Chapter 129 An Unnerving Disguise
The veil was like a strange entity expanding and covering Arthur's entire body.
It writhed and trembled, wrapping all over Arthur and making him look like a featureless humanoid.
If anyone saw Arthur right now, they would definitely think he was a monster rather than a player for he looked straight out of a horror movie.
The man was not enjoying it either, as it was highly uncomfortable.
'What the hell is this shit!' Arthur couldn't even speak right now with the skin veil covering his face.
It was easily the second most uncomfortable experience he had in the game so far. With the first being none other Thant the time when he had gotten his class.
>Veil of Thousand Skins has been activated. Please choose your new appearance<
Despite the fact that Arthur's eyes were covered right now, he could still see the notification in front of him. Or more accurately it was something that had appeared in his mind itself!
~shua~
The notification shifted to a larger window that showed several figures on it.
'It's asking me to choose from these?' Arthur was a bit confused as he had thought that he could change it as needed.
He scrolled through the characters that were available and was surprised by the sheer number of them.
'How many are there even?' Arthur had lost count after the first hundred or so characters.
There were different characters available belonging to several races.
It was astonishing to Arthur as he knew how difficult it was to change the race in Morpheus Online. The player were almost all humans since they were said to be the protagonists. But it didn't mean there were no other races.
There were many famous races like the elves, the dwarfs, the mermen and more. The player could change into these races as well, as long as they were able to complete the appropriate quest. Of course, these were also quite rare and almost all of them were Epic Ranked quests.
Having certain races was also the requirement to trigger certain hidden class quests.
Thus there was no lack of players wanting to obtain one. Of course, there were disadvantages too, since certain races had conflicts with humans in general or with certain powers. Hence one needed to be careful and aware of the choices that one would have to make after getting the race.
But now, all of that was a joke since Arthur saw multiple races available to him.
While they might just be a temporary illusion, they would still be more than enough to obtain a lot of benefits.
'Forest Elves, Dark Elves, High Elves, Mountain Dwarfs, Crimson Dwarfs, Gnomes, Verkans, Beastkins… all of them fell to Loki's tricks huh…' Arthur understood that each character that was available to disguise as with the veil was a person that had tried to trick Loki and had failed miserably.
As much as Arthur was excited about being able to switch to a different race's appearance, it was not the time for him to do so.
'Is there no option to make a custom appearance?' Arthur wondered.
>Custom appearance selected<
But that was the trigger that was needed for the veil to react. The window rapidly scrolled to the very end of the list, where the option to make a custom character appearance was present.
~SHUA~
Arthur felt his surroundings change and he appeared in a familiar environment.
"huu~I can breathe again… thats good." Arthur was back in his normal form.
He looked at the featureless avatar standing in front of him and knew that he was in the character creation screen.
"I guess I have the limitation of choosing a human only if I take the custom option," Arthur muttered before getting to modifying the avatar.
He changed the hair to be long and blonde, and the eyes to be vibrant green. The body was tuned to be muscular, while the height was raised to 200 centimeters.
'If I am to make a new disguise, may as well make it as different as possible from my original.' Arthur thought.
He wasn't as worried about the vast difference between his real body and the new avatar either due to his hidden stat. Synchronization had made it so that his avatar body would still work perfectly with him.
And Arthur had a significant belief that it would work regardless of the character's size and design.
After all, the normal synchronization for players was far below what Arthur had.
'Only one way to test it.' Arthur was a lot more willing, as he knew he could always revert.
A couple minutes later was done finalizing the details and the new avatar was complete.
>Confirm the appearance of the disguise?<
"Yes!" Arthur responded.
>Would you like to give it a new name?<
"Hmm… what should it be…" Arthur thought about it before coming up with one.
"Gabriel," Arthur stated.
>Disguise shall be named 'Gabriel'<
With the name picked, another notification appeared. It was also the one that Arthur was interested in the most.
>Pick a class for the character 'Gabriel'<
~DING~
——
Available classes:
1. Warrior
2. Swordsman
3. Mage
4. Thief
5. Shield Bearer
6. Archer
Warning: The class will only be for appearance and no change will happen to the player's skills.
——
"Just as I thought. It's just a 'cosmetic' change for the class." Arthur muttered. "Though it's offering six common classes at least."
One thing that did surprise Arthur was the fact that there was no healer class like a priest in the list.
'Is it due to the fact that a healer like a priest needs to have an affiliation with a god's church for it to work?' Arthur wondered.
Priests were one of the first classes that could have affiliation and interaction with the gods. After all, their powers were obtained through the god's grace and also included the limitations with it.
While there were no particular restrictions on which god's church could one become a priest of, it was usually the gods of the benevolent kind.
'Guess even the veil has limitations like that.' Arthur thought to himself.
Still, it was fine for him, as the six options were more than enough for the most part.
"I pick Warrior." Arthur stated after considering his equipment.
While he knew that he could pick any class, he also had to consider his current equipment to make it look convincing.
Everyone would be suspicious of a mage that was using a spear or a swordsman who was using a shield.
'I have the armor pieces and weapons that warriors can use. It is the most fitting option.' Arthur thought.
After all, while Dietrich was a class exclusive weapon for the Dragomancers, it still didn't change the fact that it was a spear. And unless the others knew about its limitations, they would just think it was some rare weapon.
Plus Arthur also used the Black Tear Short sword which would still be fitting of a warrior.
The warrior class was the basic melee class that could use a lot of weapons, including swords, axes, shields, spears and hammers. They couldn't use ranged weapons or short-reach bladed weapons like daggers and knives, though.
It was a popular class and was something that a lot of players picked.
And considering the muscular bulky appearance that Arthur had picked for his disguise, it was a perfect fit.
>Disguise 'Gabriel' of the Warrior class has been created successfully<
>Changing player Arzhur's appearance<
In the next second, Arthur felt his vision turn dark.
And when he returned, he felt his perspective change.
"Whoa… so this is what being tall feels like." Arthur exclaimed.
~KRRR
The Dragon Horn Beetle looked at Arthur, expressing its concern.
"Don't worry Brambles, it's me." Arthur communicated to the beast.
Brambles calmed down and was relieved that Arthur was fine. After all, the earlier situation of Arthur was quite unnerving.
Arthur took a look at himself and found all of his armor pieces to have been adjusted accordingly. His earlier avatar was smaller than this after all, thus the armor should have been unable to fit.
But the veil had taken care of that too.
"Player stats!" Arthur wanted to check his information.
~DING~

——
Arthur ignored his stats as they were the same as before. But the name and class had truly changed. He also noticed the note at the bottom that confirmed his suspicions.
'If it appears like this, even the NPCs would be unable to figure it out. And the people with strong appraisal skills will also fail to do so.' Arthur thought.
He knew that only something on the level of Dragon's Insight would be able to look past his disguise. And there was basically no one with a skill of that level.
After all, it was something given by the Trickster God Loki himself!
