The system was kind enough to recognize the league mission as a genuine quest and so I could see what my rewards were for it and I was dumbfounded. To say they were generous would be an understatement and that last possible reward had me super fucking curious as this was the first time I didn't actually know what I would get for doing something. Even more so I understood that the high reward came from the fact that the risk to myself was equally high. Not gonna lie and say I wasn't eager to throw myself into that danger either as my ambition would be a joke if I couldn't handle this much adversity.-

Once we got to Slateport and I thanked Mr. Briney before he left with his boat I called up Birch immediately. "I was wondering if you would call after getting that mission." he said the moment the call went through. "I'm not saying I don't understand why I specifically would be chosen to complete it given my recent actions but last I checked this sort of thing tended to be well into the rangers jurisdiction." I said voicing the part that made me confused. I was right to be confused too as dispersing hoards before they become a problem was the bread and butter of the rangers so for someone else to get a mission involving it was abnormal to say the least.-

"You won't get any judgement from me about what you did to those traffickers since as far as I am concerned their kind is a blight that needs to be destroyed even if it calls for those willing to get blood on their hands to do it like you. As for the mission however you would normally be right but due to the increased criminal activities all around the region the rangers have a serious lack of man power in the wilds to keep the wild pokemon from turning into a hoard and causing a break."-

"That is where star badge people like you come in handy for the league as you can be trusted to have the power needed to handle the problem and are typically free to rush over at any given moment in cases like this one. As for why you specifically were chosen it was actually a suggestion set forth by the rangers order themselves. Apparently you impressed them somehow so whatever you are doing keep at it as it's working for you." Birch explained seriously.-

I nodded in understanding "That explains quite a bit but now I need you to try and help me collect information on the hoard so I know what I am dealing with. Nothing to hard to get just things like what the leader is , the size of the hoard and what sort of pokemon it consists of. Without that information I will need to make up things as I go and that might end up unnecessarily bloody." I said calmly. It was true too as without knowing these things I would need to make my own assumptions that could result in a bad encounter with the hoard on my end with heavy amounts of bloodshed needed to retreat.-

Besides it wasn't like I was asking for anything unreasonable but merely some intel that any basic aerial scouting could acquire relatively easily. "You are in luck about the leader of the hoard as it is a Milotic with a shiny variation which made it easy to identify. Don't bother trying to capture it though as it has made it clear that it is hostile to humans after attacking unprovoked six times in the past month alone. As for the rest give me a couple days and I think the league can gather it for you. Birch out." he said before hanging up. -

'A shiny Milotic huh? Maybe it was owned by a human in the past that mistreated it?' I pondered over the information seriously. It was honestly hard to imagine a Milotic that was innately aggressive as the species was highly peaceful to the point of going out of it's way to try and calm two opponents fighting normally. Everything about this situation screamed oddity to me and even without the unknown reward I would try and seek out whatever it was that drove such a peaceful species to violence.-

Don't mistake peaceful for weak though as while the species preferred to solve their problems without violence they could dish it out just as well as anything else if they needed to. The reason I was in luck about it though was thanks to Rune being a hard counter top the Milotic since the species was water type exclusively and heavily utilized moves of that type as well. In addition the species almost always lived in lakes or ponds since rivers and seas tended to be very violent competition wise.-

This meant that for the most part this hoard leader should be heavily limited movement wise and thus easy to rain attacks down on. With this in mind i walked into Slateport and headed for the nearest ingredient store. I wanted to buy some things to make a type of narcotic potion to send the hoard to sleep or at the very least make them inattentive from drowsiness so that I could slip by peacefully and go straight for the hoard leader. If it wasn't for the optional objective to keep the casualties bellow forty percent I would probably just have my team carve a bloody path to the leader for the levels it would likely give. -

One on one battles in a semi controlled manner were all well and good for increasing the skill and power of ones pokemon but I knew for a fact that exposing them to a whole new type of combat would give them a huge boost in levels at a rapid rate until they adjusted to it. Pokemon levels were after all a mix of physical power , skill and experience so a new combat experience was nothing but beneficial.-

Still with that idea totally out I chose to leverage my alchemy skill and create a knockout potion that I could aerosolize into a mist to put the majority of the hoard to sleep assuming it wasn't mostly consisted of pokemon that didn't sleep to begin with or could resist it. I bought some dream seeds , nightmare shrooms , illusion grass and Drowsee tears to craft this potion. The first three were plants native to this world that were commonly used create sleep medicine while the last was the literal tears of the pokemon Drowsee that innately held ties to dreams and sleep.
