Chapter 255 Transformed
Jake tried pushing his sword inside, but it simple wouldn't budge. The zombie's hide was too thick for even his sword to cut through.
This was perhaps the first time his sword wasn't able to cut through something. It was a feeling Jake almost never faced in this life.
"Damn it." Jake cursed as he let go of the sword and retreated a few steps away, trying to get some distance between him and the zombie.
He would rather not die because he didn't have a sword in his hand. And looking at how big the zombie got, almost twice his height now, he knew that the enemy would have that increase in strength.
"Please tell me that he gave up speed to get so big." Jake muttered as he kept his watch on the zombie leader.
The giant grabbed the sword that was wedged into his chest, and took it out with one fell swoop.
"This is a good sword. It will make a good addition to my collection. I think I can even use this one in the future. It is good enough to use." He nodded as he held the sword with his giant arms.
In the face of the giant, this sword of misery seemed like a kid's toy. But Jake could see, the sword was slightly trembling.
Near the handle of the sword of misery, there were blue sparks. Sparks of anger.
"Do you really think you can unhand me that easily? Do you think that you can just take my sword just like this? Just what do you think you are holding?" Jake shook his head and smiled.
The zombie leader seemed to understand what was happening. His hand was stinging just from holding the sword.
At first, it was just a small buzz. But now, the pain was growing stronger and stronger.
The sparks that arose from the sword's handle grew larger and louder. Everyone in a small radius around them could hear this sound, and it was also causing damage to the zombie leader.
His hand was slowly losing a layer of flesh.
"This irritating thing." He bellowed as he threw the sword as far as he could away from him. But that only made Jake smile a little more as he opened his grasp and felt the cold chill of the handle once again.
[Sword of Misery is an item that cannot be dropped. Sensing that it is no longer with the user. Returning to user's hands.]
"You damned human. Just lose already!" The zombie leader moved.
Jake was ready for this. He moved just as quickly, and this time, it wasn't to meet the enemy in common ground. He wasn't that stupid.
Against a monster that had just finished a transformation, he would rather not try and battle it out like this. He knew he had to find out what stats increased, and what stats remained the same.
As he moved, the next instant, the zombie leader appeared where Jake once stood. As he appeared, a gust of wind swept toward Jake.
"He didn't lose any agility. If anything, he got faster!" Jake realized.
"If he got bigger, stronger and faster, there must be a catch. There must be a timer for this. I just need to outlast him, and as long as he loses the transformation, he might get weaker than before, even!" Jake told himself.
He had to go on the defensive against this enemy that was way too strong right now.
"Where the hell is everyone? Mages? Healers? Why the hell is no one helping me in this fight?" Jake cursed.
He didn't have the leisure to look away for even a second now though. With an enemy fast enough to appear right in front of him in that one second, he couldn't afford to lose his concentration.
He didn't even want to shout. He just locked eyes with the zombie leader, and slowly moved, bending his knees.
Surprisingly, this time, none of the zombies around him were attacking him. None of them came even close to him.
They seemed absolutely terrified by the zombie leader that Jake was facing at the moment.
"At least that's a plus. I don't have to face the zombies along with the zombie leader. That would just be impossible." Jake sighed with relief.
He extended his arms, putting the sword a foot in front of him, as he held it with both hands.
In the off chance that he had to defend, he knew that he would need both hands to defend what was coming.
"You rat. Stop moving." The zombie leader turned and moved once more.
The moment Jake saw the zombie leader move, he also moved.
But this time, he didn't move to the side, or to the back.
He moved diagonally toward the zombie, and ducked. He could feel the sharp feeling that came from approaching an enemy so recklessly.
But obviously, no one would expect such a maneuver from someone who was trying to be on the defense.
He extended his sword to the left, and felt the sword scrape something that felt almost like concrete.
The screech that came when the sword and the zombie leader's skin made contact made Jake's skin crawl.
He skid to a halt a few moments later, and turned around to look at the zombie leader.
The enemy took a little more to stop, and as he turned around, Jake could see a small purple slit to his side.
"Good. I am actually dealing damage. That's all that matters. I need to keep dealing damage." Jake sighed with relief.
"How long are you going to keep up your pathetic resistance? At the end of the day, you will die by my hands. How long can you keep running?" The zombie leader shouted as he rushed forward once again.
"As long as you can keep attacking." Jake smiled as he replied, moving just as quickly.
