Chapter 69 Night Slayer
Arthur knew that the condition to go to the next main settlement was to reach the level 10, but there were some additional things that were needed.
First of all, the players didn't even know that there was a town near the village. They wouldn't be told that there was something like this even if they hit level 10. Only when they were informed by certain NPCs would they realize that they could actually get to the next settlement.
And even then they had no idea that they could actually obtain a class after that. All this was the knowledge that was only obtained after one reached the first town.
The towns were made in such a way that most of them were located near the newbie villages. Of course, even if they were 'near' the villages they were still a few hours away. In order to reach the town, one needed to be strong enough and also have permission from the village chief.
There were in fact individuals that managed to reach the town before they ever hit level 10.
These people talked with the NPCs at the entrance and were denied right away. They were forced to go back, as they didn't have the right documents to enter the town. It was the same as a bandit asking to be let into a town. There was no guarantee the person wasn't bad.
Thus it wasn't unusual for this to happen. Of course right now even if there were players that liked to explore, most of them hadn't appeared in the game yet. It was still day two, and the complexity of Morpheus Online hadn't spread yet.
But when it would, the response would be simply insane.
"Seems like we have a brave adventurer on our hands… Congratulations!" Village Elder Eneba spoke.
His face held genuine surprise while his hands lightly trembled.
"I never would have thought we would have someone like you so quickly," Eneba said before turning to his desk. "For this, you are qualified." He took out a parchment of paper.
Arthur watched as the Village Head wrote a couple of words on it before signing it.
"Take this… This is your writ of entry into Roran town." Village Head Eneba stated.
"Thank you, village head." Arthur replied.
>Player Arzhur has obtained a Writ of Entry!<
>Player Arzhur is now eligible to enter Roran Town<
>Player Arzhur is now eligible to obtain a class!<
"I don't think I've seen anyone that was as fast as you. Even the children that grew up here took years before they were able to do the same." Eneba stated a hint of melancholy in his eyes.
"I see… Well, I hope the others can do it too." Arthur replied.
"Indeed… but for now, we have other things to attend to." Eneba said before clenching his fist. "If a bandit chief is involved, I don't think the things are as simple as I thought." He spoke.
Arthur too became serious appropriately waiting for the man to continue.
"For a Bandit chief to send people this far… It is unnatural. They have little to get here. Even if they attack the village itself, I do not think they would like to threaten their own existence. The guards might be passive, but they for sure are stronger than the bandits.
Besides… Their intentions toward the village might be seen as an offense to Resident Mage Bernard. That is not a man whom you want to threaten." Village Elder Eneba stated, a hint of anger flashing on his face.
Arthur could sense a few more hidden contentions in it that could be normally felt. His experience with the NPCs over his past life was helping him, as he knew just how honest and true the NPC's reactions could be.
He knew the man was truly upset. But he also knew the power that the village head held.
One might think the NPCs in a newbie village were simple and weak, but it was the opposite. Even players from a city might find it difficult to fight a simple guard from a newbie village.
In many cases, the guards from a village were stronger than the other settlements. The same applied for the other NPCs.
Arthur knew the Village head wasn't simple either.
>Inspect failed!<
Arthur tried to use the skill on the village head and found it to fail instantly.
Something like this only happened when the NPC was a lot stronger than the player. Or the fact that the NPC had a skill that prevented one from prying into their information. Either of the scenarios were dangerous and the players needed to be careful.
'Just as I thought. The NPC's in the Kestrel village isn't simple either.' Arthur reckoned.
He waited for the man to gather his emotions and speak.
"Sigh! It seems like I'll have to burden you with another task." The Village Head said.
"Of course, I do not mind it Village Head Eneba." Arthur said with confidence.
"Very well. I wish for you to inform this to Resident Mage Bernard and then head to the Roran Town and inform the Town Captain there. They need to be made aware that the Bandit Chief has sent his people here.
Besides, the Resident Mage needs to know about these… Insane beasts and anything related to the ruins. He's emphasized that to me several times to me over the years. If I don't send you to him, he'll probably turn my grandchildren bald too!" The village chief said in a slightly frantic voice.
"As you wish, Village Chief!" Arthur replied.
>Quest Issued<
——
Quest: Talk to the Residence Mage Bernard and the captain of the Roran Town about the Bandits and their actions.
Grade: Uncommon
Difficulty: Intermediate
Reward: Coins, experience.
——
Seeing the quest Arthur was a bit surprised.
'They are actually offering experience? That is rare…' Arthur thought.
Normally the quests that offered bonuses directly were not common. Most of the quests gave experience through the path of the quest itself. It would either be through the means of killing enemies or obtaining certain items.
Very rarely would a quest offer direct quest experience like this.
'I'm sure there was no mention of this in the forums either… is this a limited quest?' Arthur was getting more and more sure of it.
The more he learned about the situation now, the more he realized that there were possibly tons of events and quests that had been missed out in his past life. This was either due to the oversight of the players or simply due to many of them not logging in at the right time.
Whatever it might be, Arthur was now befitting from it and certainly did not regret it.
"I'll do as you say, Village head." Arthur said before taking his leave.
"Wait…" Eneba said just before Arthur reached the door.
"What is it?" Arthur asked.
"I don't know if you will ever meet the person, but if you do, be wary of the Night Slayer." The Village Chief said in a stern voice.
As soon as Arthur heard the name, his face turned cold. Not just that, but his body unconsciously shook, a sliver of anxiety flowing through his body.
'The Night Slayer… How is that person even mentioned this early on?!' Arthur didn't know whether to curse his luck or not.
Night Slayer was one of the NPCs that Arthur definitely did not wish to meet. It didn't matter if it was early on in the game or later on. No matter when one met it, they would simply end up with bad luck.
Night Slayer was one of those NPCs that could only be encountered with luck, or in the current case, Bad luck.
In the best case, the Player would simply be killed by the Night Slayer and be forced to respawn. This would result in the loss of experience and play time, but nothing major.
But the other cases were far different.
Players could end up getting debuffs that would simply not go away. They would need great dispelling spells that would not be viable for a long time. The players who had encountered the Night Slayer in Arthur's last life had regretted it greatly.
The majority of them had simply chosen to either quit playing on their current accounts or paid a lot to get the debuff removed.
It was a misfortune that one didn't wish for even in their dreams.
This was exactly why Arthur was regretting it even more.
'Fuck, fuck fuck! Now that the village head has said its name, the encounter rate has certainly increased by a lot!' Arthur secretly gritted his teeth.
It was not something that he wished for to happen, but didn't have a way to rectify it at all.
All he could do now was to plan well and bet on his luck to sway the other way. If not… he might just have to take what fate gave him.
