Chapter 581: 580 Inspection
Chapter 581: 580 Inspection
G City, late at night
Jiang Liu opened the door, holding a bag in his hand as he entered the house.
In the brightly-lit living room, a slender woman was nestled on the not-so-spacious couch, cuddling a small pillow in the corner of the sofa.
Although the entertainment program was playing on the LCD screen, her gaze was unfocused, staring at a certain spot in front, and she wasn’t watching the TV.
On her delicate and beautiful face, a hint of confusion and conflict were apparent. She didn’t hear the door opening, and she didn’t see him enter.
Jiang Liu paused his steps, his tall and straight body stood at the entrance for two seconds, his dark eyes focused on Shen Yuting in the couch. After a few days apart, he found that he missed her dearly. Seeing her at this moment, comforted him greatly.
His lips unconsciously curved into a soft smile, gentle and satisfied, just because she was here waiting for him.
Yet, guilt welled up in his heart. He lied to her, and even if she didn’t know, he felt guilty.
He treaded softly towards the couch, seeing her maintaining the same posture and seeming lost without looking in his direction, something tightened in his heart. He called out to her, “Yuting!”
Hearing his voice, Shen Yuting blinked twice, slowly turned her face and looked up at him.
A smile appeared on Jiang Liu’s handsome face. He advanced two steps, placed the bag on the couch, bent down, opened his arms to embrace her, his voice was gentle and full of yearning, “Yuting, I’m back. Did you miss me these past few days?”
Shen Yuting’s eyes slightly shifted at his words. When his arms encircled her shoulders, her body stiffened.
Her face didn’t show the joy that Jiang Liu hoped for. In fact, she didn’t even speak a word to him. Her gaze at him was cold and distant.
Jiang Liu’s smile froze. His eyes stared at her inquisitively, “Yuting, what’s wrong?”
Shen Yuting looked up at him with indifferent eyes. She was surrounded by his familiar masculine scent, and she couldn’t describe what she was feeling.
This man, she wasn’t devoid of affection for him. Though she wasn’t in love yet, she was trying hard to fall in love with him and had even considered moving towards a future together with him.
“Why did you lie to me?”
Her words hung in the air, Jiang Liu, who was bending down, suddenly froze. A moment ago he was filled with confusion, and now, he looked at her in astonishment and alarm.
For a moment, the room was so quiet it was suffocating.
He didn’t answer, Shen Yuting didn’t question further. Their eyes met, and the calmness in his heart gradually crumbled under her cold questioning gaze.
“Yuting.”
After a good while, Jiang Liu finally spoke, wondering how she found out.
“Why did you pretend to be on a business trip instead of being hospitalized?”
Shen Yuting questioned very calmly without arguing or showing much anger. Nonetheless, Jiang Liu’s heart was in a mess. His eyes flitted and his lips pursed tightly, “Yuting, I didn’t want you to worry.”
By now, he couldn’t lie to her anymore.
He didn’t know how she found out about his hospitalization instead of the supposed business trip. He let go of her and sat down, reaching out his hand to grasp hers, but Shen Yuting avoided it.
His face slightly changed, he explained softly, “Yuting, I didn’t mean to deceive you. That night, after our call, I was about to take a taxi home when I was surrounded and attacked by a gang of street thugs…”
Jiang Liu explained the incident that night in a low voice, his words were sincere.
Shen Yuting looked at his eyes while listening to his recounting of the incident. A scene of him being surrounded by a mob formed in her mind. A sense of pain slowly spread in her heart.
“Have you offended someone?”
She asked indifferently. Her gaze lingered on his forehead, where a scar was faintly visible under his hair. Looking down, she noticed the injury on his body. Jiang Liu immediately unbuttoned his shirt to reveal the wound on his abdomen.
Although the stitches have been removed, the scar was still visible.
“Yuting, I don’t know who they are. Ever since I started working, I’ve been minding my own business and didn’t offend anyone. However, it’s not impossible that those people were wronged by me in the past.”
Certainly, Cheng Jia had told him those thugs were hired by Gu Kai. She even presented some so-called evidence. While he harbored some doubt, he didn’t fully believe it and thus didn’t tell Shen Yuting about it.
Seeing his wounds, the anger in Shen Yuting’s heart gradually subsided, replaced by a mild heartache. She slowly reached out to touch his wound, glanced at his seemingly thinner face, and said dully, “Why are you so stupid? You should’ve told me when you got injured.”
Listening to her words of concern, Jiang Liu broke out in a pleased smile.
His smile was dazzling and charming, which irked Shen Yuting, and she glared at him, “You have the nerve to smile.”
Jiang Liu quickly extinguished his smile, putting on a remorseful expression, looking at Shen Yuting pitifully, he asked cautiously, “Yuting, how did you know I was hospitalized? Did you.. Call my office?”
“Someone told me.”
When Shen Yuting said these words, there was a hint of sourness in her tone.

D country.
Mo Xiuchen did as he said. He accompanied Wen Ran throughout all the inspections. When she was having her blood drawn, he stayed by her side, holding her other hand tightly. His deep eyes stared intently at her hand, unaware whether it was his strong aura causing the nurse to be anxious or his handsomeness.
Either way, the nurse failed to draw blood from Wen Ran’s hand for the first time.
“What’s going on? Why isn’t there any blood?”
Mo Xiuchen saw Wen Ran frowning, making a light sound of discomfort when the needle jabbed in. After a long while, there was no blood flowing out. Instead, the nurse was fumbling with the needle. His handsome face darkened, his tone questioning.
Being questioned by him, the nurse’s face turned slightly pale, as she stuttered an explanation, “Perhaps it’s difficult to draw blood from this lady.”
“Difficult to draw blood?”
Mo Xiuchen’s tone became even colder. What was this nonsense? Was there not blood in Ran’s body? “Stop pricking her with the needle and get the head nurse here.”
Seeing her about to try another spot for the injection, Mo Xiuchen commanded coldly in an undeniable tone.
Just as the nurse was about to act, she halted after his reprimand.
Looking up at Mo Xiuchen, she wanted to explain, but as she met his harsh and cold eyes, she only felt a chill in her heart and nodded subconsciously. She replied in English, turned around and went to call the head nurse.
Seeing the young nurse pale and teary-eyed, Wen Ran couldn’t bear it. She lightly moved the hand that Mo Xiuchen had been holding and gently spoke, “Xiuchen, don’t get mad. It might be that my veins are hard to find. It’s not the nurse’s fault. Let her try again.”
