Chapter 255 Samson City
Chapter 255 Samson City
Arthur went up to the gate and was stopped by the guards as usual.
"Show me your Identity card." The guard asked.
"Of course," Arthur showed them his adventurer's Identity card.
He also had the letter from the Guild Master ready, but the guards were satisfied just by the ID card.
"Hmm, Adventurer Arzhur… Very well head on in." The Guard permitted.
With that, Arthur finally entered the city and got to see its interior.
This was his second time in Samson city as he had come here once in his last life. Though back then, he had only come here briefly and hadn't really explored it as much. Thankfully, he still knew about the places inside and knew where to go.
The sun was setting right now and as such, Arthur still had plenty of time left to do a few tasks till then.
'I should get the letter delivered first. The rest I can do later. After all, getting entry into the Noble district at night will be a lot more difficult.' Arthur thought to himself.
He didn't have the benefit of his reputation here, and as such would have to take the normal routes for the most part.
"First, I gotta find where the Guard Captain is staying," Arthur muttered and went to find a local guard station.
While Guard Captain Fredric had gone to inform the standing army at Samson city, he would have also had to talk with the nobles there. As such, he could be in several places, and Arthur would have to figure out which one.
He hoped that the guards would know about that.
It took him five minutes to reach the nearest guard station which was located at the first major square one would reach after entering the city.
"Hello, I'd like to ask something." Arthur talked to the guards at the station.
This was the place for them to rest in between shift changes, as well as to watch the square as it was an important area with a lot of foot traffic. If any incident happened here, they would have to be quick to respond to it.
"What do you need?" One of the guards responded to Arthur in a slightly irritated tone.
The difference in attitude between the guards of Roran Town and Samson City was quite evident now. It was clear that they did not wish to be disturbed here, but also had the duty to answer the questions of the people.
"I wish to know where Guard Captain Fredric of Roran Town is staying. I have a letter to deliver to him." Arthur replied right away.
"A guard captain from Roran town?" the guard furrowed his brows as if he didn't know. "Berk, do you know what this guy is talking about?" he asked one of his colleagues instead.
"Huh? There's someone from Roran town here?" it didn't seem like Berk knew either.
"They should have come here about ten days ago, along with a large entourage of guards." Arthur reiterated for them.
"Oh wait, those?" Berk finally recognized. "So they were from Roran town, huh? And here I thought they were invited by Baron Selvig." He spoke.
"Baron Selvig? That old hermit?" The first guard was surprised.
"Yeah, I saw it myself. He came down to the gate to meet one of the men himself." Guard Berk replied.
"Huh… That's new. And here I thought that man hated everyone." The first guard muttered.
"Everyone thought so too. But I guess he still has people he talks to. Never would have thought they were a guard captain from Roran town though." Berk stated.
"Do you know where they are staying, then?" Arthur questioned again.
"As far as I know, they went along with Baron Selvig, so it is best you go to his place," Berk answered.
"So they aren't staying at any of the guard barracks or the army barracks?" Arthur asked just to be sure.
"If they were, we'd know for sure," Berk replied.
"Alright, thanks for your help," Arthur said and took his leave. 'Looks like I'll have to head to the Noble District. Thankfully, it is still early enough.' He thought.
Samson City was ruled by Count Samson, but that didn't mean other nobles didn't live in the territory. There were a lot of unranked nobles living here, along with two barons as far as Arthur could recall.
'If a baron is living in the territory of another named noble, it usually means he has lost his own land. He might have the title but no longer has a fiefdom… a landless noble.' Arthur recalled.
He also tried to remember information about the Baron named Selvig, but didn't know much.
'Did he even exist for that long?' Arthur wondered. 'I remember reading about him, but he was dead by the time players actually became common in the city.' He remembered.
This was another NPC that possibly had a limited life left. The only question was whether he would die naturally, or due to something that would happen to him.
'It is hard to tell, considering I've changed a lot of things.' Arthur knew the only way to figure it out was to go and see it directly.
As such, he made his way to the Noble District, which was in the center of the city. The Noble district was built in a circle around the hill on which the main castle stood. A five meter tall separated it from the rest of the city and access to it was limited to only a few kinds of people.
Usually, only guards and people who had business there would be allowed in. But if one had a meeting with the Count, they would be allowed in as well.
"At least the way to the Noble District is straight." Arthur was happy with that.
Since the entire Samson city was built in a circular shape around the hill, there were roads going directly to the center. One barely needed to change directions, and they could walk straight.
