Chapter 78 - Lost A Grown Man At Sea
Wasn't this boy screaming for help a second ago? Was that all an act to play on his sympathy? He removed his arms covering his face and took a look. The little boy was stomping his feet smacking the Huishe that had been reduced to a snake.
Judging from its expression it seemed more upset about it being called a snake than losing its snack. A few times it tried to walk past the boy but the little dumpling was resolute.
"He's mine! Stay back," he said then looked around back to Ji Yao saying, "remember that you are mine." The words were spoken from a cute dumpling's mouth but his voice and possessive look in his eyes were enough to scare the shit out of Ji Yao.
He was so terrified that he woke up with a start huffing and puffing like he had just survived a drowning incident. His entire body was covered in sweat making him very uncomfortable.
With his leg bent at the knee and his hand holding his forehead up he struggled to calm down. "Yao-ge, you are finally awake," said a soft voice brimming with excitement.
Xiaoyu had just walked in with a basin of warm water intending to wipe away the sweat from Ji Yao's body. These past few days had been the happiest days of her life because she got to touch Ji Yao while taking care of him. She had to fight Xunshi Zhe for this position and won because of Lady Ching Sei.
The lovely lady had assumed because Xiaoyu stayed on board Red Bane and refused to join her crew meant that she had a thing going on with Ji Yao. Thinking young people need to cultivate their feelings she sent Xiaoyu to take care of him for the most part except for changing his clothes.
Rui Li would have objected but because she was worried about her brother and shaken from seeing her father she tossed her shipping duties aside. Rui Fei was in a much worse condition than Ji Yao so the pair of siblings stayed by his side twenty four seven in Rui Yewan's room.
Xiaoyu knelt on his bedside and called out, "Yao-ge, are you okay?" with concern in her eyes.
Ji Yao didn't respond immediately recalibrating his brain. When he had finally got himself together he asked, "Ah-, Ah-Fei..... ho-how is he?"
Xiaoyu almost rolled her eyes annoyed by that dark star who only knew to bring trouble to her Yao-ge. If it weren't for him Prince Rui wouldn't have come here to wreak havoc. Why didn't he just stay where he was before and not bring trouble to their peaceful lives? The sad part was that he was the first person Ji Yao asked about as soon as he woke up.
She licked her lips with a hint of nervousness. She didn't know how to answer this question because she had no idea how he was. For these past few days, she hadn't bothered to check. He could die for all she cares. "Um..... I, I don't know but Yao-ge you shouldn't be worrying about others right now and focus on recovering," she said with her finger on her lips.
Ji Yao didn't say anything biting his lips lost in thought. He was trying to make sense of his dream that he even forgot she was still kneeling beside his bed.
Seeing Ji Yao's absent expression she decided to wipe his neck. She wrung the warm towel and reached out to place it on his neck but just as she touched down Ji Yao dodged and stared at her with an air of indifference and alienation.
She didn't usually take Ji Yao's rejection to heart and respected his preferences but after days of not being denied by him, she felt a twinge in her heart that caused her eyes to sting.
Xiaoyu awkwardly retracted her hand as she pressed her lips into a thin line. Lucky for her she didn't have to endure this suffocating atmosphere for long because the door was suddenly slid open.
Lady Ching Sei halted her steps when she saw Xiaoyu's timid look with her head hung low and misunderstood. "Aiya... sorry for disturbing you love birds but I just had to check on Ah-Yao," she said before walking over in slow steps.
Xiaoyu bit her lower lip as she scrambled to her feet and scurried out of the room. Lady Ching Sei raised a brow as she watched her run out of the room like there was a crime scene in her pants (if you get this then you are a legend. Comment and give me an answer if you get it).
A confused Lady Ching Sei pointed at her with her thumb while staring at Ji Yao but how could Ji Yao answer that question? Who knows what's going on in her head?
She sighed and sat next to Ji Yao her expression solemn like she was about to deliver the worst news on earth. Ji Yao sensed her terrible mood and asked, "What's wrong?"
Her lips parted like she was about to speak but she hesitated and swallowed back her words. How was she supposed to break this news to Ji Yao? It's not like she could say, "Hey we lost your dad..... like poof, he just vanished."
How does one lose a grown man who is also the god of lightning? She rubbed her fingers against her palm nervously as she licked her lips reflecting her hesitancy to speak.
That's when it hit him. His father would have been the one by his side when he woke up just like every time he fell ill or passed out. But today it was Xiaoyu beside him which his father would never allow. Feeling suffocated with a tightness in his chest he asked, "Where is he?" his eyes reddening.
"He, he was taken by a mysterious shadow on board Red Bane. It hap-happened so..... I am sorry Ah-Yao.... Ah-Yao!" she called after him when he tossed the quilt to the side and stormed out of the room.
"Ah-Yao, you can't walk around like this. You are still recovering," she yelled but Ji Yao leapt to the sky and vanished just like that. He felt light-headed but that didn't stop him. This mysterious shadow wasn't new to him.
His father had spoken about the people around Qilin Hao and what they could do in one of his drunken escapades. He was busy accusing them of making Qilin Hao break up with him and not telling him that she had fallen for another man.. He knew this incident had to do with her and he intended to get his father back.
