Chapter 11 - ELLENA'S CRYING
"Elle, I'm sorry, I can't help you. I'm sure you'll be able to deal with all these problems well. Please, don't cry anymore!" Filia embraced Ellena's body again, after she learned all about her best friend's problems.
"Yes, Filia, I see. Thank you for worrying about me and for being willing to listen to my story." She stroked Ellena's back again by Filia.
Filia tried her best to block the clear crystal that had filled the corner of her eyes. She seemed to be the most useless friend right now. When Ellena was in the middle of a slump, she couldn't help her at all. What kind of friend is she, her thought.
However, even so, she will still be by Ellena's side, just to accompany her to tell stories, to listen to her every complaint, especially when Ellena has become her boss's contract wife.
"Then what about your mother and sister? Don't you intend to tell them?" Filia let go of the hug again, then looked seriously at Ellena's face.
Ellena just shook her head. She was confused, whether to tell them or not.
"I don't know, I'm confused, Filia." Ellena looked down wearily.
"Shouldn't your mother be told this?" asked Filia.
"If you know about this, then what excuse should I give? Meanwhile, you know that the only man I really love is Keenan. Besides, Keenan is a good man and always makes time to visit my mother at home every week, I know that," Ellena explained, frowning.
"Yes, I see, but your mother still needs to know about your marriage, whatever the reason." Filia grabbed Selena's hand, then held it.
"If your mother worries later, what will I do? Should I lie, if I and Keenan don't have any relationship?" Ellena looked doubtfully at Filia's face.
"It's up to you how, obviously your mother should know. I'm sure you know what you have to do." Filia nodded her head slowly, as a sign for Ellena to do as she suggested.
Ellena seemed to be silent for a while, thinking about Filia's suggestion. Filia's words were true. After all, her mother had to know about her marriage to Lucas. However, she still will not ask his mother to be present at the wedding. Considering her family's social status with Lucas's family, it is very much different. Not out of shame. She just didn't want her family to be ostracized by big people like them. Because, for them, appearance is also very calculated.
"Okay. Looks like you're right, I did have to tell mom about the wedding." Anna grabbed her cell phone which was on the nightstand beside her bed.
"But, what about Keenan?" Ellena gave up, when she was just about to look up her mother's contact name on her cell phone.
"I think your mother can be compromised," replied Filia casually.
Apparently, Ellena immediately understood Filia's meaning.
"Okay." Ellena seemed to put the phone to her ear.
"I'm going to the kitchen to prepare our dinner," said Filia who only got a nod from Ellena.
"Hello, Mom," said Ellena, after her mother received a phone call from her.
"Elle, how are you? Why are you only calling mom now?" Briana's voice sounded very happy to receive a call from her daughter.
"I'm fine, Mom. Mom and Martin how are you?" Ellena slightly forced her smile. However, her eyes seemed to glaze over. It was very hard to tell her mother about the marriage.
"Sorry, I just called Mom again. I have a lot of work, so I rarely have time to contact Mom," she explained lying.
Ellena had not contacted her mother for three days. However, not because she was busy at work, but because of his problems with Lucas which made him reluctant to contact her mother. She didn't want to suddenly be unable to contain her emotions, and then cry while talking to Briana, her mother.
Yes, even now she was trying hard to hold back his tears and sobs, so as not to make her mother worry about him.
"You must be very tired. I'm sorry, Elle. If only I could—"
"Never mind, Mom, don't worry too much about me. Besides, the debt will be paid off as soon as possible," Ellena interrupted.
"That much debt, how can we pay it off quickly?" Briana seemed to not believe her daughter's words.
"After this, I will pay off everything, Mom," Ellena replied with a slight smile.
"Where did you get that much money, Elle?" Briana raised her voice a little, of course because she was surprised by her daughter's words that she would suddenly pay off her late husband's large debt.
Instead of answering Briana's question, Ellena was silent for a while, which made her mother feel surprised.
"Elle, you didn't answer mom's question?"
Briana's voice immediately made Ellena gasp, then ended her daydream.
"My future husband, Mom," Ellena hissed while shedding tears that could no longer be contained.
Ellena immediately took the phone away from her ear, then wiped the tears again. For a few seconds, he tried to neutralize her feelings, not even caring about her mother who had been talking to her.
Meanwhile, in front of the room, there was Filia who had been watching Ellena. Filia's heart seemed to be stabbed to see her best friend crying like that. Unknowingly, tears were falling slowly.
If she could help Ellena to pay for Lucas' car, she might have done it without being asked. Too bad it was too much for her. Given the economic conditions that are also mediocre, making it unable to do much, other than strengthen.
"Yes, ma'am?" asked Ellena, having managed to neutralize her feelings.
"Why are you silent? Are you referring to the future husband, Keenan?"
Ellena had expected that her mother would think that the person she was referring to was Keenan. It felt like she wanted to scream right then and there. Letting out all her anger, before explaining to her mother. However, it was not done at all. She's just trying to keep all her secrets.
"No, Mom," Selena whispered.
"Then, who are you referring to? Why did you suddenly mention your future husband to a man other than Keenan? Wasn't the only man you loved was Keenan, but why did it suddenly change this time? Did you deliberately betray your lover?"
Briana asked a series of questions without pause. She was really curious about the future husband that Ellena meant. If not Keenan, then who? She thought.
Again, Elena couldn't hold back her tears. Yes, maybe what her mother said was true, that she had betrayed her Beloved. However, until this moment only Keenan became the owner of her heart.
Ellena couldn't possibly explain this to her mother, because she would be very sad and guilty if found out that she married because of a mistake and also because of money.
"He's my boss, Mom," Ellena answered hoarsely.
"Are you crying?" Briana asked as she noticed Ellena's hoarse voice.. "Has something happened to you, Elle? why are you suddenly marrying your boss? Don't tell mom you married just for money?" he added.
