Chapter 46
Chapter 46: Monkeys
“Shhh... Be still Robus, be still...” Blake half whispered.
“rr-” Robus wanted to reply, but Blake patted his shoulders and hushed him again.
“Don’t say anything yet, your voice is way too loud even if you try to whisper.” Blake, who was still sitting on top of Robus’ shoulders said.
The two of them were currently hiding behind a thick bush and a large tree.
With Robu’s huge stature, he was forced to literally crawl on the ground since his body which was half the height of the trees around him were still very noticeable if he didn’t put his limbs sprawled on the ground.
The two of them didn’t usually hide from anything other than when they spotted a strong creature like the komodo dragon or the huge crow as they welcomed every demonic beast that they met along the way with a fight.
However, despite there weren’t any demonic beasts at the komodo dragon’s level, they still hid behind a bush for a single reason.
.....
And that was to see the specific beast that had caught Robus’ and Blake’s interest.
The same with Robus and Blake, the beasts that they were currently eyeing right now also had 2 arms and 2 legs.
And although they still use their arms somewhat to support their body, they still mainly use their legs to stand, and were capable of using solely their feet to keep their balance.
But between Blake and Robus, those creatures were more similar to the latter than the former because of the fur that was covering their whole body except for the front of their faces.
And if not for the noticeably long tail on their backside, they would definitely be mistaken as a smaller version of Robus.
Yes, the creatures that Blake and Robus were currently observing right now were none other than the monkeys.
Or at least, the demonic beast equivalent of monkeys.
Different from the tiny earth monkeys that were usually the size of a human’s baby, the monkeys that the two were currently observing were the size of an orangutan, or to put it in human terms, they were the size of the average early teenage years human.
Their furs were relatively brown throughout their whole body and their nails were seemingly longer and stronger than the monkeys that Blake remembered.
But that was it, despite the slightly different appearance, Blake couldn’t be mistaken as them being monkeys.
And the reason that Robus and Blake were hiding was none other than because Blake was slightly surprised that monkeys really did exist in the forest.
It wasn’t surprising at all, seeing monkeys inside a forest with huge trees filled with fruits and plants, but remembering his totally made-up ramblings back then to make Robus agree to make a covenant with him by insulting him to be a monkey, made Blake thought whether the monkeys in the demon realm were really cowards and weak as he said.
Hence why he decided to spend some time observing them first before, of course, fighting them since Robus was already very eager to fight those monkeys that were supposed to be the inferior version of himself – according to Blake that is.
‘There are 4 of them together, which means they also live in groups, the same as the monkeys back on earth...’
‘Their elements were unknown, but I’m sure that they’ve already awakened their bloodline power since they were living this deep inside the forest. I need to watch out for that.’
‘Even with their bigger bodies here compared to their earth counterparts, they were still able to move very agilely, even faster than me possibly... But their speed wasn’t anything too special, my spells should still be able to hit them.’
‘But that wasn’t necessarily true since I haven’t seen them move at full speed yet... I need to be more -‘
“Rrr”
Blake’s thought was suddenly cut off as he heard Robus calling out to him.
“Wait a little Robus, I just want to make sure that we can take on four of them at the same time.”
“rrrr...”
“No, it’s not because I’m afraid, but -”
“Rrr”
“But -”
“rr”
“Alright, alright... Let’s do this...”
Blake was always careful when meeting new creatures, especially when the monkeys didn’t look as weak as the other creatures that they have met along their journey so far.
And although Blake was confident with his own ability, he still needed to make sure twice that he would be able to successfully pull off whatever he decided to do, or at least he would have a high chance of doing it, just like when he decided to split up with Robus and fought the huge crow alone.
But with some convincing and added with some insults, Robus was finally able to make Blake stop worrying and start doing instead.
It usually takes more than a few insults here and there for Robus to convince Blake, but since Blake didn’t feel any danger from the four monkeys, Blake decided to put aside his worry and just fully trust in Robus and his strength this time.
“3... 2... 1... Go!”
After fighting together for quite some time, Robus and Blake already had their own strategy instead of just blindly charging forward.
It wasn’t anything fancy since anything complicated would trouble the gorilla, in fact, it was just a common combination that was used in most RPG games back on earth.
Tankers in front, damage dealers at the back. That was the exact strategy that the two of them used every time they fought their enemies.
The stronger ones, that is. If it was only the low-leveled boars or wolves, then Blake alone or Robus alone was enough to solo the whole group.
But since they had traveled quite far away into the forest and the fact that the demonic beasts that the two of them met in the deeper parts of the forest were only getting stronger, Blake decided to go with that basic tanker and damage dealer formation.
However, there’s a slight modification in that strategy as Blake wasn’t really a glass cannon that couldn’t keep himself safe.
Instead of hiding behind Robus’ humongous body and throwing spells every once in a while when he got the chance, the moment Robus made his presence clear by jumping straight in front of the monkeys and roared, Blake had already made his way and circled around the side of the monkeys, ready to launch his spells and bombard the monkeys with his hundreds of darkness tendrils.
Blake was ready to help Robus intercept the monkeys’ attacks and possibly slip in a couple of marking spells here and there since that was usually the scenario when a group of creatures suddenly saw a towering gorilla appear right in front of them.
But little did Blake expect that instead of throwing their attacks or activating their bloodline power after they heard Robus’ roar, the moment they saw the huge gorilla appear in front of them, the monkeys didn’t even have a shred of hesitation as they turned their tails and started running away to the complete opposite direction of where Robus had come from.
‘...’
‘Well, at least it turns out that I wasn’t wrong when I say they were cowards...’
