Chapter 3: War Crimes
Chapter 3: War Crimes
POV: Aircraft Commander of AC-130 gunship
"Commander we will be reaching the city in about five minutes; I'd suggest we switch to weapons mode in case any enemies are spotted from this distance." Reever said through the radio, whom is the co-pilot of my gunship.
"No, we will stay in stealth mode so that we can circle around the city undetected in case of emergencies, the fighter jets will be doing most of the air assault while we are there for spotting and rescuing the hostage." I stated, our main mission was to rescue a teenager who had been taken here 7 years ago. The difficulty of this mission may vary depending on if he is able to make it to the extract point we made.
I switched radio channels to the special forces unit who was tasked to rescue the teenager in case of a ground rescue scenario. "Captain we are five minutes out from the city. If your unit is needed, you will only be working off the location of the hostage and nothing else since the intel is almost nonexistent." I said to the captain, making sure he and his team understood that they were in the fog and were ready for anything.
"Roger that." The captain said with a deep voice filled with confidence as this wasn't his first rodeo. "Gentleman we will be on standby in five minutes, double check all of your gear and get into parachuting positions when you're ready." The captain told his unit while he himself was already standing ready in position ready to jump at any given moment.
I then switched my radio to the commanding officer of the fighter jets assault force. "Nolan what's your estimated time of arrival for the assault?" I questioned him considering they should have already started the assault. "Our first jet is about ten minutes out, after that each jet will go one by one with each assault being three to twelve minutes apart from each other." Nolan said with a more frustrated tone considering he was a hard ass when it came to being on time, especially on a crucial mission.
This mission actually held two objectives , the first one was capturing this city in its entirety since it was the last major stronghold of the enemy force. The second was recusing a teenager who is a Volestian citizen that was captured by a terrorist group and turned into a solider. Not only that but he has a considerable amount of intel, so his rescue is a priority. All of the teams who are a part of this mission had a fire lit under there ass because one of our people needed to be saved and we wanted to annihilate the opposing side.
"Commander, we have arrived and will now be circling the city, our altitude will be thirty thousand feet." stated Reever although I could tell he was quite nervous considering this place was about to become a graveyard.
I looked at the monitors in front of me which displayed live footage of the city. Many buildings which were over 30 stories high could be seen as well as an abundance of citizens and soldiers walking the streets not knowing what was about to hit them. Everything looked quite dirty though, since the cameras on my ship can zoom an incredible distance without making the footage extremely blurry, I could see many things clearly. The streets were filled with trash, the air looked very polluted, even feces could be seen all over the place showing that this entire country was very behind in terms of technology.
As we were about halfway through our first lap around the city, Nolan had switched to my radio channel informing me that his first jet out of seven was about to commit their first assault in a single minute.
"Reever get ready, Nolans fighter jets will be starting the assault in a minute, inform the ground forces to start there convoy now, so that we could get artillery bombardments going in a hours' time." I told Reever through the radio making sure that the ground invasion would start right after the air assault was over.
The jets main targets were areas of interest of the enemy force, meaning solider camps, military bases, food storages, water storages, hospitals, ectara. We have tried invading this city a couple of times, but all were failures because of insurgency. We could not kill innocent civilians, so the soldiers started dressing up as them and would play hide and seek with us while also using underhanded tactics such as suicide bombing and general use of explosives which were considered war crimes.
This has killed many of our soldiers, so the higher ups within the military decided this entire city was an enemy and the order was shoot to kill no matter who it was. This is reason for the indiscriminate slaughter that is about to happen because we've simply had enough of dealing with the insurgency.
Finally, after about 40 seconds the first fighter jet was seen approaching at an absurd speed, moving like an arrow straight through the sky. It's first target was a cargo space that held military vehicles as well as anti-air machinery which would cause problems latter in the battle. Since it was an important area and quite a large one at that, many personal could be seen moving around doing their jobs.
Many people could be seen lifting their heads looking towards the sky since they had heard something approaching. They saw only a grey object moving at an extremely fast pace towards them and everybody immediately started panicking and tried to find any sort of cover quickly. Soldiers can be seen moving around also panicking but not nearly as bad as the civilians.
The fighter jet made its way to the cargo space and started unleashing wrath upon the area. Bullets firing out at such a high speed that you'd hear the bullets impact first then the sound of the gun firing. The weapons on these jets were that terrifying even hearing the sounds made you want to give up.
"BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT" "BRRRRRRRRRRRT"
"BOOOOOM" "BOOOOM" "BOOM"
"TRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT" "TRRRRRRRRRRRT"
The sounds of the bullets ripping through the ground, humans, and metal could be heard throughout the entire city. The entire cargo space was ripped to shreds and not a single sound could be heard in that sector because everything was annihilated. Dust and smoke started to fill up areas near the cargo space which just added to the fear of every living being residing in the city.
The enemy had started to man every single position that was given to them, but it did not matter because nothing they had could touch these specialized jets that were made for killing. Any anti air weapon or vehicle they owned was not on par with these jets and any single human who had the capabilities of fighting off such things were already eliminated when the war began.
I looked over to my right then behind me to check all of my comrades faces to see how they would feel. All of them had a straight face and an unmoving will to complete this mission so that no more of our brothers could find their last moments here.
I then looked back to the monitors to see which area the jets should hit next and was not surprised to see that many soldiers were trying to get into a church. This was not surprising because holy sites cannot be targeted by military personal since it's a war crime. Little do they know is that we will be committing many war crimes this fine day and that church is going to be their graves.
I switched my radio to Nolan's to inform him where the next target will be considering I had eyes on almost the entire city. "Nolan tell the next pilot to hit sector W7 and put most of the gun fire on the church." I said over the radio with a heavy tone since this will be the first war crime of many today. Nolan was silent over the radio for a little bit because we truly did not want to do such things, but we must win this war. "Roger." Nolan said with quite a sad tone since we will be reason many innocent people die today.
