Chapter 16: Discussion
Chapter 16: Discussion
"Thud" "Thud" "Thud"
The sound of knocking could be heard in my room causing me to immediately wake up and throw myself of the bed. I took a defensive stance while trying to grab away at my pants looking for a pistol I usually carry.
As I was grabbing away at nothing, my mother's soft voiced muffled its way through the door. "Azrail, the military officers are waiting downstairs for you, get ready and come down."
My mother's words brought me back to reality, making me stop grabbing at my shorts. My raging heartbeat started to calm down and I slowly started to get up.
'Calm down, you aren't in any danger. Relax just breathe.' I told myself, trying to break out of this mentality I had with always thinking I'm in danger.
"Okay, I'll be there."
I sat back on my bed and started to breathe in and out very slowly to calm down my anxiety.
Luckily I sleep with regular clothes on, so there was no need to change. I had my usual clothes on with just black shorts and a white long sleeve shirt. I got up off the bed and decided to get this conversation over with.
I made my way through the house and when I reached the downstairs my mother and two seemingly middle aged men came into my sight.
Both men wore highly decorated suits with many medals matching the suits prestige. The suits were colored with the darkest shade of black with golden and violet red threads running through them.
A Volestian flag could also be seen on the where their hearts are located, symbolizing they live for Volestia. The man who seemed to have more medals on his chest walked up to me while putting his hand out gave himself an introduction.
"It's nice to finally meet you Azrail, my coworker and I work for the VIA and we were hoping to sit down and have a conversation with you, if you don't mind of course." The man said as he and I were shaking hands.
'... I can't feel his energy levels at all. This man is way above me in terms of strength and the same probably goes for his partner too. These guys are high in rank, there is no doubt about that.' I thought while shaking the man's hand and listening to his introduction.
"Okay, let's talk in the living room then. Mother do you mind leaving for this?" I asked my mother since I didn't want her hearing anything from this conversation.
I didn't hear any response making me look around to already see that she was gone.
"Don't worry, we already told her about what this conversation would entail and that she couldn't be able to listen." The man who shook my hand stated to which I acknowledged with a head nod.
We made our way to the living room then taking our seats on the couches. I sat alone while the other two sat together, looking quite comfortable although this conversation was quite a big deal.
"So correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the VIA Volestia's intelligence agency?"
"You are correct, we are the people who deal with intel related to pretty much everything, but we mostly deal with gathering intelligence on other countries."
"I see, what are both of your names by the way since you never told me."
"Oh really? My apologies my name is Samual and my partners name is Luke."
Taking a closer look at both men I noticed that both of them looked quite ordinary. Samual simply had grey hair with light brown eyes while Luke had light blue hair with matching blue eyes.
Their facial features also weren't that impressive, if you saw them on the streets you'd probably assume they were civilians.
"Alright, well let's get the boring part over with. I know you're mainly here for my intel so let's get right into it."
.......
After three long grueling hours the conversation for the intel was finally over. Speaking for that long not only drained me of all my energy, but made me have to remember many dark times, all of which I wanted to forget about.
Both men seemed quite saddened though, although this would help the soldiers still fighting in Maru greatly, having it need to come from a child who suffered because of it was a sad cost.
"Azrail, this information will save many lives, you have no idea how many people will come back to their families because of this. In our eyes you are a hero, what you have done will not see the light of day, but those who know will always greatly appreciate you." Samual said as a tear rolled down the man's right cheek.
"Indeed, we will make sure if you or your family ever need help the government will be there for support. I'm sorry for everything you have had to go through, but that misery might just bring a new goal to your life." Luke said while looking over to Samual who looked back at him and nodded his head.
"I know you just got back home, but do you have any thought on what you are planning to do in the near future?" Samual asked, I believe he was trying to offer me something by asking such a random question.
"Not really if I'm being honest, my only real plan was simply going to school then joining the military."
A smiled formed on both men's faces as I already knew I walked into what their sales pitch was going to be.
"Tell me, how would you feel about attending an academy that would have almost every race that is known on this planet attend, with all of them being near your age?" Luke asked while trying to maintain eye contact with me.
As I was about to answer, Samual dropped a bomb that Luke decided not to say for whatever reason.
"We should mention that this academy will be held in the Fallen Empires territory. I do hope you have heard of that legendary nation because yes, it does actually exist."
'... Fuck, they got my ass.' I thought to myself while staring at these two grandpas who just swindled a kid.
