Fantasy: The Great Emperor Comes Back

Chapter 20

C20 – What Are You Being so Arrogant For?

“What? Mo Changyou reached the ninth floor of the Azure Dragon Pagoda?”

“That waste actually survived?”

Qian Hongyun was utterly baffled upon learning that her so-called fiancé, Mo Changyou, was not only alive but had also ascended to the ninth floor of the Azure Dragon Pagoda. It was utterly bewildering.

”How did someone with mere Grade Nine Talent make it to the ninth floor? Could there be a malfunction with the Mo family’s Azure Dragon Pagoda?” Qian Hongyun pondered.

But she quickly dismissed the thought. The idea of the Mo family’s Azure Dragon Pagoda being faulty was nearly impossible. The Pagoda had never experienced issues for many years and was shrouded in an aura of mystery.

Rumor had it that the man who had crippled the Second Master had intended to annihilate the entire Mo family. Yet, upon encountering the Azure Dragon Pagoda, he vanished into thin air, sparing the Second Master’s life.

Of course, that was just a rumor. No one had ever confirmed it.

For some inexplicable reason, learning that Mo Changyou had actually reached the ninth floor of the Azure Dragon Pagoda left Qian Hongyun feeling a tinge of bitterness. She clenched her fists, sensing that something was off.

“That waste, no matter how lucky, is still just Grade Nine Talent. He could only ever achieve Energy Condensation in his lifetime. He’s insignificant compared to Mr. Zhao.” With Zhao Shunzhe in mind, Qian Hongyun sneered.

“Does he even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Mr. Zhao? Xiaoyu, get in touch with the Mo family and have them send someone to eliminate that waste. This time, ensure he’s finished off for good!” Qian Hongyun commanded.

“Understood.”

“To think you’ve been masquerading as a nobody before me for sixteen years. Second Brother truly didn’t misjudge you; the son of that woman could never be just an ordinary person.” Mo Lianshen appraised Mo Changyou before him with a look of deep admiration.

“For the last sixteen years, you’ve also been playing the part of a submissive Patriarch.” Mo Changyou, far from being flattered by Mo Lianshen’s compliment, instead playfully mocked his uncle.

In Mo Changyou’s eyes, it was clear what kind of person Mo Lianshen was.

“His cultivation is just one step shy of reaching the Inscription level, yet he hasn’t made that step. It’s likely due to the inferior cultivation technique he’s been practicing, coupled with the diminishing efficiency of absorbing Spirit Energy as he ages. At this rate, it might take him another decade to reach the Inscription level,” Mo Changyou deduced with a glance, murmuring to himself.

“You do have some insight, yet you’ve managed to anger the Third Elder today. Aren’t you the least bit afraid?” Mo Lianshen asked with a hint of probing. He was curious to see if the young man was genuinely fearless or merely feigning courage.

“Third Elder Mo Yanglin? His influence is indeed significant within the Mo family. But today, I’ve caught your attention by openly defying the Third Elder. If something were to happen to me, people would suspect him, even if he wasn’t directly responsible. Moreover, due to their wariness of you, he wouldn’t dare to harm me,” Mo Changyou explained, a spark of intelligence in his eyes.

The Heavenly Book Monarch was once hailed as the wisest being in the entire Heavenly Martial Divine State, second only to another great emperor.

Mo Changyou’s brief comment caused Mo Lianshen’s smile to stiffen.

Could such words really come from a sixteen-year-old?

Mo Changyou’s statement led Mo Lianshen to wonder if the boy had been taken over by an ancient demon in disguise.

“Such a mature perspective at your age is indeed rare,” Mo Lianshen conceded, shaking his head. If an ancient demon had taken over Mo Changyou’s body, Mo Yanglin would likely have been killed with soul power after the provocation, without the need for any further discussion with Mo Lianshen.

“However, the reason I summoned you today is to discuss the upcoming Family Competition. With just over a month until it starts, you must participate and secure a place in the top ten. Do you think you can achieve that?” Mo Lianshen inquired.

“That won’t be difficult. I would, however, like a map of the surrounding area within a hundred thousand miles. Can you arrange that?” Mo Changyou replied with a smile.

Mo Lianshen gazed at Mo Changyou for a moment before bursting into hearty laughter.

“It’s a deal!”

Mo Lianshen’s confidence in Mo Changyou’s ability to place in the top ten at the Family Competition stemmed from Mo Yangning’s previous defeat at his hands. Given the current state of the Mo family, where most young cultivators only possess the Level 6 or 7 Energy Condensation, Mo Changyou stood a good chance of making it into the top ranks.

Mo Changyou had an inkling as to why Mo Lianshen insisted he secure a top ten ranking. It boiled down to Mo Yanglin wielding an excessive amount of power within the Mo family. Previously, with Mo Feng in a state of despair and Mo Changyou showing no particular talent, Mo Lianshen hadn’t been concerned.

Now, with a top-tier genius like Mo Changyou emerging as a direct descendant, it was inconceivable for Mo Lianshen to allow the Third Elder, a mere collateral relative, to usurp the Mo family’s authority. The true lineage of the Mo family was carried by Mo Feng, Mo Lianshen, and Mo Changyou. The other seven elders were considered part of a newer direct line, their fathers having been side branches in the family’s past.

The Third Elder’s ambitions knew no bounds. Should he gain full control over the family competition, the Mo family’s leadership would undoubtedly lean entirely in his favor. Both Mo Changyou and Mo Lianshen were aware of this delicate situation, yet neither chose to openly acknowledge it.

Mo Changyou’s desire for a map stemmed from his need to ascertain his current location. “I hope I’m not in the South Wasteland,” he murmured to himself. Among the Eight Wastelands, the South Wasteland was notorious for its chaos. With the fall of the Emperors, the Forbidden Zones within it had become even more lawless and uncontrollable.

Lost in thought, Mo Changyou was unaware that Mo Yangning had regained consciousness and was furiously bellowing. “Mo Changyou, you will not meet a peaceful end!” Mo Yangning seethed, glaring at his severed arms, his eyes streaked with blood and brimming with unyielding murderous intent. “Father, brother, hand me that item. I want to lay a personal ambush for him!” he demanded, as the fury within him surged through his being.
