Chapter 103
103 THE HOUSEKEEPER SPIDER
Bai Chen knew that everyone had a different character, and even a pair of twins with the same face would have a different character as well.
Even in his previous life, when there was a car accident on the road, people did not react the same. Some of them would immediately run toward the victim while calling 122[1] immediately, but some people would just look at the victim from afar without doing anything.
There were several reasons why people chose to watch silently without doing anything. The first reason was that they were too afraid of the accident, and the second reason was that they simply didn’t care.
For the second reason, people might think that the accident was none of their business, and they assumed that it would be best if they stayed away from it to avoid trouble.
Bai Chen knew the two reasons behind such an act, but when Wu Jinhai asked him to hide behind a large tree while the two of them were observing what was happening in front of them, he knew that the reason behind the man’s actions was not because the man was too afraid of what was happening before their eyes.
Instead of feeling scared, Bai Chen thought that the man simply didn’t want to care about what was happening in front of them.
Perhaps Bai Chen shouldn’t have cared too much since his main priority was saving himself, but he couldn’t even move his feet to find a better hiding place when he saw that kind of accident happening before his eyes.
It was not a car accident that happened often in his previous life, but it was much worse than that.
His blue eyes could see how a giant spider was fighting with several people wearing green robes. His eyes could also see the leaf pattern on the robes, and he remembered seeing them when he was still in Rongyao Imperial Palace.
.....
Bai Chen could see how the people were using their swords against the giant spider, but it seemed they were having a hard time. Bai Chen was worried because he knew that the spider was not just an ordinary spider he had seen so often in his previous life. Not only was it much larger, but it also looked stronger and fiercer.
Even people who looked strong had a hard time defeating the beast, and Bai Chen bit his lip nervously as he turned to Wu Jinhai. “Don’t you want to help them, Your Highness? They will die if you don’t help them,” he spoke to the man.
Yes. Bai Chen did use ‘you’ instead of ‘we’ because he knew that he would only be a burden if he insisted on helping those people. He was different from Wu Jinhai, who appeared as a strong person since they had met each other for the first time half an hour ago, and that was why he had placed the responsibility of helping out on the masked man’s shoulders.
Hearing his voice that sounded terrified, Wu Jinhai finally turned to him. “Why should I help them?” He asked instead of answering. “Those people are from the Sacred Leaf Sect, and they should be able to take on the low-level beast.”
Bai Chen didn’t know anything about the sects in the Wu Li Empire, so he didn’t know what kind of sect the Sacred Leaf was. He was indeed curious about the sect, but he was more focused on information about the low-level beast.
He only knew that werewolves were categorized on several levels, but he did not know that the beasts in the Forbidden Forest were the same.
Turning his head forward again, Bai Chen furrowed his brows as he observed how the people were fighting the giant spider. He could see the spider moving its eight legs against people, but apart from that movement, he didn’t see any other lethal techniques that could kill humans.
Bai Chen thought that the spider had no weapons against humans, but he was wrong when he saw how the spider suddenly spouted something white from its mouth, and those objects immediately wrapped around the humans’ bodies, causing them to appear like a cocoon in the blink of an eye.
Bai Chen gasped as he turned to Wu Jinhai. “You said that the spider was weak, but it was able to subdue the cultivators?” He asked in disbelief.
Previously, the two of them had heard the screams of a girl, and Bai Chen could see that some girls from the sect had indeed fought the beast. Perhaps one of them was the one who caught their attention then, but he didn’t bother looking for that person because he knew that the situation was quite dangerous right now.
He was nervous, but then he could hear Wu Jinhai tsk-ed before turning to him once again. “The spider is indeed weak,” he replied. “The giant spider is called the Housekeeper Spider because it will only stay in its cobwebs and even try to make it as beautiful as possible. The beast is also very shy and will not attack people if the people do not harm its cobwebs first. Now the spider is angry that its house was destroyed, so it’s better if we let the humans become a new cobweb for it.”
Bai Chen widened his blue eyes. He had received new information about the low-level beast, and it was probably true that the beast was indeed harmless if humans did not intrude on its home.
But now the beast looked extremely angry toward humans, and Bai Chen couldn’t believe his ears when he heard from Wu Jinhai that it would turn humans into cobwebs.
Bai Chen was frightened, but he still turned his head forward again. Silently, he saw how the giant spider was spewing a white object from its mouth into the space between the two large trees, and in Bai Chen’s eyes, the beast was like Spiderman making a cobweb with his hands.
A few minutes passed, and Bai Chen could see a perfect cobweb between the two large trees, but it seemed that the spider had not finished making a new home.
Using its mouth, the spider bit the side of the human cocoon and carried the human to the cobweb. The spider then attached the human cocoon to the cobweb before repeating what it did with the other cocoons it just made.
Bai Chen couldn’t believe what he saw, and he once again asked Wu Jinhai, “Did the humans die?”
The humans were inside the cocoons made by the spiders, and Bai Chen didn’t see any movements at all. He was worried, but all he heard from his side was laughter. When he turned his head to the side, he could see Wu Jinhai’s shoulders shaking from his laughter.
“What’s so funny?” The Werewolf Prince angrily questioned the man when he realized that the man was laughing at him now.
He even assumed that Wu Jinhai might see him as an idiot now.
“You’re so funny. The cocoons are strong, but they’re not poisonous. The humans are still alive now,” Wu Jinhai replied, and Bai Chen almost breathed a sigh of relief if the man didn’t continue, “However, the cocoons are extremely dense, and won’t let air pass through. If humans stay in the cocoons for too long, they’ll eventually die.”
Bai Chen gritted his teeth to suppress his anger. Wu Jinhai still looked calm despite knowing the fact that what the spider did could still endanger human lives.
Even if the humans were still alive now, they would die if no one helped them to free them from the cocoons. If Wu Jinhai was still unwilling to help, then those humans would probably lose their lives in this forest.
“You must save them, Your Highness,” Bai Chen spoke, and he even sounded like he was begging. “I know they were at fault for destroying the spider house, but you can’t let them die in vain.”
Bai Chen knew that he shouldn’t mind other people’s business, but his heart still felt bad when he saw how humans were suffering because of the spider. He continued to frown at the masked man, and the man also had his face directly facing him, but he couldn’t see the man’s expression at all.
“Even if you begged me to save them, I wouldn’t be able to do that,” Wu Jinhai replied, and this time, he even spoke to Bai Chen solemnly.
However, Bai Chen didn’t think much of it as he asked, “Why can’t you help them? You know a lot about the spider, and you’re also very strong, right?”
Bai Chen indeed couldn’t see Wu Jinhai’s expression, but for some reason, he could see the amusement in the man’s eyes as the man replied, “I really can’t help them, but you can because Wu Jiang is now in your hands. Regular swords won’t be able to destroy the cocoon immediately, but Wu Jiang can do it in one slash. So, do you want to do it with the sword in your hand, Bai Chen?”
