Chapter 71: The Distraction
"We can?" No one understood anything, including Claus. They looked back at the sea of soldiers and vehicles with mounted weapons on their tops. Showing themselves should be nothing but suicide.
Linfel looked back at them and didn't say anything. Instead, looked to the side and whispered in the direction of the shadows. "Vera, did you find it?"
*Shushushushu...*
Suddenly, Vera came out of the bushes with Sando already in his katar form in her hand. "I did..." Her expression was cold, just like it had always been since her identity was found. "You will definitely be a pain in the ass of any assassin."
Linfel put his hands on his waist. "Good thing everyone loves me. I'm a very likable character." Seeing everyone's weird expressions, Linfel wasn't as confident anymore. "I am, right?"
"Ahem..." Claus quickly changed the topic. "Would you two mind telling us what Linfel is talking about?"
Vera got down with the rest of the group and took out her MCOM. Right after, another map opened. There were a total of seven red marks on the map, each being one of the transportation vehicles they were seeing. "These seven trucks are filled with Magic Fusion Fuel rods."
Everyone was still puzzled. "So?"
Magic Fusion Fuel Rods were used in many pieces of equipment where a powerful and constant influx of power was necessary. Magic Stones could only do so much, after all. Most airships of medium and grand ports used them, as well as any heavy vehicle. No doubt, all the trucks they saw carrying the provisions also used such fuel rods.
However, they didn't understand the meaning behind finding the trucks carrying these Fuel Rods. Fuel Rods aren't explosive or anything. Even if you fired a pile of fuel rods, all you would get was a blast of Magic Energy that didn't really cause any serious damage. What created the firepower was the equipment charged by the Fuel Rods, not the Rods themselves.
Right after, Vera looked at Linfel. She wanted to see if he understood what she was supposed to do. "You tell them the rest."
"Me?" Linfel was taken aback. "Err... alright. All I have is a theory, so correct me if I'm wrong. I had the chance to work with those Fuel Rods back in Sastasha City at the Vaxuwel Research Facility. They have a lot of equipment there that Magic Stones aren't enough to power up, so they also use these Fuel Rods."
Linfel continued. "Fuel Rods aren't explosive themselves, so just attacking them is of no use. However, they can be explosive... as long as you inject them with Reactive Magic Energy." Linfel then pointed at Vera's backpack. "I think that what you are carrying there is exactly that, Reactive Magic Energy devices. However, you have to have a very big concentration of Magic Fusion Fuel Rods.
Otherwise, you won't get a reaction big enough to cause the explosion. Once it does, however, the more Fuel Rods, the bigger will be the destruction."
Vera sighed and nodded. She wondered if Linfel had sneaked into her bag without her noticing before they arrived. "You are correct." following that, Vera took several of those devices and distributed them between her group. "We don't need to get all seven vehicles. As long as we manage to inject the Reactive Magic Energy into the Fuel Rods of one of those vehicles, the rest will play out by itself."
Claus took a look at the device and then turned his attention back to the sea of vehicles. He easily found one of those pointed in the map, and it was definitely very well protected. Since they knew Reactive Magic Energy could do such a thing, so did Xanzion. That said, the trucks that carried these rods were being watched closely. "Alright, I understand the plan.
Still, I don't see how we will get anywhere near those vehicles. Let alone open one of them to inject the Reactive Magic Energy. We will all be killed way before we can get anywhere near one of them."
Milia pondered a bit and understood. "That's why we have five teams, right?"
Vera faintly smiled. At least for once, it wasn't Linfel who spoke. For some reason, she didn't like that Familiar. "Correct. We prepared these exits before Xanzion got this far. Look under your feet."
Claus and the others quickly dug the ground and found a few bags there. Inside, there were several uniforms... uniforms exactly the same as Xanzion Soldiers. "We are pretending to be one of them?"
"I'm sorry, but Xanzion Country would need to be filled with idiots if they hadn't thought about this kind of thing before," Alvin didn't like it. Which force wouldn't be aware of sabotage or spies in the middle of a war? If anything, dressing as a Xanzion Soldier looked like a terrible idea.
"Normally, yes." Vera didn't deny it. "But not now. Xanzion holds an absolute advantage. In this case, sabotage seems to be even more of a possibility, but it is also because of this that they will let their guards down. Because they think they have everything covered."
"Soon, the other four teams that left with us will cause a distraction. We will pretend to be soldiers running to check the cause of the commotion... and it just so happens that we will pass close to those trucks," Vera explained. "That will be our only chance. The devices in your hands are prepared for it. Aim at the gaps in the cargo and shoot.
That's why we gathered available Level Two Maguses and Familiars here. With the power of our Magic Energies, we should manage to get past the shall of the cargo carrying those Fuel Rods when we shot."
Everyone felt a chill on their backs. Even if they succeed, wouldn't they be instantly identified as the enemy and filled with holes by all the soldiers around?
"I... I can't do it!" Julius trembled. He wasn't a soldier and definitely wouldn't just go out on a suicide mission. "I can't do it! I'm going back. I'm going back to the cave!
I don't want to die!"
He quickly got up and ran back to the camouflaged cave entrance... or so he tried. The moment he began to get up, Vera's Katar came for his head.
*Clang!*
However, her Katar met with a Yellow Glove covered in hardened Earth. It was Alvin, who reacted in the last second and blocked the attack!
