Chapter 404: I practice to defeat my past self, not a stranger
*Swoosh* *Swoosh*
Two arrows were shot at the same time. Both of them are aiming at a single target and both of the arrows did hit the target at 10 point mark. However, the first to strike was the arrow on the left, which belongs to Wil.
*Whistle*
Ma Ling blew the whistle and announced, "Point to Williard, 4-0."
"Point to Williard, 5-0"
"Point to Williard, 6-0"
"Point to Williard, 7-0"
"Point to Williard, 8-0"
.
.
.
"Point to Williard, 19-0"
Hyori's mom, Mia, and Ma Ling were looking at Wil in a daze. They never expected Wil to dominate Hyori. Meanwhile, Hyori looked dispirited.
As she raised the bow once again, Wil spoke, "what happened, Trainer Hyo? The speed of your arrows was getting slower and slower."
"No, they are not. You are the one who is getting faster." Ma Ling muttered under his breath.
Meanwhile, Hyori didn't answer him and pulled the string, waiting for the whistle.
"Point to Williard, 20-0"
"Only five points left for me to win but you have yet to open your score." Wil continued to taunt her. "If you are this much weak, then, it's obvious that you can't defeat Fujimori Sakura and the gap will only widen in the future."
"What is this guy doing? Trying to rile her up?" Everyone wondered as they saw a frustrated look on Hyori with her face becoming red.
"Point to Williard, 21-0"
Do you know why I'm stronger than you? Not because of some talent or being a man. I only train to improve myself not to defeat someone else,"
"Point to Williard, 22-0"
"How can you beat me when you can't even defeat yourself?"
"Point to Williard, 23-0"
By then, even Wil was getting frustrated that his gamble isn't working. Will it break her? He was a bit worried but he couldn't stop it either. He almost roared at her this time, "Why do you practice and improve yourself, Hyori? To win some tournament? To win against some stranger? Or because you love Archery?"
His dozen taunts didn't work on her but a simple question made her realize something. Frustrated Hyori closed her eyes.
*Whistle*
Wil shot the twenty-fourth arrow but Hyori didn't yet and still closed her eyes. Just at the moment, Ma Ling was about to announce the result, Hyori was seen grabbing the tip of the arrow with all her fingers, shooting it at the target.
To Wil's surprise, the arrow cut through the air like a lightning bolt and pierced his arrow from behind. It was embedded two inches.
Ma Ling gasped in surprise as the speed of her arrow was almost in the same level as Wil, who is deemed only as a monstrous talent in his eyes.
"Point to Williard, 24-0"
As the master archer announced the score while taking out the arrows, a smile appeared on Hyori as she opened her eyes. "That's right. How did I miss this?"
Wil nodded to himself that his gamble has been worked. Upon hearing the whistle, he shot the arrow, aiming at just outside the ten-point ring as he doesn't wish to end the match right then.
But, he didn't expect that Hyori, who regained a little bit of confidence from her last power shot, managed to strike the target almost at the same time as Wil, just a millisecond behind. But, Wil's arrow landed on 9 points while Hyori's landed in a ten-point circle.
"Point to Hyori, 24-1"
"Your shot was off, Wil." For the first time in twenty-five shots, Hyori spoke out.
Wil shrugged his shoulders, "not a big deal. I'm way ahead of you and if this was a real match, I would have won by now, anyway."
"Let's see about that."
"Point to Hyori, 24-2" The next shot was here both of them struck at the same time but Wil held back in his strength. So, this time, his arrow was struck a bit late, giving a point to Hyori and increasing her confidence.
After that, Wil used a different trick of shooting an arrow a bit late than her. Then, later, he used bullish power but aiming at 9 point circle. This way, Wil lost points one after the other.
Mia and Hyori's mother thought Wil is getting pressured by Hyori now that the latter seemed to reach her peak. However, it didn't fool a Master Archer's eyes. Ma Ling clearly could read Wil's mind.
First rile up, then, build the confidence. But, it only worked because it's Hyori. Ma Ling was sure that if it is someone else, their spirits would have broken down by now.
In his eyes, even if Hyori trains for hundred years, she couldn't defeat someone like Wil. In his whole life, he never saw a person who could become this much of a monster in just two months. In those months, Wil hardly visited the training center four times.
As for playing in the game, he personally experienced it. So, he can tell that playing War Online will improve one's focus tremendously and to some extent, a few techniques but that's it.
The bodies that they were given were adaptable to any kind of stunt a player can do. They were strong enough that one can experience their maximum limit. However, the bodies in real life cannot follow with the things they want to do.
This is why when he first saw Wil's Archery practice, he believed that Wil who has an advantage over Hyori regarding gender and a huge internal strength eventually surpasses her in the future. But, he didn't expect the day would come this sooner.
The match continued until Hyori raked up 12 points in a row and not intending to make her feel suspicious, Wil ended the match with the perfect ten.
"Point to Williard, 25-12. Williard wins."
As Ma Ling declared the results, Hyori turned to look at him for a moment and step forward and then, hugged him tightly, taking everyone by surprise, especially her mother.
But, there was no romantic feeling in that hug. It was only filled with gratefulness and only lasted for a couple of seconds, "Thank you." Unknown to Wil, she also realized Wil went easy on her during the later rounds.
As they separated, Hyori gripped her arrow tightly and apologized to her mother for making her worry.
....
....
. Thank you.
