World Online

Chapter 13 Enemies Within

The moment that Jake entered the caslte, a few notifications rang.

[Completed SSS quest. Leave the Quest or continue to Bonus quest?] the notification asked.

Jake was just confused.

"The SSS quest is just this much? There has to be a problem. There is no way that I just had to battle against a few guards and the queen suddenly became safe." he thought.

But little did he know that he was immensely, immensely lucky. With his skills of the previous life, he was able to take care of the guards with ease.

But he was not supposed to have those memories. Many of those skills that he used, and the mastery with which is used them, were not supposed to be available to newcomers who had just started the game.

And keep in mind, this was World Online. Every person was only allowed one avatar. This was law in all the countries.

When that happened, who would be able to beat ten other guards who were that much stronger than him, as well as trick all those bandits to run to the forest?

The commander dying was also something that was not supposed to happen. Jake did not know that the commander was someone who was almost twenty levels higher than him, but all of that was negated because it was a sneak attack in a weak spot that led to a critical hit.

All of these coincidences together led to him completing this SSS ranked quest in such record time, with little to no effort!

He stopped for a moment, and glanced at the queen, who was walking forward in front of him.

For a second, he thought about it, and knew that the more that he helped her out, the more it would benefit him when he would put up his own guild.

If he could kill all her enemies and consolidate her position even more, then the Starlight Kingdom would become a better kingdom for him to have a start at.

He nodded, and decided that he would continue in the quest. He was not losing anything at all, because he was already done with the quest. He had put a leeway of around five or six days for the quest, and seeing that only one of it had passed, he could afford to continue working on it.

All he had to do was find one person. That one person who these people worked for.

One thing was sure. Before Jake had taken over this body, he also worked for this man, who wanted the queen dead. And that person was probably one of her biggest enemies.

Although he was not sure, he put aside the Prime minister out of suspicion because of that comment that the guard had made.

"I knew that you were faking it..."

He already planned on going to the quarters that were assigned to him to find a few clues, but that was for later.

He had to stand behind the queen and make sure that nothing was going to happen to her. He did not trust any other to do the job, even though this was the imperial castle.

He walked along with her, and carefully looked at the eyes of every single one of the guards. This was like the real world, and even the eyes of the NPCs could give a few subtle cues that would be important if one payed attention to them.

He could see lust reflected in many of their eyes. This was the terrifying part of being a beauty. Men would try and risk it all to try and obtain these beauties.

Jake knew for a fact that the Starlight kingdom did not have a queen back when it first came into the headlines. When more and more people started attacking the western world because of the untouched exp grinding fields, and the items that could be looted, the Stairlight kingdom was a weak kingdom.

It just fell with ease. Now, seeing the kingdom right now, he understood exactly why. This was a pitiful display for a kingdom.

They entered the throne room, and many guards looked at Jake with confusion, and some with surprise. Some recognized him enough to give him a thumbs up and a nod.

For Jake, this could only mean one of two things. Those people were all part of the same group that wanted to assassinate the queen, or that they really thought that Jake lucked out.

He had no compassion for these NPCs. Sooner, he would extract the information somehow.

Unfortunately for him though, he was forced to stop at the throne room. He was just a new knight that had not even gone through the proper procedures.

So, he was stopped at the entrance of the throne room and was told to wait for the queen to finish talking to the commander-in-chief.

When everyone important was inside, the guards moved toward Jake.

"You are a knight now? What happened there man?" one guard asked, but Jake's eyes were locked on one guard who was approaching him.

He just got a bad feeling from him.

Jake escaped from the bombardment and went to this one guard.

"What happened? Did it fail?" the guard whispered.

"Someone interrupted us. I was able to avoid suspicion, but the rest all died." Jake knew exactly what he had to do now. This was handed to him on a silver platter.

"What do I tell master?" the guard asked.

"I need to talk to master. I have a solution, but this is something that only his ears can hear." Jake said.

"I think that I can arrange a meeting, but do not be so hopeful. He is a very, volatile person after all." the guard said.

"You know where to find me," Jake said.

"The usual place?"

"No, now that I have gained the queen's trust, I cannot move around too much, lest it raises suspicion. Come to my quarters and we can go from there." Jake shook his head.
