Chapter 76
76 Lancers arrival and Exit
All surviving participants had already noticed the absence of the giant after all it was hard not to notice the disappearance of a 16-meter-tall humanoid, so when the stigmata vibrated signifying the elimination of one more member of the holy grail no one was surprised.
The priest who had just arrived where the assassin and his summoned were located didn’t even spare a glance at his stigmata he just stared focused at the bungalow that was radiating a perverse dark aura, around the building one could smell the foul stench of death as bodies of dead animals and humans in the nearby surrounding were littered around carelessly.
The sack clothed figure who followed the priest frowned at this scene, it wasn’t the massacre that made him uncomfortable but the immense dark magic that filled the surroundings were like poison to him making him deeply uncomfortable, the sack clothed figure turned to stare at the priest with inquiry in his gaze.
“Looks like he is prepared he has created a pseudo shadow space and the whole building has been swallowed by it, it will take a while to break it and by then it would be too late.” The priest said quietly his gaze piercing through the empty house and finding the assassin standing guard for the figure sitting cross-legged in the complex magic array
“So what do you want to do.” The lancer’s plain voice sounded.
“*Sigh* guess it can’t be helped, Lancer Let me tell you a story, there were once two brothers, orphans for as early as they could remember each other was all they had, it was them against the world...”
“Since it’s reached this stage the story really isn’t important anymore isn’t it.”
The lancer’s impatient voice sounded interrupting the priest thoughts, lancer was really not interested in knowing the priest’s story, countless misfortunes were happening daily in the void around, and from the little the lancer had learnt in his short life he knew that listening to the story would do him no good at the moment, he did not want to know more about his summoner’s story this was just a short stop on his martial arts journey, he only participated in the war to see if he could awaken his light elemental ability and combine it with his spearmanship anything else was inconsequential also from the lancer’s observations he knew the priest mind had already been made up and listening to the priest backstory and commenting on his decisions was of no significance.
The reason the lancer had not been active in the war after all this time was because of the deal he had with his summoner, after being summoned the lancer found himself trapped in an array, the priest who refused to divulge his name gave him conditions, one he was not to participate in the war unless ordered, two he would have to do his best to fulfil a condition when the time came, and in return, he would be given a spear-like artifact which contained the rules of light which would help in awakening his innate light elemental energy.
.....
Lancer had no idea how the mage dressed in priest clothes knew of his details and goals in participating in the war but decided to agree to the priest conditions, he knew whatever or whoever that divulged his information to the priest was probably someone of a very high level, someone who he couldn’t be against, it was best he just went along with it.
The subsequent events that happened during their period of time together and the ability of the priest to accurately find this obscure location in such a short time without any prior act of searching affirmed the Lancer’s guess.
The priest was silent for a while before finally speaking with a determined glint in his eyes.
“Yeah guess you are right, Lancer this is where you fulfil your part of the bargain at whatever cost kill Roma, kill my brother.”
With those words spat out of his mouth the priests face started becoming deathly pale, his veins becoming visible from under his skin and glowing a bright golden yellow colour.
“Let me give you one last help.” Those were the priest last words before his death, his body immediately shattered into countless particles of bright golden light particles that flowed into the wooden spear grasped in the lancer’s palm.
With the flow of light, some obscure hidden markings on the spear were quickly revealed, it was an ancient hidden language but the lancer could perceive what it meant, it roughly translated to mean “in the presence of light evil cannot stand.”
The spear glowed brightly and huge amounts of energy were condensed in it, from the spear the lancer could feel the overbearing nature of light energy hidden in the artifact.
Grasping the brightly lit spear tightly, the lancer felt as if he was holding a brightly lit star in his palm, he adjusted his body to adapt to the immense weight and then slowly moved the spear forward making a stabbing motion, the lancer was expressionless he knew after this stab he would most likely die and be eliminated from the war but he didn’t care, he could already feel the spear was deeply connected to him and would follow him out of the world once he was eliminated. The stab he exerted with the artifact contained his full out force as well as his rudimentary spear intent, the artifact combined all these forces tightly and perfectly and the attack was sent through the sparse light particles and waves that was ever present in the air, piercing through space and ignoring all obstacles heading straight for its target, the attack was in the form of a bright beam of light moving rapidly close to the speed of light.
The assassin who was standing guard moved rapidly although he could not perceive exactly where the threat came from his consciousness although muddled knew if he waited any longer he would not be able to react to whatever danger it was, quickly drawing his sword, he slashed in an arc-shaped trajectory towards the area he felt the threat was forming, the arc shaped slash was an instinctive move it followed such a way of movement in order to follow space curvature for faster movement.
A second later the sharp slash suddenly emerged ignoring space and distance and appeared in front of the beam hitting it head-on although the slash unable to nullify and disperse the attack but it managed to reflect the attack changing its flight path saving the life of Roma who was still motionless seated in the array.
Although the attack failed to pierce its target it still exerted considerable damage as the attack exploded turning into a huge burst of light that could be seen several miles away.
