Chapter 288 Old Man (2)
Chapter 288 Old Man (2)
Jake didn't move a muscle. He stood still as he felt a sharp pain on his neck.
The old man was holding maybe a knife to his neck right now, and he didn't want to start a knife. Especially not against someone who was probably way stronger than him.
"What is with the secrecy? Who are the knights of sin?" Jake shook his head and said.
"Who sent you to the emporium kid? Who told you about the emporium?" The old man asked once again.
Jake sighed.
"Some guy with a scar on his face. He said that I had to come to the emporium because he was too busy to tell me himself." Jake finally said.
"A scar on his face…" the sharp pain that Jake felt started to become faint.
"Could it be?" The old man's face suddenly changed and he took his knife away.
"You… you are coming with me." He said and the next thing that Jake felt was a sharp pain on the back of his head.
Immediately, the bright lights around him started to dim, and he could see that the world around him started to grow darker and darker.
"Damn it. I should have been ready for this." Jake cursed, but it was a second too late.
His eyes closed involuntarily, and then, there was complete silence.
———
"Wake up you brat!" A familiar, raspy voice echoed in Jake's head.
"Ouch!" Jake wanted to rub the back of his head but it felt like he couldn't move his hands.
"Now that I think about it, why can't I move my body?" Jake forced his eyes open. Luckily for him, his surroundings were just as dim as the back of his eyelids.
"Where am I?" He muttered, but even this low sound echoed around wherever he was.
"Good. Looks like you are finally awake." Jake heard the old man speak behind him.
When he tried to turn around though, he found that his body just refused to move.
Looking down in the dim lighting, he could see that his arms were chained down to a chair that he was sitting on.
"Great. So much for an F ranked quest." Jake shook his head.
"I should have known that there are no F ranked quests when there is a legendary class involved." He sighed as he tried to figure out where he was.
There wasn't nearly enough light to see what was around him though.
"Your armor, your sword. These are things that I haven't seen in decades. Where did you get them, boy? These are items that you can only attain once you have inherited the right to use them." The old man asked.
"Where did you meet the man who gave you the armor and sword? Where did you meet Wrath's Knight?" The old man asked again.
Jake took a deep breath and thoughts ran across his head.
Finally, he decided that there was no point in hiding anything. The old man already tied him down, and clearly knew why more than he did.
"Lazica. Death Canyons."
There was a brief moment of silence.
"So he was hiding there, that bastard. Too bad. I really wanted to kill him myself." The old man shook his head.
"Who are you? What is this place? And can someone please tell me what is happening?" Jake couldn't take it anymore and he asked again.
"You should have some patience." The old man said with no emotion.
"Now then, the man with a scar. He had an armor similar to yours, I suppose? Purple?" The old man said.
"Pride, no doubt. Deems it beneath him to do anything. Then again, all you knights deem everything beneath yourself." he sighed.
Jake could finally see something in the distance now. His eyes were getting accustomed to the low light, and he could see a dark shadow pass by his side and come in front of him.
It was the old man who was staring straight at him now.
"So then. That's why you were looking for this place. Because you are the new knight." The old man smiled.
Jake nodded.
"Don't worry. Unlike many, many people around here, I am not going to kill you the moment I find out that you are Wrath's choice." The old man chuckled.
"I am just curious. What did he see in you? I wonder." The old man shook his head as he kept walking.
"Either way, it looks like you found what you wanted. You are here where it all began. After seventy years, Wrath's Knight finally returns to where it all began."
"Can you please give me some context here? I have no idea what any of what you say means." Jake shook his head and asked again.
"Context… It will come in due time. Do not fret, young boy." The old man chuckled.
"Why don't we go for a walk? It is time for you to see what you came for." He said.
As he did, Jake suddenly felt all of the chains that were tying him down release their grasp.
Immediately, he sprang out of the chair that bound him and stretched his arms.
"Damn it, that was exhausting." He cursed as he stretched his arms.
Sitting down in that chair with his arms and legs tied down was worse than he expected.
"Come then. Follow me. We have places to be." The old man smiled as he clapped his hands.
The moment he did, Jake closed his eyes instinctively at the blinding light that flooded the place.
Jake squinted to look at where the light poured in from.
As he looked up, he could see a floating crystal that flooded the giant hall with light.
And then, Jake could see where he was. And when he did, his mouth opened wide with shock.
