Chapter 132
132 Attack
Nicholas’s brain was foggy, his surface personality had emerged once more but this time it was different perhaps because of the environment or the altar he was situated on he could clearly remember what had happened when his other personality had taken over, although it hadn’t been confirmed before this moment Nicholas was faintly aware of the existence of another mind in his body, at first he thought he was slowly being taken over by an old monster but now he could see that his assumption was wrong.
The altar not only destroyed his other personality’s backhands but also that of himself, when he was faintly aware of his problem and so he had kept hidden his most important memories, although he did not have access to the information now but he was subtly aware that he had already made some preparations for his safety as long as things did not go irrecoverably wrong he would be soon be found and saved. His memories and plans were kept in the spectacles he normally wore they were a sort of tool, a data storage and an amplifier he created to increase his computing power and hide his secrets from his other self, he was not a genius in combat like his other self but his talent in research was unprecedented, unlike his other half that depended mostly on instinct to manipulate magnetic fields Nicholas was proficient in using precise algorithms and calculations although the tool had been destroyed during the battle earlier but thanks to the environment of the altar his mind was not as cluttered as before and he could make some assumptions based on the sacrificial altar he was placed on.
Unfortunately, the array and altar were mostly theological and outside of his area of expertise, the only thing he could gain from his observations was that the array seemed to forcefully fuse his aura to the altar before he could think further Jorah walked into the room, the smile on his face seemed to have been erased and he was staring at Nicholas with an annoyed expression. Nicholas noticed the cloaked figure was no longer with him and judging from Jorah’s facial and body expression Nicholas guessed that the arrangements he had forgotten about had already begun to take effect.
Jorah was not really in a good mood they were closing in too fast, the remaining decoys he had placed around the city were already attacked and on the verge of being breached it was only a matter of time before they found here. Thankfully from the looks of it the ritual was ready and he had already asked his ally to guard the building outside.
Keeping silent he ignored the staring Nicholas and walked to the edge of the sacrificial array took out a small dagger and slit both his wrist, with the downpour of the red viscous liquid he started chanting some obscure mysterious words and the array and altar started giving off an ominous light.
A black coloured advanced looking rotary aircraft hovered a few minutes from an abandoned construction site, the door on the side of the vehicle opened and a small squad of fully armed military men filed out of it looking at the construction site solemnly and surrounding it, the leader took out a ball like instrument from one of his pockets squeezed it and it activated giving a beeping countdown sound like a bomb about to go off, the device was shot straight into the site and a bright light and low subtle sound was radiated from the thrown object,
‘Crack’
A sound similar to that of a piece of glass shattering resounded and the scenery changed in the place of the abandoned site was a simple grey church like building and a cloaked figure standing right in front of it giving off an enormous amount of pressure, the leader saw this event occur and simply put his finger to his ear touching the device and solemnly stated: “requesting back up, I think we’ve found the location.”
He didn’t wait for a reply but instead took a step forward and shot at the figure with his automatic firearm, his comrades followed his movements and attacked also, the attacks seemed to be synchronized as the projectiles shot from their weapons tore through the air subtly blocking the figure’s chance of escape and the subsequent projectiles that followed moved closely with the first volley of attacks covering all loopholes.
.....
The bullets seemed to go straight right through the figure, the leader upon seeing this realized something was wrong the bullets fired weren’t ordinary, they were made and processed with special techniques ensuring each bullet contained a radiating nuclear force that was extremely lethal to flesh and caused a very minute nuclear reaction in flesh making it hard to heal, the force also ensured that it possessed a sufficient inhibitory effect on magical forces, this advanced weaponry was one of the reasons the federation was a top force and could ensure the normal running of society even with various professionals being born.
The leader upon noticing the situation wasn’t right immediately pulled a lever on his uniform while trying to move away from his position, his members swiftly followed suit and mist emerged from some compartments in their combat suit and enveloped the area, it was a poisonous and hallucinogenic concoction that restrained most types of perception whether physical or spiritual, of course as individuals that deployed the weapon they had special ways to circumvent the restriction.
it was a pity their actions weren’t fast enough as a streak of red lightning shot into the newly emerging fog and hit the leader cutting through his armour and piercing through his heart. The attack did not stop there as the sky immediately grew cloudy and numerous streaks of lightning descended from the clouds into the fog-covered area.
In a split second as the attack descended a huge boom sound occurred and a fierce condensed momentum arose from the fog as a sharp bright sword slash emerged splitting open the dark clouds and the numerous attacks that descended from it.
