Chapter 21
C21 – Mo Yunyun Was Shocked
When the topic of the Forbidden Zone arose, a subtle change crossed Mo Changyou’s face.
Reaching the Monarch status is the pinnacle of cultivation and martial arts.
Yet, a Monarch cannot grant themselves eternal life. As a result, many who feared death pursued an alternative path, becoming an Undying Man. By choosing this path, they could harness the blood essence of the Human Clan to create the fabled Undying Objects, achieving immortality.
This practice was the origin of the Forbidden Zone. An Undying Man could dominate an expanse of hundreds of thousands of miles, oppress the Human Clan within it, extract their blood essence, and craft the Undying Objects.
In the past, when Monarchs existed among the Human Clan during the Emperors’ Era—the era of Mo Changyou’s previous life—the Forbidden Zone was left quaking in fear. But now, in the Falling Monarch Times, there are no Monarchs, and the Undying Man reigns supreme.
The Human Clan in Central State managed to fare well.
“If I were in the South Wasteland, those old acquaintances would likely not spare me,” murmured Mo Changyou, a glimmer of murderous intent flickering in his eyes.
At that moment, Second Master Mo from the Imperial Capital spoke up, “Mo Feng, I didn’t mean to insult you. The three herbs you’re seeking are incredibly rare. It’s not that I’m unwilling to assist you, but you need to face the truth. There’s no chance for your recovery, and even if I found those herbs for you, it would be in vain.”
“Second Master, my reluctance to help isn’t the issue—it’s that your powers have waned. Securing those herbs for you would be futile.”
“Do you really believe you’re still the same expert who was a mere step away from becoming a Sovereign sixteen years ago, Second Master Mo? Do you think you’re still one of the empire’s mightiest geniuses? You’re not. You need to accept the truth. I’d have to be out of my mind to go searching for those herbs for you!”
The words of his former friends were as cold as icicles. Mo Feng was once proclaimed the empire’s foremost prodigy. At just over twenty, he had reached the Peak of Inscription Stage, a mere step from the esteemed title of Sovereign.
He was the empire’s sole genius with Grade One Talent.
As a result, he had befriended many individuals of high repute. He had numerous friends throughout the Imperial Capital. Given their capabilities, it wouldn’t have been too difficult for them to help Mo Feng find those three medicinal herbs if they had truly wished to do so.
“Do you think you’re still the Imperial Capital’s top prodigy and the Divine Martial Pavilion’s most esteemed disciple? What a laughable thought.” Lau Qianyan, the Imperial Capital’s Prime Minister, watched Mo Feng’s retreating figure with a sneer, his eyes brimming with mockery.
“He dreams of regaining his former level of cultivation? He’s probably just after some medicinal herbs.” The woman beside Lau Qianyan also sneered mercilessly, making sure her words reached Mo Feng. She was Lau Qianyan’s wife, who had once pursued Mo Feng.
Mo Feng, having stepped over the threshold, clenched his fist slightly but ultimately remained silent.
Back when he was the Imperial Capital’s leading genius, Lau Qianyan had pleaded with him to become sworn brothers. It was thanks to Mo Feng that Lau Qianyan had ascended to the position of Prime Minister within two decades.
Yet, Mo Feng did not seek out Yan Qingfeng, the current Supreme Elder of the Divine Martial Pavilion.
Yan Qingfeng had been a mere ordinary disciple of the Divine Martial Pavilion. His association with Mo Feng upon enrollment led to their brotherhood. Leveraging Mo Feng’s resources, he climbed the ranks to become one of the ten Supreme Elders of the Divine Martial Pavilion, wielding immense power.
Nevertheless, Mo Feng refrained from seeking him out. Now considered worthless, he didn’t want to subject Yan Qingfeng to ridicule. That would be a disgrace for Mo Feng.
“I won’t be a burden to you.” Draped in a grey robe, Mo Feng cast a glance at the towering pagoda nearby and sighed softly.
As Mo Feng departed, a shadowy figure emerged from the void, fixing a cold gaze on him before vanishing without a word.
Under the cover of night, an elegant figure skirted around several courtyards. Dressed in a flowing gown, she slipped quietly into Mo Changyou’s room.
“There’s no need for such caution. To the uninformed, it might seem you’ve come to share my bed tonight.” Mo Changyou chuckled, and with that, the house was suddenly aglow.
Mo Yunyun was the one who arrived.
Her cheeks flushed upon hearing Mo Changyou’s words. As a virgin, she wasn’t accustomed to such teasing from male disciples.
“Let’s focus on the matter at hand. I’ve brought Fire Cleansing Ganoderma and Demonic Heart Grass, but I couldn’t find the Eternal Snow Lotus,” Mo Yunyun quickly steered the conversation elsewhere. Yet, she couldn’t help but feel astonished.
The Eternal Snow Lotus, despite its high cost, was usually readily available. But for some reason, there seemed to be a shortage of medicinal herbs throughout Black Rock City.
The Mo family, who controlled the spirit stone mines, were the wealthiest in Black Rock City. However, with Mo Feng incapacitated, their overall strength was now the weakest. The Qian family dominated the medicinal herb trade, while the Zhao family wielded the most powerful cultivators in the city.
They possessed the most advanced cultivation techniques and the most potent Secret Arts in Black Rock City.
“Getting the Eternal Snow Lotus isn’t a challenge. It can be found in the Darkness Forest just outside Black Rock City. I can search for it there. What will you offer me in return?” Mo Changyou glanced at Mo Yunyun, a mischievous grin playing on his lips.
With her face feeling like it was on fire, Mo Yunyun quickly averted her gaze, staying silent.
Mo Changyou watched the bashful Mo Yunyun, chuckling and shaking his head. He didn’t press further, instead sitting down to meditate. In his hands, he held a small pouch filled with fist-sized blue hexagonal stones—spirit stones, brimming with the Spiritual Energy of Heaven and Earth, aiding cultivators in their practice.
To achieve the Vajra Sacred Body, he needed a surge of Spirit Energy to overcome the barriers. Having reached the ninth floor of the Azure Dragon Pagoda, he was ready to experiment as soon as he received the spirit stones.
“Even though I can’t directly inherit the original Vajra Sacred Body, I should be able to enhance my innate talent to Grade Three,” Mo Changyou whispered to himself. His meridians had been blocked due to the overwhelming power of his Vajra Sacred Body, which was why his talent was assessed at Grade Nine.
Armed with these spirit stones, he could clear most of the blockages, allowing his true talent to emerge.
As Mo Changyou formed his hand seals, faint runes began to swirl and rise around him. They floated like tiny sprites, encircling his frame.
Mo Changyou didn’t send Mo Yunyun away; he simply allowed her to watch.
In that instant, a colossal phantom emerged behind Mo Changyou, casting a glow that filled the room. He seemed to embody the Vajra, his body’s energy skyrocketing wildly.
Accompanied by the sound of something shattering, an endless stream of Spirit Energy from the spirit stones flooded into Mo Changyou’s body. His pores dilated, voraciously drawing in the spiritual essence.
Upon Mo Changyou’s head, two golden lines suddenly appeared. Mo Yunyun, her hand covering her mouth, looked on in utter amazement.
“A Grade Two Talent?”
