CH.442 Learning to Teleport
CH.442 Learning to Teleport
“Space, Take me to the place I’ve marked, Teleport to Seal.” I chanted inside the Factory.
I had been doing more tests on teleportation magic, and out of all of them, I could now use two reliably inside the Factory.
Those two were Short Teleport, which is a line of sight based teleportation spell. As well as Teleport to Seal, which naturally needs seals that you make beforehand and mark the areas with.
Teleport to Seal is great, because it is simple. … kind of. Simple as far as teleportation goes. Since it relies on a marked target location, there is no calculating the coordinates or anything like that. All you have to do is connect to the seal and then move yourself there.
… And hope that nothing goes wrong, because when things go wrong with teleportation … Well, it doesn’t usually end well. Missing limbs is just the start, as I can just as easily accidentally leave behind a critical organ. Which is why I’ve been holding back in trying it outside of the Factory, but I think I’m ready.
And it isn’t like I’ll be teleporting across the world. It will literally just be a short five meter hop at first. Then going up from there.
Naturally I had Lua, with Monster Reborn and Gift Card in hand, overseeing my first try. And yes, that level of preparation is necessary. Do I need to remind you that I could literally leave my heart behind as I teleport?
… admittedly I can survive for about half a minute without my heart. I learned that in the Factory when I accidentally just teleported my head and nothing else. And I know missing most of my body is more than missing just my heart, but that is the closest one I’ve had to losing my heart.
If I just lose an arm, I can easily … somewhat easily, grow a new one as long as I get sufficient overheals.
After making sure the seal was perfect, I backed up, chanted the spell and teleported.
“... okay. Not perfect, but not bad.” I said, as I took stock of myself.
“... I don’t see … oh? Your hand is bleeding.” Lua noticed.
“Yeah. I think I lost a nail.” I said, as I looked at my left hand. “... nope. Not the entire nail. Just a little over half of it.”
“... I don’t like the fact that you called losing something ‘not bad’. I’m really not sure you should use teleportation magic until you can do it without harming yourself.” Lua said.
“What? Don’t you like it when I bleed?” I teased her a bit, as Lua healed my broken nail.
“But you know how this goes. There is only so far I can take my control in the Factory. Mana Control there is very similar to here, but it isn’t the same. I have to just bite the bullet and risk some injuries.”
“Still don’t like it.”
I did a few more teleports, managing to do them with injuries even less than what I had on that first try, like losing a tiny patch of skin or leaving behind a few hairs. On the seventh try, I finally did it without leaving behind anything.
“... okay. I think that will do for today.” I said. “I got the data I wanted, so I’ll let Laura look over it. That way, we’ll see if there are improvements to be made.”
“A shame you couldn’t use the data from the dungeon teleportation for that.”
“Yeah. It just operates on a different system. The dungeon teleportation uses a mix of miasma and mana. I can’t do that, so I can’t teleport using the same magic the dungeon uses.”
“Doesn’t Lady Janina know how to control miasma? Can’t we learn it from her?”
“... She has never admitted it, but I think so. When she uses magic, both mana and miasma whirl around her. … that might be why she is so strong, as well as basically immortal.” I theorized. “... but I’m not sure humans can even control miasma. I know I theorized about it when Cailie got Spiritual Mana Control, but with the System protecting us from the miasma, it might also prevent us from controlling it.”
“Okay. I can see that.” Lua agreed.
“... but what I don’t like about that is that I think it might be a limiter of sorts.” I said.
“Limiter in what way? Miasma is dangerous.”
“Yes, but it is also powerful. Again this is a theory, but if the thing that makes Lady Janina immortal is her ability to control miasma, the System might intentionally limit the power of people to control miasma, just so no one can become immortal. At least no one with the System can.”
“... but why? Why would the System prevent that?”
“Your guess is as good as mine, but I can offer up a few options. I think the biggest one is the demon lord. I think he may have been able to control miasma. Of course I have no clues if he really can or not, but it would make sense.
“And even if it wasn’t the demon lord, there may have been some other humanoid who once gained control over miasma and became immortal and rules this world with an iron grip. Then the Goddess improved, or limited, the System so that anyone holding it cannot control miasma.”
“... maybe. An immortal ruler may not be the best thing.”
“Yeah. Immortality isn’t so great, if you can’t make others immortal. You’ll just end up losing everyone you love.”
The following night, we, now the five of us, Cailie and Wilma included, found ourselves in the System parlor.
I went through a similar introduction of the place to Cailie as I did with Wilma. in
Waiting for us there was Aulis, but he asked us to wait, as the Goddess would be joining us herself.
The lady herself soon appeared in the room, in all of her rainbow glory, and sat down at the circular table.
“Thank you for coming. Especially you, new System Support holders.” The Goddess greeted us.
“... t-thank you.” Cailie was just able to mutter out, likely being in awe of the Goddess, while Wilma just stayed silent.
“I shall start with you, Holder Cailie. You not only prevented the Nixie clans dungeon’s death, but you also managed to subdue your power hungry sister. Had she been allowed to stay in charge for much longer, who knows what would have happened. So I thank you.” The Goddess said and added a slight bow at the end.
“N-N-No! You! You don’t have to thank me!” Cailie spluttered out.
“Have you not learned from Brian?” The Goddess said, as she tilted her head a bit. “It is the job of the superior to thank their underlings.”
She didn’t wait for a response, but instead quickly turned to Wilma.
“And you, Holder Wilhelmina. You managed to complete the Sword of Reality. It really is more wonderful than we could ever have hoped for.”
“T-Thank you. But I couldn’t have done it without help.”
“No one can do everything without help. Even I need my System Agents.” The Goddess said.
“But I wasn’t here just to thank you. Holder Brian, you know the drill by now.”
“Another fissure?”
“Yes. Aulis will send you the details.” The Goddess said, as she looked at me. “He will also add an assisting mission to all of you.” She added, as her eyes ran over everyone.
“Alright. It will be taken care of.” I promised.
I then watched as everyone began to disappear from the room, leaving only the Goddess and I in the parlor.
“... so there is something more?” I asked.
“... sadly, yes. About what you talked about earlier today.” The Goddess said.
“Miasma control, right?”
“Yes. I felt like I should explain a bit. … it isn’t our will to limit people like you. People who rely on the System to keep you safe.” The Goddess said. “... but miasma is dangerous in so many ways. So we limited the access to miasma control to those with Advanced System Support, or higher. So if you put in the effort, you are capable of learning how to control miasma.”
“... was there someone at one point? Who used miasma to make themselves immortal and rule the world?” I asked.
“Yes.” The Goddess confirmed. “It wasn’t the demon lord, in case you were wondering. Most of his power came from misusing a Chaos God Dungeon. The one who learned miasma control existed long before the demon lord and no records of his existence are written down.” She told me.
“But a part of his legacy still lives in the world. Sleeping, but living. You’ve learned of one of them recently. The monster the supreme dragon told you about.”
“The Cthulhu looking thing.”
“Yes. We know there are more like it, but sadly, we cannot locate them. We do not believe they will awaken, but it isn’t impossible. … and if they were to awaken…”
“You want me to take them down?”
“... Yes. Sadly, there is no other choice. We cannot command the supreme dragon, and outside of you, she is the only one with the power to oppose them.”
“Why didn’t you mention this earlier?” I asked.
“Because we saw no reason to. Even now, with the fissures going on, we do not believe that they will awaken. A major even, such as the death of a power equal to the supreme dragon, would have to take place for even one of them to be awakened. That is how the ‘Cthulhu’, as you call it, awakened. At the death of the supreme dragon that predated Lady Ami Janina.”
“I see. But then why tell me now?”
“Perhaps because we wanted you to know. Or perhaps because you theorized about someone immortal through the use of miasma. It all leads to the same end. Honestly speaking, I am not quite sure myself why I told you, but I do not regret telling you.”
“... well, more information is never a bad thing, so thank you.”
“Just don’t stress out about it. The likelihood of any of them appearing is very low, and your God monsters should be around as powerful as they are. I do not believe they will be of any major trouble for you.” The Goddess said. “I shall send you back now. Enjoy the rest of your night.”
The next day, we took stock of the missions we got. … I didn’t tell anyone about the additional comments by the Goddess yet, as I was still swirling them in my head.
I think I’ll tell them about it, because I hate keeping something like this secret, but I’ll do it after the fissure.
The fissure was taking place in a few days, and the location was in the middle of nowhere in Ruiso Kingdom, so we had no issues when it came to that.
I also asked the two about how they saw the Goddess, because I was interested.
Wilma saw her as a white haired elf, pretty close to the depiction that is considered ‘official’, but the elf part threw me off. But I guess having elf ears isn’t that strange, so I just let it slide.
For Cailie, the Goddess appeared to be a mermaid with a long white tail and light blue hair. Nothing overly strange, but I do find it interesting that I haven’t seen any depictions of the Goddess looking like a mermaid.
Cailie then told me that the underwater church in the Hero’s country depicted the Goddess as a mermaid with a white tail and blue hair, so maybe that is why she saw her that way.
Said few days later, the five of us took down the fissure no problem. Cailie and Wilma were on support, Cailie using Battle Song to buff others, while Wilma was commanding her VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon, acting as our main firepower, while Alice and Lua were also casting some spells.
Naturally the world owl, a giant owl monster that specialized in magic, wasn’t a big problem for us, and we took it down.
For rewards, I got a new set unlocked, .
Alice got herself a magic staff, which she was at first a bit disappointed about, but it did actually have some decent stats and I had a great idea for it, so she perked up a bit.
Lua got herself an outfit that boosts Holy Magic, with a recommendation that she use her unique skill on it to turn it into something that will be even better for her.
Wilma got herself some adamantite to work with.
And Cailie got herself Language Comprehension (humanoid), which wasn’t super needed as she had already learned how to speak the ‘surface language’ herself. But it might be useful if we run into people who don’t use either the underwater language, or the surface language.
And I guess this was her first fissure, and she is in an assisting role, so a lesser reward does check out.
But you know where this is going, right? I got a new set, so let’s cap this chapter off with 10 packs of Light of Destruction.
I didn’t look at the set list too much, but I did notice Judgment Dragon, so I’m guessing some Lightsworns are going to be in these packs.
So without further delays, let’s go!
Okay. Well, Wetlands is … usable. Not all that great honestly. It isn’t bad, but just … I don’t think 1200 attack is really going to be enough of a boost for LV.2 Water Aqua monsters for them to be useful.
Summon Limit is an alright card, and it should limit the regular summoning magic as well, so … it is alright.
Golden Bamboo Sword is a good for generating Pack tokens.
The Lady in Wight is cool, and goes well with Skull Servants and King of the Skull Servants, so definitely a nice get.
Jain, Lightsworn Paladin isn’t one of the best Lightsworns. It isn’t bad, but … it is just okay. Her armor does look nice though.
Golden Ladybug had a mediocre healing effect, nothing I really need.
And then there are the Arcana Forces. Fool is good, because battle indestructible. Moon is decent, because I can summon it without tributes. And Emperor is … a coin flip. Yes, pun intended. It is either a decent attack boost, or completely useless.
Next pack.
Portable Battery Pack is decent Batteryman support, but nearly useless for me.
Volcanic Queen is nice, because I should be able to just tribute an SS-rank monster and replace it with the Queen which will be a lot easier to take down.
Sanguine Swamp is not good. Just not worth it at all.
Miracle Flipper is just bad. No other way to put it.
Goblin Recon Squad isn’t all that amazing, but I’m sure my goblin bank will still have a use for them. I don’t know who they will spy on, but I’m sure they will figure out a target.
AF1 The Magician is alright. And for me, the tails effect of healing can actually be legitimate tech, and not just a useless effect.
Divine Knight Ishzark is okay. Not great, but not bad either.
And Ribbon of Rebirth is great. I should be able to use it in the place of Rope of Life for new resurrection bracelets. And they should be better, because I think Ribbon of Rebirth will resurrect someone at full HP, and not at 800 HP. But I’ll have to look into that.
Next pack.
Batteryman Charger is a good Batteryman, when you don’t have to tribute to summon it.
Interplanetary Invader "A" is trash, and I won’t even tell you why.
Rainbow Gravity is cool, but ultimately useless.
Mystical Cards of Light can give me more daily Pack tokens, but too much work for too little reward.
D - Fortune is okay, but Negate Attack is literally better in every way.
Dice Try! is useless, unless I go to a casino or something. But why would I use Dice Try! at a casino?
Cross Porter searches out Neo-Spacian monsters, but the other effect it has isn’t needed.
And Simorgh, Bird of Ancestry is fine. Nothing god tier, but also not bad at all.
Next pack.
Raging Cloudian isn’t all that good.
Space Gift is a Pack token generator, so I’ll leave it for Laura.
Realm of Light is an okay field spell, and I’ll be making a Realm of Light room in the Factory.
Gragonith is actually quite nice, when you don’t have to worry about how you’ll summon it. It gets big fast, especially if Realm of Light is active.
Dark Valkyria looks great, but her effect is pretty bad.
And Super-Ancient Dinobeast is okay.
Next pack.
Six, The Lovers isn’t that great. I don’t need tributes, so something that counts as two isn’t that helpful.
Arcana Call is trash.
Reversal of Fate is okay, I suppose. It isn’t good, but I can put it to work.
Short Circuit is actually pretty nice. A full field wipe for my opponent.
And Substitoad is … I was going to say great, but I have unlimited summons and searches, so it is only good.
Next pack.
The Chariot is trash.
Cup of Ace is either gain or lose Pack tokens. So a bit too risky, because on average, I won’t gain anything out of it.
Quick Charger is perfectly fine, recycling Batterymen from the GY.
Light Spiral doesn’t do anything for me.
And Jinzo - Returner isn’t all that good.
Next pack.
Demise of the Land is the only new card, but it isn’t necessary.
So next pack.
Hero Mask isn’t useful to me. Even in the TCG, it is bad. … at least as far as I remember. Just renaming a card temporarily can’t be all that good. Sure it acts as a Foolish Burial, but I don’t think that is worth it.
Deck Lockdown is fine … if I go against someone with the Card Summoner skill. For anything else, it is useless.
And Aurkus is fine. Targeting protection is good.
Next pack.
Tour of Doom is interesting, but ultimately kind of useless.
D - Formation is too slow and useless.
Level Tuning is … maybe there is a use for it. Maybe for Synchro summons? It does have Tuning in the name.
Cloudian - Storm Dragon is nice. Nothing more to it. It does what Cloudians want to do.
Spell Gear isn’t worth it and I can just search and normal summon.
And Nimble Musasabi is your average Nimble monster. Kind of cool, but a bit too weak for my use.
Last pack. And honestly, even if I don’t get anything amazing, this has been a pretty nice opening.
Gladiator Lash is bad.
Lucky Chance can make Pack tokens, so I’ll leave it to Laura to decide if she wants to use it.
The Empress is fine, but nothing special.
And Unifrog is just a frog.
But yeah. All in all, a good pack opening. From ten packs, I got two super rares and one ultra rare. Best card was probably Simorgh or Ribbon of Rebirth.
