Demon King Ascension System

Chapter 140

140 Learning More About the Humanoid Demons (3)

After making a full round on the edge of the forest, Blake had finally learned quite a few things about the humanoid demons’ base. And some of that information was the one that he and Robus needed for their plan to get as many souls as possible.

Blake had found out that despite the humanoid demons in the base all flocked together and there was almost no chance for him to be able to sneak in and kill a few of them without getting caught, there were still ways for him to get the souls.

They indeed grouped up together when they were still inside the base or on the shore where literally hundreds of them were working side by side.

But when it comes to hunting for food, chopping wood, or gathering other materials in the local areas, the humanoid demons worked in smaller groups that weren’t impossible for Blake to deal with in a quick manner.

However, even after knowing these, Blake didn’t go back to Robus right away as there was still something that he wanted to test out first.

The forest that he and Robus were currently hiding in was quite a sizable one that it took him about slightly more than one and a half hours to go from one end to the other by walking.

It wasn’t a tiny forest, but it was very small compared to the island that they had been on. But still, it still provides enough coverage for him and Robus to be able to maneuver quite freely.

So Blake then went to the other edge of the forest, the complete opposite side of where Robus was currently in and waited patiently for one of the teams of humanoid demons to come near him.

The opposite end of the forest, different from the one that Robus was currently in, was located far away from the base of the humanoid demons.

.....

And it would take the humanoid demons more than 15 minutes if they ran from the base to Blake’s current location.

The reason why he traveled this far away and patiently waited for the scarce humanoid demon hunting teams was because he had something that he needed to make sure of that would determine his and Robus’ next course of action.

Blake very patiently waited for about another half an hour before he finally saw his targets.

Just like the usual team of humanoid demons, there were five of them in a single group.

However, Blake noticed that different from the teams that he saw back on the island, this team all have visible unique physical traits on their body, and none of them had the characteristically colorful skin that the humanoid demon mages had.

Knowing that, Blake heaved a slight sigh of relief as it meant that his test would run more smoothly without having to watch out for the humanoid demon mages and their spells that were mostly unknown to him.

Blake then repositioned himself so that the humanoid demons’ path would eventually cross with his current location and he started drawing rune formations on the ground.

Then after making a line of nether that would enable him to activate those runes formations from a distance, Blake hid behind one of the trees with the thickest trunk and waited for the five humanoid demons to arrive.

Just like before when he first met with the brownish demon and his entourage, Blake could hear several short words of commands when the group of humanoid demons arrived.

“Noghthing hghere, eitghher. Leght’s moghve oghn,” One of the humanoid demons said, seemingly finding it hard to find any hunts today.

It was still needed for the humanoid demons in this realm to eat food, just like the demonic beasts.

Although eating food won’t get their bodies stronger like eating souls, they couldn’t find souls to eat every day, and their bodies needed some kind of fuel to keep themselves from getting malnourished and weakened like the scrawny demons that Blake had fought earlier.

And that was also the reason why not a lot of them were able to descend to the deeper realm even after a dozen years of living in the first realm. They were simply not good enough to fight and kill other demons, or they simply weren’t lucky to find more demons to eat their souls.

After finding nothing in the area, the group of humanoid demons decided to continue walking forward into the forest.

But little did they know that after just walking for another 10 seconds, all five of them were currently standing before 5 rune formations, the same number as them.

And before they could notice the demonic runes written on the ground, from behind one of the trees around the area, nether began pouring into the five rune formations at the same time, making them glow and catching the five humanoid demons’ attention.

If the group of humanoid demons that were sent to the islands or on the expedition in front of the main continent had seen glowing demonic runes suddenly appear in front of them, then all of them would have been pushing their feet against the ground to run away from their current position without a shred of hesitation in their hearts and minds.

However, different from those teams that had rich battle experience and constantly fought enemies that were not weak, the hunting team that had walked straight into Blake’s trap was not those kinds of humanoid demons.

Their daily activities were as simple as hunting for food for the base. And with the strong demons being taken care of by the stronger teams, their hunt would not be against strong demons that would put all of their lives at risk.

Moreover, they didn’t have to fight any other humanoid demons outside of their group since all of the humanoid demons in the area had been forced to either join the base or become food for the base.

So when faced with a situation that they had never been in, all five of them were hesitating and didn’t know what to do other than being frozen in place for 1 whole second. Which was more than enough time for Blake’s spell to manifest itself.

The 5 rune formations that he drew were Vera’s improved version of the darkness-binding spell. Where the spells had the ability to automatically determine a creature’s position without the caster having to aim them.

And when all five were activated at the same time, each of them respectively searched for one different target from the others before manifesting themselves.

With a full second to spare, the darkness tendrils manifested themselves under each of the five humanoid demons and started latching themselves onto the humanoid demons’ bodies.

Dozens of darkness tendrils made their way onto each of the humanoid demons, pulling their hands and feet together and securing their body to the ground.

When the spells stopped manifesting, not one of the five humanoid demons had stayed standing on their feet.

All of them tried to break free and save themselves. But just like usual, the darkness tendrils held tight onto their bodies and became tighter the moment the creatures trapped inside tried to fight back.

And Blake, who had been patiently waiting for them to get trapped, didn’t do anything when the 5 humanoid demons had been successfully caught by the darkness tendrils.

He didn’t send a darkness bullet to their heads nor did he do anything else to them.

He just lets them stay struggling on the ground while he himself stays behind the tree trunk as if he was waiting for something to happen.
