Chapter 29
I had enough food for an entire week if I would manage it correctly, so I decided to take it easy. I had some thoughts that maybe by the end of this period I should use the device again to buy as much as I could, to maximize that one crystal I got from my friends. Friends, a word that I never thought I was gonna use towards people in this place. In the end, I decided to not go. Nacho probably wouldn't let me use it anyway.
My condition was terrible, and I was constantly in pain, but even though I decided to indulge myself in something all of us stopped doing very early - the exploration of the city. Crystals and survival took all of our focus, but here in this city, even more secrets could be hidden.
I took the backpack filled with food for an entire day and departed. Now, when I felt no rush, I started to notice things, that I haven't before. The blue sky, and puffy clouds. It was so pretty. Everlasting summer day. Hot, with nice cold winds to cool you down. Whether that could be deemed as perfect by many.
I wandered for hours, without any rush. Aiming for the opposite side to the gate. The architecture didn't change at all and became boring after a while. Everything looked the same. Like a copy and paste. Meaningless background. I wondered why. I had so many questions.
Then I arrived at my destination. Something I partially expected, but also not. A second gate. This one was different though. The one leading to the goblin forest could be described as plain. There were no decorations, reliefs, or sculptures in any part of it. A plain brick gate. But this, the second one, had some pattern above the entrance. After a closer inspection, I could even consider it as writing, in a language I didn't know. The letters were strange. Not something I have ever seen. Above it, there was a relief. An island of some kind.
My brain quickly jumped to conclusions. This gate was leading to another city, on an island, and all the answers were there. I went through and walked for several minutes hoping I'm gonna see something on the horizon, but all I saw was jagged rocks, like claws, tearing the earth apart in the quest for reaching the sky. Some of them were small, but others very big. At least a couple of meters high. There were also crevasses and chasms. It looked like some kind of giant released his anger on this place. Complete wasteland with no life. I knew something happened there. Maybe this was an explanation to why the city was so empty.
I decided to return with thoughts that I'm certainly gonna come back, and explore this land someday.
When I returned it was already grey outside. I made a stop to eat and also strolled a bit around because I got lost. You have to know, that there was no main, straight street. Sometimes the path was clear, but other times you had no idea where to go. A complete mess of cobblestone alleys, and ruins. Like whoever made this city didn't think it through.
I ate again, after returning. My body felt exhausted. Even though I was happy about my little exploration, since I found new clues.
Day ended with 1259 points on my account.
