Chapter 33: [Last Words]

"Last words? Yeah, I have some," said Mori.

"Alright! Let's hear it, I'm in no rush, after all," said Luxian.

Mori was on his back, looking at the sky where the sword resided, its size colossal.

"How many like us are there?" asked Mori.

"Well that's not really last words," said Luxian.

He walked back, grabbing the small wooden chair.

As he did, Mori noticed smoke coming from under him, vanishing as Luxian turned around again.

Once back next to him, he sat on it, crossing his legs while sitting upright.

"I figured since you don't want to go back to that 'boring' front-line, you wouldn't mind telling me some things before I die," said Mori.

Luxian nodded, "You might be trying to save time here, but you can't beat me. Maybe if that sword up there was real, you could."

"It's not real?" asked Jeff.

"Obviously, it's way too big to be real. If someone had that kind of magic they'd also be way stronger than this guy."

"So," cut Mori. "Is there more people like us, like you?"

"Sovereigns? Quite a few. On the front-lines there's two others with us, while the last one stays at the capital."

"Why keep you guys there? If your war relies on three Sovereigns, then the moment I kill you, you'll start losing."

Luxian's eyes squinted at Mori, while his teeth showed through his smile. As Mori seemed serious, he started laughing again.

"Hah- Kill me? Hahaha, fuck me, you're killing me here, oh man!"

Luxian turned around in his chair. "I think I'll keep him alive."

"Why would you?" asked Mori.

"We have ways to make you obedient. You'd receive a slave curse, and I'd have you join me on the front-lines. With enough training, you could maybe be as strong as me. You're a Sovereign too, after all."

"Are the other ones as strong as you?"

Luxian's smile faded.

"Oh, hell no. These useless..." Luxian remembered Jeff was behind him, "...These valued members of our elite force are well-trained, but not on my level. They've barely broken through the 5th and 6th path. I'm all the way up at the tenth."

Mori chuckled.

"That makes you all pretty weak, doesn't it?"

Luxian frowned, "Listen, you can try provoking me all you want, I'm not killing you before you're branded with the curse."

"Luxian, I'm pretty sure...-" started Jeff.

"Just-Shut up, man. You're really annoying me, right now. You're not on our level, stop acting like it. You're just an average man with high level toys. Know your place."

"S-Sorry sir."

"I am bleeding out, here," said Mori.

"You're clearly handling it, but here,"

Luxian stood up, raising his hand above Mori's body.

His white eyes shone brighter as he cast his spell.

"[Light Heal]"

His hand grew brighter, the rays radiating from it touched Mori. He felt warmth he had never felt before, as if the sky had opened up and he soared through it, light and breezy.

Once it stopped, that feeling had gone away.

Mori quickly looked as his limbs, they hadn't come back, to his relief.

"Well I can't give you your limbs back just yet, simpler to wait until you're cursed. Maybe I should go retrieve them right now," said Luxian standing up.

"I'm not just any Sovereign," said Mori, stopping Luxian.

Luxian turned around, surprised.

"I've been curious, tell me. I really hope it's more impressive than the other ones."

Mori had a faint smile. "I'm the Cursed Sovereign."

Luxian nodded, then started frowning.

"Why did you tell me? Now I have to kill you here. There's no point keeping you alive if you can't be cursed."

A loud snap echoed through the city.

A shockwave raised dust a meter in the air, windows breaking and wood cracking.

Everyone looked up, the sword had slowly started its descent.

Luxian laughed, while jeff ran toward the gate, ignoring Sarah on the ground.

"Jeff, why are you running?!" yelled Luxian.

Luxian loudly sighed, as he turned around, slowly walking toward Jeff.

He quickly stopped, however, as Jeff hit an invisible wall, unable to leave.

"Huh, what kind of party trick is this?" asked Luxian.

Jeff was panicking, his hands trembling as he repeatedly hit the invisible wall with his fist.

"fuck fuck fuck..." he muttered.

Luxian looked up one more time.

"What's happening?" asked Luxian.

"He's happening! I tried telling you, he has Asmodael's ring, he's locked the city down, no humans can leave this place, that's why it's been such a slaughter."

"We just need to take the ring..."

Luxian turned around, looking at Mori, remembering he had cut his limbs clean off. He quickly looked around, trying to find them, but they were gone.

"What?! Where..."

Luxian scanned the area quickly, but no limbs remained.

His smile was gone, fading a little bit more.

"Quick! Quick! It's falling! You need to stop it!" yelled Jeff.

Luxian quickly launched a light spear toward the sword in the sky.

As it reached it, it broke on its surface.

"Fuck, it's real?!"

Luxian ignored Jeff and crouched, light wings coming out of his back as he prepared to launch.

As he started his upward motion, chains came out of the ground, piercing both his wrists, trying to reel him in.

"You should clean some of that blood off you," said Mori.

Luxian looked down, Mori's blood was all over him.

He tried to jump again, using more of his power to launch himself upward, the chains eventually gave up, but new ones popped from the ground as he broke free.

Luxian was able to lift a few meters of the ground, but the chains just multiplied.

They kept coming, one by one, piercing his body and trying to reel him in, as he fought to take off.

The sound of the sword falling became louder.

Its real size was truly impressive, as it got closer, it looked even bigger.

Soon, the sky disappeared, the only thing remaining was the edge of a sword.

There was no escape.

Luxian was a few meters off the ground, still fighting against the chains.

"Looks like this is the end," said Mori, still on his back.

"You're so weak, how?!" said Luxian, struggling.

"My mana is weak because most of it went into the sword. You should've just killed me."

"But a spell of that level! What are you, 11th or 12th path?!"

"19th."

Luxian's face went pale, as he looked up one last time.

Nothing besides the sword could be seen in the sky, as it was about to finally reach them.

All of them looked up. In their final moments, all they could hear was Mori Laughing.
