Chapter 40 Phoenix
Jake and Myriad Arrows were at the store, walking up the stairs.
The customers all recognized him, the guild master and owner of the building. Pointing at him, they all whispered to each other.
Jake smiled as he continued to walk up. As they reached the apex of the third floor, Jake frowned as he saw that there was no guard there anymore.
He walked up to look at what was happening. They saw that the guard was standing right next to the guest who was sitting not on the side facing the window, but in Jake's chair.
Veins started popping on his head as Jake stepped on the floor and glared at the guard who was standing right next to the woman.
"What are you doing? Why the hell is she sitting on my desk?" Jake demanded.
"Forgive me, Baron, but she is someone who is recognized by the Duke. I have no chance but to listen to her commands when you are not here." the guard apologized immediately.
Jake then glanced at the woman. With light red hair, pink eyes, and a charming face, she smiled at Jake.
"It took you quite some time to get here," she said with a sweet voice, but in Jake's ears, this was only irritating.
"Get up. You came here to do something, didn't you? If you don't listen to me, you will get kicked out right now." Jake said, cracking his knuckles.
"Such a killjoy." the woman pouted as she got up and walked up to Myriad Arrows, who was standing right next to Jake.
"Interesting. So you are the co-leader of this guild. I wonder, how much power do you hold?" she asked, touching Myriad Arrows' lips provocatively.
He stepped back and wiped his lips with his sleeve immediately, looking at her with surprise.
"So rude!"
"Stop playing with him. Now then, you came here for a reason. Out with it. There should be a reason that the daughter of the president of Venur came all the way here to talk with me." Jake said, walking around the woman and sitting on his chair.
"You know who I am? Interesting. I didn't know that I told you all of this in the chat I had with you." she smiled as she sat opposite to him.
"Your name gave it away. I think that only you can afford to have the name Phoenix reserved for you. There is no one else who could get that name." Jake smiled.
"You know about this? I thought that this was kept under wraps." Phoenix raised her eyebrows.
"Walls listen, and listeners talk. Well then, out with it. Why are you here? I have an inkling that it has something to do with the floor that we are sitting on right here?" Jake asked, slouching back on his chair.
"Don't worry. Unlike many others, I don't need land. Especially in a dead city like Diffast where people will leave after a few months. But your information, that is indeed valuable. How did you become a baron?" Phoenix did not mince any meat.
"You came all the way here to ask me about that? You should have asked your assistant to come." Jake chuckled.
"Are you going to tell me or not?" Phoenix's playful face immediately disappeared and she glared at Jake.
"What is Venur going to do? Try and find me? Torture me? Well, best of luck. I hid my identity quite well. I know that you don't know who I am. But I will give you a nice opportunity. This is information that many people want. I can even start a bidding war for this. But since you came here, I will even give you a discount." Jake smiled as he looked at Myriad Arrows.
"You want me to go?" Myriad Arrows asked. This was going to be a sensitive topic, and something that was worth a lot of money. Myriad Arrows understood that they would need some privacy.
"No, I want you to listen as well. This is something that you should try to do sooner or later." Jake shook his head.
He then looked back at Phoenix.
"So then, how much money can Venur spare?"
"I can give you as much money as you want. How much do you want? A million dollars? That is more money than you have ever seen before, isn't it? I can give you all that money." she said.
"I have no intention of revealing who I am to you. Anything that happens only happens with in-game currency. Gold coins or nothing." Jake shook his head.
"You are a tough nut to crack. How much money do you need?" Phoenix sighed.
"Well, I did float a new guild, and things are getting quite expensive. So many new members, it takes hundreds of gold coins to maintain all of them. Five thousand gold coins. That is half the money that you offered to give, a nice discount from yours truly." Jake said, rubbing his hands.
"Five thousand gold coins? Are you mad? No one has that much money. If they did, then you wouldn't be the first person to own a building!" Phoenix coughed.
"I know that someone recently sold a lot of gold coins on the market. A lot. I know that you must have gotten in on that action." Jake smiled.
"We need that for the guild! We can't spare it for some information that might not even help us!" she shook her head vehemently.
"Well, you are missing out on this. Sure, you somehow got a Duke's favor. But how long does that last? A week? Look around. Guards surrounding me, special privileges, all this could be yours for a cheap price of five thousand gold coins. This is a bargain, honestly." Jake said.
Phoenix bit her lips and her eyes darted around.
Finally, she tapped on the desk.
"Four thousand. That's the best that I can do."
"Deal!"
