Chapter 1213 - Counterbalance
Chapter 1213: Counterbalance
The two arrived at the Divine Light Basilica. Sun Mingyue sat in the chair and stared quietly at her. “Du Ying, you still have to bring Zhao Dahe back here.”
“Saint...” Du Ying said hastily.
Sun Mingyue waved her hand. “The rules are the rules.”
“Didn’t you tell Senior Brother Deng that you won’t punish Junior Brother Zhao!?” Du Ying asked.
“I’m just messing with him,” Sun Mingyue said. “Do you really think I won’t punish Zhao Dahe just because of his words?”
“Senior Brother Deng wasn’t inconvenienced greatly at all.”
“Who says he wasn’t?”
Du Ying looked at her suspiciously.
Sun Mingyue shook her head. “Zhao Dahe has gone overboard this time and injured Deng Datong’s roots. Even if the latter has recovered, I’m afraid he won’t be able to do anything for a long time.”
Du Ying asked, “Are you serious?”
“His attack was neither soft nor strong. It’s obvious that he’s trying to destroy Deng Datong’s roots!” Sun Mingyue scoffed.
Du Ying was silent for a brief moment before voicing out once more. “You can’t blame Junior Brother Zhao for being cruel. Senior Brother Deng was simply too despicable.”
“Alright, let’s not discuss this any further. Summon him over now.” Sun Mingyue gestured with her jade-like hand.
“Yes...” Du Ying nodded as she did not speak further.
She knew that Saint would be angry if she spoke further and it would simply be asking for trouble.
Sun Mingyue pondered as she watched Du Ying’s elegant figure leaving the Divine Light Basilica.
This scene was rather familiar as she had already used a woman to ensnare a man once; using Li Ruolan to trap Zhao Dahe. It was comparable to controlling a frenzied dragon with ropes. Since it was extremely effective, Sun Mingyue planned to do it again.
Du Ying and Li Ruolan were similar in personality but they looked different on the outside. They were both mature, calm, kind, and it was clear as day if they hated or loved someone. They would not hide their emotions at all and this type of girl was able to enter Zhao Dahe’s heart easily.
Now, it was whether Du Ying could enter Zhao Dahe’s heart. Their paths would be much easier if she succeeded.
Sun Mingyue shook her head and sighed as she had to put in so much effort just to be able to control Zhao Dahe. The current situation was rather dire as she was still not able to completely control him. Sun Mingyue could not order him to do what she wanted and she needed desperate measures only to be able to force him to move.
Fortunately, he was worth the effort. Zhao Dahe’s martial arts far surpassed the average person. Although he was only a Branch Leader, his martial art cultivation was no weaker than the Altar Leader or even the Priest. Furthermore, he was extremely smart as well. People were often deceived by Zhao Dahe’s looks and thought that he was just another idiot who did not know how to strategize and would only brawl. Hence, they were always at a disadvantage because of this.
...
Chu Li was training in his own home when Du Ying arrived at Gale City. Kou Qiong personally escorted her to the courtyard, greeted her and stood quietly inside the courtyard.
Du Ying looked at Kou Qiong discreetly.
Kou Qiong looked extremely old, so much so that he seemed to be at least one hundred years old. He was incredibly skilled in martial arts and his cultivation level was incredibly high. If he was from the Holy Church of Light, he would have been cultivating at the fourth peak and enjoying his life. Kou Qiong would not have to reveal himself so often in public.
He and the other two had relearned their martial arts from Chu Li himself ever since they arrived at Gale City and this caused their cultivation level to soar quickly.
It was not like Chu Li wanted to reward them, he purely wanted to be lazy. If their martial arts were weak, they would have caused trouble to him every once in a while. If they were strong enough, they would be able to handle the matters on their own and Chu Li did not need to step up to help them.
Kou Qiong stood in the little courtyard as he maintained his greeting posture. Du Ying was so curious that she wanted to ask what he was doing. However, Kou Qiong placed his finger by his lips, gesturing her to be quiet.
Du Ying was curious.
Kou Qiong pointed into the house and stopped moving once more.
Du Ying felt bad by his behavior and did not dare to speak up anymore. Hence, she decided to wait together with him.
Soon, Chu Li’s voice could be heard. “What’s the matter?”
“Lord, Madam Du from the Holy Church of Light has arrived, “Kou Qiong immediately responded respectfully.
“Senior Sister Du, come in,” Chu Li said.
Kou Qiong gestured Du Ying to enter.
Du Ying shook her head and smiled as she did not expect Junior Brother Zhao to have such a skilled master behaving so respectfully. It was obvious that Kou Qiong’s respect came from his heart and did not act for the sake of acting. Du Ying was incredibly curious as to how Junior Brother Zhao managed to achieve this.
Kou Qiong left the place softly when Du Ying entered the house.
Chu Li was sitting on the floor as he looked at her calmly. He fist saluted. “Senior Sister Du, are there any instructions from the Saint?”
“The Saint has summoned you,” Du Ying said.
Chu Li frowned. “I have to go back again?”
“It isn’t something good this time.” Du Ying sighed. “You’ve greatly injured Senior Brother Deng, Saint wants to punish you.”
“Is he dead?” Chu Li scoffed.
Du Ying shook his head. “Senior Brother Deng won’t die this easily.”
Chu Li smiled. “It’s fine if he’s alive. It’s not considered killing each other, right? Why would the Saint want to punish me?”
“He’s almost dead.” Du Ying sighed. “Senior Brother Deng’s injury has worsened, it’s hard to tell if he’s dead or alive if Saint didn’t step up.”
“Hmm...” Chu Li nodded. “Fine, I’ll follow you.”
Du Ying sighed. “Junior Brother Zhao, I’m sure you must hate seeing me. It’s always bad news whenever I look for you.”
Chu Li laughed as he shook his head.
He could tell that Du Ying was pure and kind. She was the type of person who knew how to differentiate love and hate instead of having an unconditional tolerance. She was his type and he did not hate her at all. In fact, he found it relaxing when he interacted with her.
“Alright.” Du Ying smiled. “Junior Brother Zhao, is this your so-called idea? You’ve critically injured Senior Brother Deng to the point where he could not achieve his military order?”
“What do you mean?” Chu Li smiled.
“You’re quite evil and your measures are drastic!” Du Ying smiled.
Chu Li nodded. “Senior Brother Deng wasn’t as strong as I expected. Did you guys not find a master to treat his wound? It’s still theoretically treatable!”
“Senior Brother Deng isn’t liked by many and no masters are willing to help him out,” Du Ying said.
Chu Li stood up and left his place together with Du Ying as they glided towards Divine Light Basilica.
The two chatted happily along the way and they soon arrived at Divine Light Basilica.
It was already evening and the Divine Light Basilica was lit up by the evening sun. The snow at Great Light Peak reflected the sunlight into the basilica, causing the place to be lit up brightly. This was how the Divine Light Basilica got its name.
Sun Mingyue was standing at the corner of the basilica when Chu Li entered the place. She seemed to be in deep thought as she looked at him with her beautiful eyes as if she was trying to see through his thoughts.
Chu Li fist saluted. “Saint, tell me. How are you going to punish me this time?”
“I’ll punish you by ordering you to kill Li Hanyan,” Sun Mingyue said.
Chu Li frowned. “I won’t kill Li Hanyan on his behalf. I know that he’ll still get the credit even if I kill Li Hanyan. I’m basically helping him finish his military order.”
“That’s right. If you kill Li Hanyan, I’ll take it as you didn’t injure Deng Datong,” Sun Mingyue said.
Chu Li said, “You should just punish me directly instead!”
“You’ll still be the Branch Leader of the Gale Branch,” Sun Mingyue said indifferently. “You still have to kill someone else to counterbalance this incident.”
“Saint, as far as I know, the Church doesn’t allow someone to do another thing to counterbalance their credits, no matter how big the contribution was,” Chu Li said.
“Some cases are allowed,” Sun Mingyue said. “You can’t just sum them up as one. You can do another thing to fulfill your mistake since you didn’t cause a huge incident this time.”
“Who do you want me to kill?” Chu Li scoffed.
Sun Mingyue said, “Liang Yinge.”
