Chapter 52: Xu Chao’s Regret

Watching the Qin family’s experts getting closer and closer outside the window, Xu Chao’s body trembled. He gritted his teeth and activated his shadow, transforming it into a spirit form and heading outside. 

His shadow concealed itself in the void, temporarily evading detection by the Qin family’s experts.

But what good would that do? His main body was still in the room. No matter how far his spirit shadow fled, if his main body was killed, he would die too!

Xu Chao was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan. He saw that the Qin family’s experts had surrounded him from all directions, sealing off any escape route. 

The experts were searching each house methodically. Although they hadn’t reached his community yet, it was only a matter of time.

As the expert lowered his guard, Xu Chao suddenly struck. His shadow condensed into a solid form, and his right hand transformed into a blade, aiming for the expert’s heart from behind. 

The attack was so fast that it caused a sonic boom, distorting the air slightly.

The Qin family expert was startled and disappeared in an instant, reappearing ten meters away, causing Xu Chao’s full-force strike to miss. “He’s here!” 

The expert initially felt a bit of fear but quickly regained composure and mocked Xu Chao, shouting loudly.

Xu Chao’s expression turned grim. He hadn’t expected his hidden, lethal strike to miss entirely. He had hoped to use his shadow’s ability to infinitely regenerate to sneak attack and eliminate these Qin family experts one by one. 

But he had forgotten one crucial thing—he lacked the strength. These experts of the Qin family were well-nourished by the support of tens of thousands of soldiers and millions of people, with ample energy crystals for cultivation. 

Each Qin family Evolver was a formidable expert in the current apocalypse. Xu Chao’s talent was indeed extraordinary, but he had hardly trained, spending most of his time indulging in women. 

His strength was no different from that of a newly awakened Evolver.

The Qin family expert sneered and charged forward, lightning flickering around his body, and punched towards Xu Chao. With this punch, blue lightning burst forth, striking towards Xu Chao’s shadow like a thunder dragon. 

Xu Chao roared, his shadow dissipating into a black mist, entangling with the expert. They exchanged several blows, ending in a stalemate.

Xu Chao felt a wave of disappointment and disbelief. After awakening his talent, he believed himself to be invincible. Yet, he was evenly matched with a random Qin family expert? 

Realizing that more Qin family experts were closing in, Xu Chao gritted his teeth and transformed into a black light, attempting to flee. 

But to Xu Chao’s despair, the Qin family experts were unfazed, continuing their search for his main body. Desperately, Xu Chao abandoned his shadow and returned his consciousness to his main body in the room. 

His face was ashen, drenched in sweat, as he saw the Qin family experts nearing his community. At most, they would reach his home in two hours. 

Xu Chao was panicking, sweating profusely, his mind a mess, on the verge of tears. He had only one thought: What should he do? What should he do?! 

It felt like a bottomless abyss lay before him, and he could only march forward, helpless to stop himself from falling. He couldn’t prevent this nightmare from unfolding. The sense of suffocation was overwhelming.

Although he was safe for now, this safety would only last two more hours. He watched the clock in the living room, its hands ticking. Each tick was a countdown to his death. He knew Qin Jun would not spare him.

At this moment, Zhou Lan emerged from another room, asking, “What’s wrong?” 

As an ordinary person, her perception was far weaker than Xu Chao’s, and she hadn’t sensed anything amiss. Xu Chao looked at Zhou Lan, the first woman he had been with, and a wave of regret surged in his heart.

If he hadn’t spent all those days indulging in Zhou Lan and had instead focused on training, his shadow would have evolved by now. Then, his shadow and main body could merge, making him immortal. 

His shadow was so close to evolving, just a bit more! But he always thought there was no rush, wanting to enjoy life first. Yet, this small delay had sealed his fate.

Xu Chao’s eyes turned red, filled with deep regret.
