Chapter 580: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Chapter 580: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Mo Xiuchen laughs openly, gets up from the bed, and says with a soft voice: “Wait for me a little bit, I’ll be quick.”
After he says that, he gently ruffles Wen Ran’s hair, grabs a towel, and strides into the bathroom.
Watching his figure disappear at the bathroom door, Wen Ran finally walks over to the vanity to sit, realizing she accidentally brought the towel out, her delicate eyebrows furrow in slight dismay.
Normally, such an act wouldn’t bother her, everyone forgets something at times. But her present situation is different, forgetful and scatter-brained, causing her to feel panicked.
Another key point is that she felt extremely tired after yesterday’s twenty-hour flight. She had slept on the plane, but after alighting, she felt more exhausted than before or even than the last time she flew to Bali Island.
So, after arriving at the hotel yesterday, she quickly drifted off to sleep. After having dinner, she only spent a little time chatting with her father and Mo Xiuchen before she headed to bed again.
Mo Xiuchen asked her if she wanted to go for a walk or visit the night market, but she declined.
Mo Xiuchen moves quickly, taking only a few minutes to finish freshening up. He emerges from the bathroom looking strikingly handsome, vibrant, and elegantly gentle.
A soft smile lingers on his lips, his eyes sparkling warmly. Noting Wen Ran sitting there, dazedly looking at him, he doesn’t intervene but just gazes back at her affectionately.
The room is quiet for a moment.
He walks over to her, extends his hand to pull her up from the chair, lowers his head, and smiles lightly, “Ranran, let’s go next door to wake up dad, then we all can have breakfast together.”
“You look really handsome today.”
Wen Ran blurted out a compliment. Actually, this man was always handsome, but for some reason, these days, she found herself easily entranced by him.
The smile on Mo Xiuchen’s lips widened hearing her complimentary words. The joy in his deep eyes became more intense, making his already handsome face appear even more charming. Suddenly pulling her closer, Wen Ran found herself falling into his arms.
“Ranran, I like your compliments a lot.”
He says in a low voice, whispering in her ear before engulfing in a quiet laughter.
His warm breath brushes over her ear, his lips unintentionally sweep past her earlobe, and Wen Ran’s heart skips a beat. Her cheeks flush as his breath warms her face.
She presses her lips together, looking up at him, Mo Xiuchen speaks self-flatteringly: “Ranran, since you also find me handsome, repeat this compliment to me every day from now on!”
“Huh?”
Wen Ran blinks in surprise.
Mo Xiuchen laughs uninhibitedly, lightly flicking her nose and jesting, “Didn’t you agree I’m handsome? Now you’re allowed to express your true feelings every day. Ranran, you’re also very beautiful.”
Saying the last part, he pauses for a moment, eyeing her obliquely with a hint of thought, then adds a compliment for her too.
“Pfft…”
Wen Ran suddenly laughs, her bright eyes curving into crescents, her beauty remarkable, “What’s this? The huckster selling his melons, praising his own goods?”
Though they are a married couple, they each boast about the other every day. If other people knew about it, they’d be sure to call them self-centered.
Mo Xiuchen pretends to scowl, correcting her mistake: “This isn’t self-flattery; it’s seeing beauty through one’s affection. In my eyes, you’re already perfect.”
The tone of his voice is calm, without intentional sweetness, nor a deep confession; it’s just an offhand expression of his true feelings. When Wen Ran hears it, her heart surges with warmth.
“Okay, I also think Mr. Mo is the most handsome and perfect man in the world. I’m quite hungry now, let’s go see if my father has gotten up yet.”
Mo Xiuchen’s lips curl up even higher at Wen Ran’s compliments; her praising words are a delight to his ears. In particular, when she acknowledges him to be the most outstanding and perfect man in the entire world, he feels elated.
He hopes that a few decades from now, when they are both old and grey, in Ranran’s heart, he would still be the most handsome, most perfect man. Even if she becomes old, nearly blind, and deaf, she would still be the most precious one in his heart.
He holds her hand and steps out of the room, just in time to see the door of the opposite room open. Gu Yan comes out, sees them, blinks, then smiles, “Ranran, Mo Xiuchen, I was about to knock on your door to wake you up.”
“Dad, I woke up ages ago!”
Wen Ran playfully blinks her eyes, laughing in reply.
She has to go to the hospital for a check-up later, she doesn’t know what the results will be like. She doesn’t want to start worrying now, deliberately ignoring the tension and unease, her tone is cheerful.
Gu Yan pauses for a second observing Wen Ran, laughs out loud, asking, “Did you sleep too early last night?”
Mo Xiuchen looks at Wen Ran warmly, adding, “After eating dinner last night, Ranran fell asleep not long after, she rested earlier than when she is at home.”
“The early bird catches the worm. I’m already hungry, let’s go and have breakfast,” Wen Ran says, her smile radiant.
**
After breakfast, Gu Yan takes Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran to the hospital.
The hospital is a short walk from the hotel, so they decide to go on foot. Gu Yan leads the way while Mo Xiuchen, hand in hand with Wen Ran, follows behind, his gentle gaze never leaving Wen Ran.
Upon reaching the hospital, they take the elevator upstairs.
Exiting the elevator, Wen Ran’s heart begins to race uncontrollably. Despite her best efforts to maintain an optimistic attitude, she can’t help but feel nervous.
Sensing her emotions, Mo Xiuchen at her side tightens his grip on her hand, lowers his eyes, and whispers gently into her ear, “Ranran, don’t be nervous, I’ll be with you all the way.”
Wen Ran looks up at him, seeing her reflection in his eyes, she forces a smile and nods, “Okay!”
“Later, I will accompany you during the check-up.”
Mo Xiuchen adds softly, his gaze filled with tender affection.
Upon entering the office, Mo Xiuchen instinctively tightens his grip around her hand again, trying to comfort her anxious heart.
Dr. Brown may be in his sixties, but he actually looks even younger than Gu Yan. Standing at 1.9 meters tall, he carries an imposing air about him and maintains a very healthy physique.
Standing in front of Wen Ran, he towers over her, making her look even more petite. Moreover, because she tied her hair in a simple ponytail today and didn’t put on any makeup, she looks like an innocently bashful high school student.
Dr. Brown wears a very amicable smile as he casually asks Wen Ran some questions, “…I have seen your last two medical reports, your condition has improved slightly. I want to know, after the second check-up, have you felt any discomfort or anything unusual…”
