Chapter 270 - Commotion On The Tents
After preparing everything, Ban proceeded to cook the meat with the broth recipe he received from the System.
He was once again astounded by the level of contents contained inside the diary of the Ancient Summoner.
As he cooked the meat, Eva who was still on his head was now wide awake. She no longer felt sleepy and was now back to her normal state. She alertly surveyed his surroundings, using the sensor from time to time. However, she was later reminded by Ban that she didn't have to do so as Rila was there, and based on her and her Summon's posture, it was clear that she was also alert and continuously monitored their surroundings.
In this wild environment, being alert and cautious was the most important thing to do. You will never know when an enemy or Beast pounces as the environment allows them to hide well. In fact, Adventurers or Summoner's like Ban had it easy due to their Summon or them having the necessary reconnaissance skills that allows them to detect enemies quite easily.
Adventurers like Rila and the others could only rely on their ability and past experiences to determine if there was any enemy around them. Some of them might install traps or scatter some powder like the Beast Repelling Powder to drive away the wandering Beasts that might disturbed them during their rest.
In fact, while out hunting earlier, Rila had already set up some minor traps that, if triggered, would allow them to know that an enemy or Beast was around. That was why she always perked up her ears, along with her Summon so that if any traps were triggered they would immediately hear it.
Ban was also aware of this as he heard Rila setting up one. The trap was simple, it just needed some rope, twigs and some leaves. The rope was tied to a branch of the tree and then to the trap below it, if anyone stepped on the trap, then the rope would be released making the branch tied to it flip back to where it belonged along with the leaves causing them to cause a rustle.
That kind of trap wasn't complex and with knowledge contained in the Book of Techniques provided by the System also helped Ban to understand the mechanism trap more easily. Depending on the situation, he might be able to use these traps in the future.
After about an hour, the meat of the Beast has already started to soften. The pot has already been boiling for over an hour and the aroma of the meat was already starting to seep out of the lid. At this point, Ban knew that it was already the time to add the supplementary ingredients to enrich the broth's flavor even more.
The aroma seeped out as the broth boiled inside the pot. The smell of the broth traveled and gradually came towards Rila and the others. Their nose twitched slightly as they smelled the delicious aroma.
The disciple of Yakob also smelled the broth from afar but he did not dare to request a share. He was especially reminded that he should not offend the other party as the life of the Young Miss and his two brothers were on the line.
He was also reminded by Yakob that even if the two of them choose to leave, he should not needlessly try to hold them down. It was because at this point, they don't have the upper ground of the situation. No matter what they do by force, they would be wrong. And even if for instance that they managed to hold them down, they would still need to think of possible retaliation from the other party's group.
All in all, they are on the mercy of Ban and Rila.
He could only sigh and then focused his attention again on the food that he was cooking. He sighed yet again as the food he was cooking was a far cry from even just the aroma of the food that Ban was cooking.
He smiled wryly as he reached out towards the ladle to stir the food he was cooking. However, before he could do so, he was suddenly startled by a sudden commotion inside the tent.
"Young Miss!" He exclaimed in horror as he immediately ran towards the middle tent. It was where the commotion originated from and it was also the tent of the Young Miss.
He only hesitated for a moment before he tore open the tent's door forcefully. After that, what he saw almost made him shit his pants.
At this point, Ban and Rila had already noticed the commotion as well. Although they have no intention of being nosy, they understand that Yakob has more or less entrusted the Young Miss and the others to the two of them.
Although they also have no reason to comply, because Ban still needed them for his real intention here, he could not afford to lose their trust. And besides, even without those reasons, Ban would still help, just for the sake of knowing them.
They aren't bad guys anyways. At least, that's how he sees them.
The two of them hurriedly ran towards the tent. The ostrich was left behind to guard the food that Ban was cooking that was now almost ready.
As they ran, Ban noticed that the other tent was now also shaking madly from the corner of his eyes. Seeing that, he already has a vague idea of what was going on.
Arriving in front of the door, Ban saw the look of horror plastered on the face of Yakob's disciple. If he recalled correctly, the name of this man should be Raul.
Raul is a middle-age man, around 35 years old. He has black hair and masculine body. He was shorter than Ban standing at 170 cm. He was wearing an adventurer shirt and at the tip of the sleeve, Ban noticed a coiled green snake that flickering its tongue now and then.
"What happened?"
Ban ignored Raul's summon for now and decided to ask what had happened, although he already had an inkling of what it was.
