Chapter 40
C40 – The Celebration Party (1)
Pei Yu was blissfully unaware that he had become the city’s most wanted.
To him, the Grandmaster was beyond reproach. If that kid had crossed him, Pei Yu thought nothing of ending him with a single slap.
He was utterly unfazed, oblivious to the fact that the Thunderclap Martial Club had issued a warrant for his arrest.
His priorities were his cultivation and his sister’s well-being.
Following his morning exercises, Pei Yu noticed a growing ferocity in his strength.
He was confident that his combat value had significantly increased, though he hadn’t yet measured the extent of the improvement. He was certain, however, that it wouldn’t be insignificant.
As he stepped out of the shower, his phone began to ring. “Hey, Qian, what’s going on?”
“I’ll definitely be at the Super Martial Club’s annual celebration.”
“Great, I’m looking forward to seeing you tonight. Just call me when you get there.”
“Will do!”
Qian Wenwei ended the call with Pei Yu in a courteous manner. Pei Yu chuckled and nodded in acknowledgment.
He reflected on how Qian Wenwei was really pulling out all the stops to court him, offering not just financial support but also an invitation to be a special guest at the Super Martial Club’s anniversary event.
The gesture left Pei Yu feeling somewhat uneasy. Accepting such generosity without joining the club seemed almost improper to him.
“Oh right, today’s the day Pei Yuner gets discharged from the hospital. I nearly forgot to pick her up.”
After his shower, Pei Yu drove to the hospital to collect Pei Yuner.
A few days of rest had done her well; Pei Yuner was fully recovered, brimming with energy and bouncing with vitality.
“Bro, when did you get a car?”
Pei Yuner asked with wide eyes from the passenger seat.
“I borrowed it from a friend.”
“Borrowed it?” Pei Yuner sounded skeptical, finding it hard to believe.
Seeing his sister’s half-convinced expression, Pei Yu asked, “What, you don’t believe me?”
“No, it’s nothing,” she replied with a sweet smile, though she remembered her brother never seemed to have many friends.
Pei Yuner had always felt a bit guilty about her brother’s past reputation, worrying she had been a burden to Pei Yu.
Lately, her brother had been acting in ways that puzzled her; he seemed to have changed quite a bit. Yet, she refrained from questioning him.
“Get ready, I’m taking you to a party tonight where you can meet a friend of mine.”
“Bro, really?”
“Of course. Don’t you want to go?”
Lin Xiu affectionately ruffled Pei Yuner’s hair and said, “If you’re not up for it, I can always cancel.”
“I’d love to! I’m eager to meet your friends too.”
Pei Yuner’s smile was so endearing it nearly melted Pei Yu’s heart.
By eight o’clock that evening, the moon shone brightly in a sparsely starred sky. The Super Martial Club’s plaza was alive with commotion.
It was the Super Martial Club’s 30th-anniversary celebration, and they had invited a host of socialites and influential families. Essentially, anyone with a modicum of status in N City had made the guest list.
As dusk settled, the grand plaza’s banquet tables were thronged with the elite. Upon arrival at the entrance, Pei Yu was asked to present his invitation.
“Brother, do you have your invitation? Should we ask your friend to come get us?” Pei Yuner’s voice quivered slightly upon realizing they were at the Super Martial Club. “This isn’t exactly a place for ordinary folks like us to just stroll into.”
“No need,” Pei Yu replied with a smile, rolling down the window before dialing a number.
The guard gave Pei Yu a once-over, finding him vaguely familiar. However, seeing the modest car, he dismissed any flicker of recognition. To him, anyone in such a vehicle was just another guest, unworthy of special treatment. Tapping on the car door, he demanded, “Hey, show me your invitation letter.”
“I don’t have one,” Pei Yu replied, still on the phone.
“No invitation? Then you have no business here. Please leave; this isn’t a place for you.”
“Just take the call first.”
The guard, intent on sending them away, hesitated when Pei Yu offered the phone. After a brief pause, he took the call.
“Hey, who are you?”
In an instant, the security guard’s face went rigid, his hat nearly tumbling off his head.
