Chapter 138: Wielder of the Green Flames II
Chapter 138: Wielder of the Green Flames II
"Big bro! Big sis! Come on hurry up!" Eve ran up a flight of stairs. Seemingly floating with how light she moved. Impressing even Alice who watched the little girl.
"Since when did she place so much respect in addressing us?" Alice commented.
"Since this morning actually. She needs the money in our pockets after all." Sol commented.
"Right, that little brat sure knows how to squeeze our salaries out of us huh?"
"I don't mind actually. You can go somewhere else if you want."
"What? Are you crazy? I gotta make sure that Eve is safe."
Alice was trying to hide it but, she actually liked being referred to as a big sister. She never had any siblings of her own. Plus, Eve was a type of girl who resembled how nimble footed she was. With the only difference being, Eve was never trained and scouted by the league of thieves.
"Eve be careful honey!'
"Now you sound like Miss Olivia."
"Hey we're completely different okay? First of all I'm only doing this out of my heart's benevolence."
"Sure you are."
Sol figured that he should spend the day with the Bloodbournes. With the recent achievement, there was no need to rush, nor to aim for any other achievement. They've done enough for the Void at that point and, he wasn't planing to work himself to death until he was needed.
Alice, as always, joined in on this. For some reason she wasn't feeling like fighting or doing anything related to it. Sol noticed this. That after Alice had gotten the notebook of the league of thieves leader, she was a bit down. A bit our of her elements another reason as to why Sol wanted to spend that day through nothing but complete fun and relaxation.
However, there was something missing from this or rather, someone. Cain was not with Miss Olivia and Eve. Sol learned that he enlisted himself in a special training program led by King Jubilee. Something which the two were not informed of, although they've encountered the king countless times upon returning back to the domain.
Sol was a bit worried about it. He was also thinking why the king needed to keep something like that from them. But just like the real information on what happened to Ether, the boy thought that it was probably another highly classified information. One which the king would eventually tell them but, not at that moment.
Hence he brushed the idea aside. After all, it was impossible for King Jubilee to be the enemy. Not with everything he has done for the ten domains. Not after all the help he offered for everyone.
"You guys are so slow. Is this all that a paladin can do?" Eve taunted, successfully baiting in Alice who challenged the little girl.
"Oh so you think you're faster than me? Wanna test that out my little sister?" Alice's tone was energetic. She wanted the race as badly as Eve did.
"You bet I do big sis." The little girl responded. However, Sol walked in the middle of the two. Bonking Alice's head and patting Eve's.
"You can have your race later. Miss Olivia for us in the bench, we should go there first." He said.
"No fun older brother." Eve declared.
"No fun Solomon." Alice supported.
"What are you guys toddlers? Come on, playing comes after that." Sol said as they went on their way.
With the people visiting the Void being filtered, there was no danger or threat that came. In fact, the people from the other domains were so respectful and courteous. Knowing that their own domain's name would be sullied if they even make a scene.
This proved King Jubilee's hypothesis to be true. That it was possible for domains to coexist. That living with someone who had different powers would never be an isolating and alienating experience. That despite the cultural differences, everyone was still human. With the same color of blood. With the same number of bones. With hearts, and brains, and everything else.
The harvest festival was the first step towards coexistence. Sol and Alice even made this goal a lot easier to achieve after they dealt with the league of thieves. Sizing down the amount of danger that loomed within the domain.
It was simply a happy event for everyone. At that moment Sol and Alice simply enjoyed this. With Eve finally reaching her mother as the paladins followed in her trail.
"You three look tired. Shouldn't you rest first?" Olivia said in a worried tone.
Ever since they transferred to the Inner Walls, Miss Olivia has continued getting fleshier. Turning her into the beauty that she truly is. Without all the beatings of her dead husband and, with most of her worries gone by the wind, she was radiating with life and beauty. With a warmth that only added to her noble-like appearance, Making eyes turn to her before Alice sharply glared back at the men who walked straight ahead and never dared another attempt.
"We're fine mom. In fact don't you want something to eat? I can get some for you." Eve suggested.
"Are you sure you can handle it honey?" Olivia asked.
"Of course I can! My big brothers have been up to a lot of shenanigans when they were this age. I could at least handle this small errand."
"That isn't something you should proudly say Eve." Sol commented.
"Anyway I can handle it! Just give me the money and I'll come back before you can recite the anthem of our domain twenty times." Eve said, putting her hands on her hips and puffing out her chest.
Sol looked at Miss Olivia for consent first. The lady gave a short sigh, knowing that her daughter could not be stopped at that point. She then looked back at Sol and gave a slight nod.
"Okay miss grown up. Here you go." Sol said, giving a small pouch to Eve which made sounds of coins hitting against one another.
"Make sure to buy what you can carry okay? There's four of us and you've only got two hands." Sol reminded.
"Don't worry big bro! I got this!" Eve said before finally dashing away.
It was only seven in the morning. The group actually had a light breakfast already. Eating freshly baked bread and drinking warm milk. However, with so many food to choose from, one couldn't help but try them all. Especially if someone had enough resources.
Sol for one did not want to deprive the Bloodbournes of this. Thus Eve, as the courier, was given the job of buying all that she could carry. With the girl quickly moving through all the shortcuts she memorized. Making her travel time even shorter.
"I bet even big sis Alice can't be this fast." Eve bragged to herself, refusing to slow down and, was in fact speeding up even more.
Eve passed through a thin alleyway. Jumped up a pile of crates. She moved through cobblestones and then through an evenly flatted out concrete flooring. She saw a few people along the way, all wondering what the rush with the child was about. Then, after all of this, she was finally near her goal. The main plaza where all this food is located.
"Now for the finale!" Eve said, leaping in the air and taking another shortcut through a group of trees and vines. However, the girl made a slight miscalculation.
Her foot was caught on a vine causing her to lose her center of balance and, into an imminent accident.
"H-Huh?"
The world went to slow motion instantly. Eve saw the world upside down and her brain couldn't catch up to what she was about to go through. People panicked but, since most of those within the area were Void citizens, they couldn't react on time. Except for one.
A figure jumped up to the air, catching the child in his arms. They were about to crash to a store when this same person used his ability. Creating flames that exploded from his foot and making them jump up even more. Flying over the stalls and, landing safely to a gap in the side.
"Are you hurt miss?" The man said, his cloak hiding his face entirely.
Meanwhile Eve couldn't give a response. Aside from the fact that she felt humiliated, she was also a bit scared after realizing what could have happened to her. Tears formed from the corner of her eyes and her lips were shaking making the figure back away as he took off his hood.
"Hey now don't cry. I'm not a bad guy see?"
"I-It's not that. I w-wanted to look cool but..." Eve couldn't finish her sentence anymore. She was just a few seconds short from finally crying. Leaving her rescuer with no choice but to take matters into his own hands. Standing up and snapping his fingers over and over again. Creating brilliant green flames that went up the sky like fireworks.
This finally stopped Eve's tears. She was in awe at how dazzling and radiant the flames were. And how visible it was even in the morning sky.
"My mom told me that you should never cry over small things. Otherwise you won't have enough tears when it's really needed. So push those tears back, I'm sure you can use them for something else." The boy turned to the small girl, offering his hand and a smile as Eve gratefully accepted the offer. Blushing unconsciously.
"What's your name mister?" She asked, with her generous savior answering in a calm voice.
"The name's Jade."
