Chapter 8 Desert Kingdom Of Lazica
It was no surprise that the surroundings of the Death Canyon was just a desert. It was modeled after the Grand Canyon but made a little bit more dangerous.
And by a little bit, it was not a hunting ground at all. It was only a place for guilds to try their luck.
Lazica was one of the least popular kingdoms to start the game. The levels required to enter these hunting grounds were just too high.
Some entered the desert to see if they could find any items of sheer luck, but usually, it was just a deserted kingdom.
And Death Canyon was a place that was reserved for only the people who were beyond level 50. No one below dared to enter, or it was instant death.
But Jake was a little different. Not only did he know the mysteries of death canyon, he knew exactly how to survive it.
But one thing that confused him was why a quest took him all the way to death canyon. Seeing how things were turning out, it looked like he was going to class change to an epic, or even a legendary class, one that would make him stronger than everyone else.
But death canyon was never supposed to be explored until three months later. Whoever made this storyline, was going a little off path for sure.
Even if there was the butterfly effect, it shouldn't have been this big, and affected the game at this scale.
Setting all things aside, Jake glanced at his inventory.
He had the standard items that one would receive after the tutorial, namely, a basic armor, basic boots, basic equipment, and one gold coin.
"Wait a minute. One gold coin? I thought that after completing tutorial village, we would get one silver coin!" Jake thought.
"Hello, friend. It looks like you are new here. Do you want to register for our guild? We are the Sand Eagle guild, and we are based in this kingdom. There is absolutely no one that can help you better than we can." one person approached him.
Jake smiled. Before he could even do something, the guilds approached him like scavenger rats.
"I am not joining a guild yet. I want to look around and see what I can do. But if I am joining a guild, then I will definitely come to you." he nodded and quickly escaped the dozens of recruiters.
Even though this place was abandoned compared to other kingdoms, World Online had as many players as there were people.
Even a kingdom like this had at least hundreds of thousands of people if one was conservative. And guilds thrived with more people because they could level up together and enter farming grounds easily.
He was currently in the capital city of the kingdom. Unsurprisingly, it was the city that had the most players in the entire kingdom.
He entered the market and looked at the variety of shops that just lay there.
"I want some Hujin Scorpion Blood, please. And if you do, Blue Jay feathers..." Jake listed out a few materials like he was some sort of alchemist.
The NPC did not even bat an eye and he took all of them out with ease.
"Comes to a total of eight silvers. Are you planning on entering Death Canyon, by any chance kid?" the merchant asked, laughing.
Jake was astonished. He did not expect the NPC to just uncover what he was doing. This was a recipe that he struggled to remember. After years of research, the alchemy guild, a supporting behemoth of a guild, came out with this formula to enter the death canyon without the scorpions attacking the players without notice.
And now, it turns out that the NPCs already knew about this a long time ago?
Once Jake was done with this, he already planned on patenting this formula. With this feature, he would be able to earn money for every single time that someone used this formula to make the paste.
And the system admin made it such that there was no way to cheat out of it.
Jake smiled and took all the materials, while paying with the gold coin.
"Oh, it looks like we have a noble here. Please forgive me for my tardy behavior then." the merchant smiled.
A gold coin was rare in the first few months of the game, and anyone who would use one right off the bat was either a noble NPC, or someone who lucked out and got a nice quest.
Jake nodded and left the place. He took out the items from the inventory and just mixed them all together in a specified ratio that he knew.
[Creating special paste. Special paste synthesized. Congratulations. You have made the first complex alchemy product in the game. Would you like to display your name throughout the world?]
"No. Not yet, I am not prepared. But do I get any other benefits?"
[+20 NPC Karma. NPC karma will make it easier to interact with NPCs, and you are more likely to get a quest if you have NPC karma.]
Jake smiled and nodded.
"Now that I have an item in hand, I should finally enter the death canyon. Why wait the entire ten days. I still have a debt to pay off." he told himself and stretched his hands.
"Sir!" Jake heard the sound of the merchant from whom he just bought the items from.
"What is it? I am quite far from your shop, so you must have closed it off just to come all the way here." Jake smirked. He knew that something good was coming.
"It looks like you are going to the Death Canyon. May I trouble you with a small request of mine?" the merchant rubbed his hands and grinned.
"Just what do you want?" Jake asked.
