We'll see each other again…For now, I shall focus!' he thought, a resolute glint appearing in his eyes.
Due to the energy build-up brought about by his raging emotions, Shye started sprinting towards the Gold Wing Spellcaster Shop, causing lots of heads to turn his way as he kicked up small clouds of dust and stirred up small gusts of wind.
He was a bit excited now as he wanted to surprise not only Shirley and Maia but also his friends.
'Heh, I wonder how David and Harry would react once they learn of my subclass and how strong of a mage I am?'
