Chapter 17: Necromancer

Chapter 17: Necromancer

'fuc... '

The bullets were already fired, and I was still in the middle of finishing my word...

But that didn't stop me from seeing my life ending if I didn't do something... But how they say that at the last moment, time slows down, and that's exactly what was happening.

As time seems to slow down, I can see the trajectory of the bullet... and with just a mere moment away from me, somehow I managed to cast my shield in time. A shield was flung between us, protecting me from my impending doom, but the horror didn't end there.

Fuck!

The sheer force coming from hitting the shield is like getting hit with a massive hammer all over my body.

As the seconds passed, the shield started to give up, and to make it worse I didn't hear any signal of them stopping anytime soon..

'Fuck, fuck, fuck... I cursed my luck. My luck was getting cursed without any fault, as this isn't entirely my luck's fault; I was just getting high on my power, And with all my proud pride, this was bound to happen someday.

A moment before the shield was about to be destroyed, I dispelled the spell and ducked to the side of the door... but I didn't leave unscathed, as in that short time frame, at least ten bullets hit me.

Thank God, they only managed to hit me and not penetrate deep enough to do any serious damage. I began waiting for them to stop firing and let them taste the taste of their own medicine

After a minute of continuous firing, it finally stopped. Giving Dhruv some room to breathe.

But the soldiers weren't in the mood to give him the time he needed to catch his breath.

As they stop firing and look at the door—or where it was supposed to be— but all they can see is smoke and dust covering it, hindering their vision.

"Hey, you, go and check," one of the officers ordered, while pushing the soldier toward the door.

The soldier looked into his eyes, indicating that he was too afraid to go to meet the monster, but the officer signaled him to go nonetheless.

With a sigh! The soldier picked up his knife and slowly moved toward the door.. Where there was nothing but darkness and the smell of burned wood.

With a strong resolve, he enters the darkness and...

"Where had he gone?"

The officer asked in surprise, as from his perspective, after moving beyond the door frame, the soldier gets devoured by the darkness of the hallway.

'How is this possible? At least some noise would have come if they had been fought.'

but with no sound, no signal, nothing... They assumed the worst and planned to advance together, as that would be the safest option... With the officer left behind to command then.. But everyone knows that was nothing but an excuse.

As they began moving and reached the door frame, they had to thin out as the space for the door was narrow, and only one or two could pass it simultaneously.

One by one, they all started passing the door... and from the looks of it, they all began to be consumed by the darkness..

With no man left except for himself and the warden... He looked at the napping warden like there was nothing going on; he knew he had no other choice but to go.

So he slowly started moving towards the hallway..

"Is anyone here?" he shouted, expecting an answer, but all he heard was his voice echo through the hall. He looked at the hall and shuddered.

Soon, the devil answered his call.. As a hand comes from the left, holding tight around his neck, before he can even utter a single word, it crushes it, killing the last human alive in this prison.

Dhruv slowly began moving in the office room, where he saw a rather normal man napping. From the looks of it, the man was in his thirties, wearing a simple black shirt and formal black pants. He couldn't see the man's facial features as he was laying over the desk. He didn't let this normality deceive him, as he knew there was nothing about him that was normal.

Looking at the men, Dhruv could clearly feel the aura of death coming from him.. Even more potent than his own, despite the fact that he had killed hundreds of men on his own. Somehow controlling his instincts that were telling him that this man was no good and he should leave as soon as possible.

He didn't know why his instincts were so strange today, as nothing could kill him—nothing human at least—and he was sure of it after facing so many life and death situations, but still with a cautious nature, he approached him.

Reaching his preferred range for shooting arrows, he raises his hand to cast the spell, aiming for his head. Wanting to finish this as soon as possible, he shoots the arrow.

Clang!

But to his surprise, the arrow bounced off his head, leaving only scratch marks.

Upon seeing this, Dhruv finally understood why his instincts were screaming at him to run away. Because the man in front of him was either a chosen one; like him,who happened to have been in contact with a gate, or he knew how to earn coins and use them. But he doubts his latter choice, as for him to reach this level of toughness, he has to kill a lot of men and invest all his coins in stamina.

And If the former was not the case, then he was even more dangerous because he could have access to an uncommon level class, which would make the whole thing more complicated.

With an arrow to his head, the man finally wakes up from his nap and looks at Dhruv with an evaluating gaze... With his gaze upon him, Dhruv's whole being shudders in fear, and he regrets not listening to his instinct.

'Fuck, fuck..'

"So, you must be the monster they were all talking about. Nice to make your acquaintance, mister... uhh! What was your name? Stop, don't tell me.. It was something related to stars and the north. Ohh! Yes, it is Dhruv.

Nice to meet you, Dhruv," he said with a smiley face.

I didn't reply, or better, I couldn't reply, as I was so angry at his funny remark that I could swear I was on the verge of losing my mind... But maybe that was this bastard's plan all along, so I controlled my anger.

"Ohh! You must be mad about that whole prison bullying thing. and you have the right to be mad at me, but what can I do? I mean, a man has to provide for his family one way or another, right? After all, you yourself are a family man... ohh! Sorry, were a family men.

My deep condolences to you... Soo, What do I owe the pleasure for you to visit me at this hour as this time isn't exactly for meeting?"

"I think you know why I am here, do you not?" I said, practically gritting my teeth.

"If it is about revenge, then so be it. I think I can entertain you for a while," he said while lifting his hand, showing that he was about to cast a spell.. A very big spell, with the amount of mana I sense.

'Why am I such a stupid person?'

I realize the reason behind all his talk. He was wasting all my time talking... but he himself was preparing his spell. But still another question appears as why would he wait until i come in the room? He could have prepared it when I was fighting, as that would have been more favorable for him than starting to prepare after my entry.

That's when a sudden realization struck me...

At the very moment he cast the spell, a black smoke released from his hand and began moving in the direction of the hallway where the dead bodies were.

And my assumption was right, as he is a.... Necromancer.
