Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog

Kai's thoughts were distracted from Luke a bit, and he thought of a way he could be remembered by the Shenyang Sharks.

In his mind, there could only be two ways for that to happen.

He could do something so bad that they'll remember him in a negative light, or he could do something to impress them.

Kai could already think of plenty of ways for them to remember him negatively.

He could make a ruckus in the court and act cocky to the point that they would be fired up.

However, he inferred that wouldn't be the best way.

Just then, a loud sound was heard in the gym, causing Kai to focus his gaze on the court.

It turns out that Zeke was dribbling the ball on the floor with great strength.

He did some fancy moves, moving at lightning speed like his name suggested.

After a while, he finally stopped dribbling and held the ball in between his arm and side.

"Now that I have your attention," he started off. "We'll be conducting a question-and-answer session. Shoot your questions. We'll only answer five of them," he said.

Multiple hands shot up in the air, with Lina even standing to capture their attention.

That seemed to do the trick as Zeke called for her.

"To the pretty girl on Shizi's side," he said. "What question do you have for us?"

Lina's cheeks reddened from the compliment as she asked the question.

Kai's eyes were focused on her. However, the fact that everyone was gazing at her also distracted him.

It seemed like every guy wanted to get to know her!

Kai clicked his tongue and shook his head.

"Well, I just want to ask some advice. I am currently the manager of my team," she started off.

"Must be nice," the other teams said, knowing they didn't have a pretty manager.

"We are currently lacking players in rotation. Currently, we only have nine members with us, and three of them aren't ready to play in real games yet," she bluntly said.

The benchwarmers turned to each other with amused smiles, knowing Lina was talking about them.

"How do you think we can overcome this?" she asked.

Zeke turned to his teammates. Their shooting guard, Hong, cleared his throat and answered the question.

"I believe this is the best answer—recruit more members," he said.

Lina pursed her lips, already aware of the answer. However, it was difficult to recruit good members into their team.

"However, in the case that it wouldn't be possible, training the current members to be better is also plausible. Maybe even building the endurance of the starting players would help your team."

Lina nodded in agreement, jotting down his answer.

"Any other questions?" Zeke asked.

Someone from the Longyu Dragons was called.

"Ah, this team is famous," Hong smirked. "I watched some of your games last year in Beijing. It was quite enjoyable."

"Thank you," Riley said. "Here's my question—how do we deal with unexpected players? What do we do if we cannot predict their plays?" he asked, subtly turning to the Shizi Dogs right after.

Zeke smirked. "Let me answer that one."

"I believe that those kinds of players are the most burdensome to play with," he continued.

Kai raised his eyebrows, curious about his reasoning.

"What's worse than playing with a player that has the best foundational skills is a player with unexpected ones. It's hard to gauge their real talent—if they're plain stupid or if they're actually black holes who have unending talents."

"However, one thing's for sure—we're all humans. Humans are bound to make mistakes," he said. "Besides, you wouldn't have to worry too much about it in the high school league. I think you guys should take it easy."

"Compared to the national league and the Olympics, your games are honestly no match. It's a piece of cake."n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

"We bet with our life on the line most of the time while you guys are doing this for mere trophies. If you really want to go pro, then I suggest applying to training camps for national teams."

Kai frowned as soon as Zeke stopped talking.

He knew that Zeke didn't have the best personality based on what he portrayed in the media, but Kai was surprised that he subtly insinuated that the high school league was easy in front of literal high school players.

The question-and-answer portion continued, with more than a third of the high school players still wanting to get picked to ask their questions.

Kai, on the other hand, remained still, his mind running with a thousand thoughts.

Then, as the fourth question was answered, he felt like he had an epiphany.

"Last question," Zeke said, looking around the room as excited players desperately raised their hands in hopes of getting picked.

Kai smirked, standing from his seat, capturing the attention of the professional team and the high school players alike.

"Well, that student looks like he has a good height and body," they muttered, agreeing that Kai looked like a basketball player through and through.

"I have a suggestion," Kai said, taking them by surprise.

He hadn't been called yet, but he had already spoken.

Zeke smirked, crossing his arms in front of his chest.

"Well, it seems like we have someone who has guts here," he said, looking Kai in the eyes.

"And what was that? A suggestion?" Zeke chuckled.

"Go ahead," he gestured. "Tell us what suggestion you have."

Kai smirked, mirroring his expression, causing Zeke to frown a little bit.

"First of all, I would like to thank you for allowing us to come here and watch how you practice," he started off.

"It's an honor," he continued.

"However, since you believe that the high school league is a piece of cake. I'm suggesting that we prove your claims wrong."

Zeke's frown deepened.

"What do you mean by that?" he asked.

"Let's have a practice game," Kai confidently suggested.

"The Shenyang Sharks vs. us, high school basketball players."

Kai continued to smirk.

'Let's see if they'll remember me,' he thought.

He couldn't quite choose whether he wanted to be remembered negatively or positively.

So, why not both?
