Chapter 107: A Lot Of Fun
Alvin got nervous, not liking the idea of being adrift in space and without being able to breathe. "What do you think, Linfel?"
Linfel looked at everyone and then at Alvin, Milia, and Nori. "Well, you don't seem to be the only one concerned, especially since the objective of the fourth test hasn't been explained yet. It's like Glein mentioned, it is a decision you have to make. I can't speak for you here."
Linfel then looked at the live stream of the asteroid. "As for the asteroid, it is quite big, so it might have a very low gravity, not by much. The trick will be to use your Magic Energy to keep yourself attached to the ground. There are many holes and equipment there that I don't know their purpose, so expect anything."
Finally, Linfel smiled at them. "Well, you haven't forgotten our time in the war, right? Basically, it is another place with a high risk of death. You have gone through this issue before. The question is whether you can take it again or not."
Milia didn't even need to think. "It is no secret that deaths occur during the Ventis Sect exam. Anyone who signed up for this is aware of the risks. I'm definitely in."
"Obviously, I'm following you," Nori added.
Alvin looked at that and felt ashamed of his concern. However, Linfel suddenly sent him a mind message. 'Take a good look with your Magic Sense at her hands.'
Alvin was taken aback and followed Linfel's words. Finally, he understood. Milia seemed calm on the surface, but her hands were trembling slightly. It was true they had been to war, but this is space! Space is frightening, simple as that. "Alright, I'm definitely making it through!
Let's work together!"
Linfel nodded, satisfied. "Now, that's what I wanted to hear."
Pretty much no withdrawals were made during the hour that followed. It was just like Milia mentioned. Everyone knew about the risk of death during this exam.
Glien came back an hour later, not surprised to see most of the participants still there. "Good! You guys seem to have some courage. Now, follow me. Our spaceship is waiting."
Everyone was brought to one of the docks where an enormous spaceship of the Ventis Sect was waiting. It could easily fit more than ten thousand triplets, let alone the little more than a thousand from this Space Elevator. Once everyone got inside, the spaceship quickly detached and drove into space.
Looking to the outside, Alvin felt a little excited. "I've never left the planet before..."
Milia, as a member of the Frondor Family, was different. "I was brought to Ferthis and Osango Planets once during the holidays. We should be entering the hyperspace anytime now. If I were you, I would take a seat."
The fourth dimension magical engines activated, and the view outside suddenly became a sea of blue colors. Alvin immediately felt sick and found it hard to keep his balance. He looked at his hand, which now seemed to have several of them. Finally, he fell on his butt, trying his best to get used to that feeling.
Milia had gone through this in the past, but she didn't feel much better. She took a seat by the side and took a deep breath, just waiting for it to be over. As for Nori, Familiar Souls are also affected by the Fourth Dimensional Travel, so he had to stay on Milia's lap for the time being.
All around, the Maguses and Familiars seemed to be in the same positions. Some were faring better than others due to experience, but none of them were completely immune. Only the crew of the spaceship seemed unconcerned, having gone through this event many times.
"Oh! So this is how the Fourth Dimension Engines work..." Yet, there was one guy completely fine. Naturally, it was Linfel, who seemed very interested in the hyperspace outside. "It is quite different from the time Horan brought me around."
Alvin tried to not puke right there and then while asking. "Ho-How.... ugh... how was it back in your... time?"
Linfel's memories went to the past. "It was always Horan who did the journey while I simply tagged along. Back then, primordial energy allowed for Space-Bending. I believe you understand the theory. It is like the wormholes you mentioned, but it could be created at will. Magic Energy might be able to achieve the same thing, but you would truly need a huge amount of it.
After all, Magic Energy is a lot weaker. I wonder if there are any spaceships out there that can do that. With the right runes, perhaps."
Alvin, Milia, and Nori were surprised. It was basically the theory of folding space and passing through when the two sides touch. The wormholes did that, but they didn't expect the experts from the past could do that as well. Even more impressive, Linfel seemed convinced it might be possible to be done nowadays. Could that be true?
The asteroid was on a nearby solar system, which everyone was brought to. The journey lasted only fifteen minutes with the fourth-dimensional travel, though. Alvin then tried to get up to look outside, still feeling a little sick. Finally, he was able to see the asteroid up close. "So big... I saw it in the live stream, but isn't this stage a little too big for the exam?
Even with the twenty thousand remaining participants, it might take forever to end as there are just too many places to hide and run."
"We don't even know what is the fourth test about yet," Linfel shook his head. "Let's wait and see. Besides..." Linfel looked in another direction. Suddenly, many spaceships began to come out of hyperspace, just like their own did a few seconds ago. "I don't think we are alone."
Alvin swallowed hard. Spaceships kept coming out, all of them carrying the emblem of the Ventis Sect. On Alvin's field of view alone he could count more than two hundred, and he couldn't see the other side of the asteroid. "Could it be..."
Linfel nodded. "You don't think the Ventis Sect would make it easy, right? No doubt, they are gathering all the participants who passed the third test on various planets in the nearby solar systems. Considering the size of the Ventis Sect Territory, I would have done the same."
Linfel looked excited. "There is a lot of fun still."
