CH.448 Seaside Paradise Fissure, part 4
“Sir!” DM2 came out of the core bunker and called out for me.
I quickly got up and headed for where he was.
“What’s going on?” I asked on the way.
“We have a mana and miasma spike. Could it be..?”
“Yeah. The pre-sign. Have you looked over the dungeon?”
“DM1 is. I came to get you.” DM2 answered. Naturally DM2 calls DM1 by name, but I’m too lazy to name them, as they won’t even appear in the series after this arc.
When we arrived in the core room, DM1 was already looking over the dungeon security cameras, so we joined him.
“Anything yet?” DM2 asked.
“No. Nothing that looks like anything Sir Wood described.” DM1 answered.
I quickly began looking over the feeds myself, but since I couldn’t control them, I was a bit slower than I’d like to be. I guess I can just process information faster than the two dungeon masters.
When the camera feeds next changed, I noticed something. It wasn’t the pre-sign of the fissure, but still something interesting.
“Hey. Are there supposed to be that many A-rank monsters on floor 36?” I asked.
“No. Definitely not.” DM1 said.
“Alright. So that is the most likely place. But we need to check the next few floors as well.”
“But there is no pre-sign, right?” DM2 asked.
“True, but we also don’t have perfect coverage. It could easily be somewhere we cannot see.”
We quickly checked the following floors, but couldn’t see anything that would point at the fissure being there, so I called it being on floor 36.
I then exited the bunker and told everyone that it was go time. So with just a bit of final prep, we left the core floor and headed up.
On the way, we again killed all the monsters that had respawned. And the one to do the most was.
“Come forth, Armed Dragon Level 10!” Cailie called out, summoning out her strongest monster for the first time.
Yes I gave Cailie Armed Dragons. Armed Dragon LV10 is the strongest Wind attribute monster I have. Well, tied with Storm Neos, but still.
And besides, with Wilma running the VWXYZ and Cailie now having the Armed Dragons, the two can combine their monsters into OjaMegazord, aka. Armed Dragon Catapult Cannon.
After Cailie annihilated the monsters that stood before us, with perhaps some help from LV10’s effect, she came to me.
“... Brian. I’m not sure this monster is a great fit for me.” She told me. “I like it, I do, but …”
“Scary? Monstrous?” I asked.
“... maybe. I want something cute. Like the Aromages that help me in the CropFields.”
“Yeah. I can probably get you something. I’ll just have to check if I can Capsule myself more Aromages.”
“And besides, considering that you are technically a synchro yourself, I think some Synchro monsters will be a better fit for you.”
“You and your … I’d don’t actually know what I should call this.”
“Wordplay, maybe. Or just interesting irony. But whatever. I’m about to get at least two new sets, and guess what. Those sets just happen to come with Synchro monsters, so soon I’ll have more cards to pick from. And if memory serves, Stardust Dragon is a Wind Synchro.”
“... Explain that to me again later, because that didn’t make any sense.”
“Oh yeah. I’ve never really explained Pack Opener to you.” I realized. I was about to start explaining it, but Cailie put her finger on my lips and stopped me.
“Later.”
“Yeah. That’s it.” I confirmed when we reached floor 36, with the clear lightning bolt looking thing of miasma just hanging in the air.
“Good. Everyone, we’ve gone over the plan, so execute it to the best of your abilities.” Wendy commanded everyone.
I waited for people to get into positions before I got the five cards I needed out of Storage. And then, I chanted.
“Oh, Forbidden One sealed away in stone tablets
I require your might to assist me in my endeavors
I break the chains that once bound you
As I’ve gathered your pieces to make you whole
So with all five pieces of your true might I summon you
Exodia the Forbidden One!”
With my golden giant, who could just barely stand up straight in the dungeon, summoned, I was ready to pop the fissure. I was somewhat tempted to bring out Errelitea for that, but I didn’t want the adventurers seeing it, so instead I just quickly activated and deactivated Dimensional Fissure.
The wave of mana and miasma that shot out of the fissure didn’t feel nice, especially as this was the first time I looked at one with Mana Vision active. Honestly, the opening was almost blinding and I definitely won’t be doing that again.
I then had Exodia get to work repairing the fissure, but it will take a while, so time to keep Exodia safe and hope that Wendy and the rest can take care of whatever happens to appear from this fissure. Because if they can’t, I may try something extremely stupid.
No. I’m not telling you the stupid ideas I have in mind. Because I’ll try them with the next fissure. Or the one after that. I’ll try it at some point and you’ll find out then.
“It’s Coming!” I called out to everyone, as I saw the mana and miasma pushing rushing out of the fissure stop for a few moments, as if it was gathering up for something big.
I just looked as from the fissure, heads began to pop out. One after the other, until a total of eight heads had come out. Everyone seems to have a different attribute.
Light, Dark, Wind, Water, Earth, Fire, Lightning and Nature. Eight heads, one body. A hydra that almost surpasses SS-rank and enters into the unranked monstrosities, like the strongest servants of the demon king.
Let’s see if Wendy can do what her predecessor did. Taking down a superpowered hydra.
The fight was started by the hydra, as the nature head spit out purple mist, probably poison. Wendy quickly gave a command to her priest and he quick casted some sort of purifying spell, as the poisonous mist turned into just regular mist.
Her party then reacted without any orders, the sage casting a Flame Inferno spell while the archer shot arrows at the hydra heads. The mage of the Narra Kingdom party also joined in the offense, letting loose a Wind Tornado.
While that was going on, Wendy formed herself a frontline. She, the Bella Kingdom guardian, a shield wielder from the local S-rank party, and another guardian from the Narra Kingdom party were at the front with their shields.
Behind them was the major offensive close range power. That being Rudevik, who seemed to be eating something, a swordsman from the Narra Kingdom party, wielding a giant two handed sword, and a local spear user.
As soon as the combined magical attack let out, the frontline attacked. The hydra tried to stop them by letting out multiple elemental breaths out of its different mouths, but the shield bearers were able to block most of it, and gave the offensive power a chance to attack.
The attacks did some decent damage to the heads, one of them even getting cut off, but that won’t help against a hydra. These suckers regenerate way too quickly for that.
But I did notice something interesting. As the hydra regenerated the damage those attacks did, it pulled on the mana and miasma leaking from the fissure. So it is likely that this hydra is even more difficult than usual, but the good news is that a lot of the leaking mana and miasma are going into it, instead of spreading everywhere.
I then heard some singing and noticed Cailie swimming in the air above the combatants, providing a buff for them with her Battle Song skill. I would have been worried, but Alice was flying next to her, so I’m sure they’ll be fine.
Einar and Eline were at one end of the floor, holding down the floor entrance that led to floor 35 with Andro Sphinx and Sphinx Teleia, while Unika had brought some of the dungeon monster under her control with her Charmers.
I didn’t actually have to do much, as the battle continued. The hydra’s attacks killed any random monsters that would appear, because friendly fire is most certainly on. The only thing I had to stop were some of the hydra’s breath attacks it would aim at Exodia, and stopping them was as simple as dropping a Mirror Force or Magic Cylinder to turn the attack back onto the hydra.
So after Exodia finished closing the fissure, I began to consider helping out with the hydra, as it was still pulling in large amounts of mana and miasma from the environment, and I don’t want this dungeon to dry out or anything.
So let’s finish it quickly instead. The only problem is, I don’t really want Exodia to obliterate the hydra. We need something just a bit weaker. But not too weak.
And I may or may not have a monster just for that.
“Exodia, do you mind acting as the tributes?” I asked my God monster.
He didn’t seem overly enthusiastic about the idea, but accepted it nevertheless.
“Thanks. I tribute Exodia, the Forbidden one and two of its arms to normal summon.
Roaring titan of justice and judgment.
Hear my prayer from beneath the pavement.
Punish those who hath done wrong.
Crush their heart and show who's strong.
Show them all your strength and might.
Rise and bring me victory in this fight.
Obelisk the tormentor!”
I then quickly used the two remaining Exodia legs as the additional tributes I needed for Obelisk’s effect.
“Obelisk attack! Destroy that hydra with Fist of Fate!” I did consider using God Hand Impact, but I’ll go with Fist of Fate. Technically Fist of Fury is also an option, but I prefer Fist of Fate.
With one mighty punch, Obelisk ended the life of the eight headed hydra, bringing this fissure to an end.
“We could have taken it! You had no need to step in!” One of the Narra Kingdom adventurers yelled at me, as we were making our way back down towards the core room.
“Yeah, I know. But the hydra was pulling mana and miasma from the dungeon. Mana and miasma this dungeon needs to heal from the damage caused by that monster. Had I let you take things at your speed, we may very well have been left with a dead dungeon.” I explained myself.
“Why are you complaining in the first place?” Alice asked. “Brian is letting you keep all the materials in the first place.”
“And you get your shared experience points, because you still fought the hydra.” I added.
“...” He didn’t comment after the pointers, but it did seem like he wanted to say more.
Though for some reason I think it is mostly because I made the hydra look like a little bitch, after they couldn’t really damage it all that much.
After we reached the core room, I asked the dungeon masters if the core took any damage from the fissure. They told me that while there was some minor damage, they think it will heal, so I just let it be.
So the dungeon didn’t die and the fissure was solved. Now we just need to wait a day or two to see if the excess miasma is able to cause stampede or something and then we’ll be home free.
Maybe I can leave that part to the locals and just return home beforehand.
