Chapter 203 - Don't Go To Him
"Ha," was all that came out of Huishe Yue's mouth as he stared at Lan Wu with a perplexed expression. Was there ever a bully like him who could be questioned by his lackey? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Forget it. Theirs wasn't a normal boss and subordinate relationship so he wouldn't hold it against Lan Wu for being curious. What Huishe Yue didn't realise yet was that this arrangement was the furthest thing from that type of relationship. Lan Wu only did what he asked because he was a face-con and fanboy of Huishe Yue's face.
If this was the modern world Lan Wu would be a Sasaeng fan or rather an obsessive stalker invading Huishe Yue's privacy just to catch a glimpse of him. It was because of this that he found it hard to refuse Huishe Yue.
Take his captain's cabin on this ship as an example. He had refused Huishe Yue to enter his cabin when he first allowed him on board but that didn't last long. It didn't take more than a day for Huishe Yue to weasel his way in here. This showed how much influence Huishe Yue had over Lan Wu.
It was because of this that Lan Wu felt comfortable asking about such a sensitive subject. Their relationship had gone as far as him rubbing ointment on Huishe Yue so asking about his cheating wife wasn't going too far, right? But of course, his question was met with some type of resistance which is why he ran off to Qilin Kai to know more about her and the fate of Huishe Yue's marriage if he ever goes back to Niuq.
"If I am overstepping my bounds just tell me and I will stop asking," said Lan Wu as he got off the table his voice slightly colder than usual. As he said this his chest felt heavy like a sack of boulders was weighing heavy on him. A sour taste rose to his throat so he poured out a cup of water attempting to alleviate the symptoms but it didn't help.
He poured out another cup and was yet to drink it when Huishe Yue sat beside him placing his hand over the full cup. With his gaze on Lan Wu, he downed the entire cup under the scrutiny of Lan Wu's gaze.
One thing Lan Wu had learnt about Huishe Yue was that he wasn't exactly a germaphobe. In fact, he had very questionable behaviours and this one was the one that made Lan Wu's heart ping each time he did it.
Huishe Yue had no problem using things Lan Wu used. Whether it be a pair of chopsticks, cup or even taking food directly from Lan Wu's bowl. He liked taking anything that Lan Wu used and he wasn't the least bit grossed out about it. At first, Lan Wu wanted to address the issue thinking it was a habit he did with everyone.
But one time when they were eating with Rui Fei and his nephew tried to swipe the pork chop from his bowl he smacked Rui Fei's hand away calling it a filthy paw. Not only that but he would skip everyone else's things on the dinner table all apart from Lan Wu's stuff. When he found out about this he wasn't too sure whether he should feel honoured or sceptical.
Despite how many times he had his stuff taken away by Huishe Yue he still couldn't get used to it. His mind would sometimes wander towards the term 'indirect kiss' but psst..... it's a stupid thought, right? What he didn't know was that anything he used somehow had that faint scent that Huishe Yue liked so much.
The scavengers called it the scent of roses but it was far from that. Whatever it smelt like it attracted this Huishe calming him down. Maybe it was because Huishe Yue had endured fifty years of torment that he could be calmed down by another person's scent other than his estranged wife's.
Huishe Yue placed the cup down and as expected he was much calmer with the beast within him that was rearing its ugly head thoroughly tamed. He nudged Lan Wu with his elbow as he called out, "Hey, are you upset?" Fine a bully shouldn't be concerned with his lackey's feelings but he was a good boss so why not ask?
As the old saying goes happy wife, happy life..... wait, sorry sorry, I meant happy lackey happy boss, right? Lan Wu felt a little awkward being asked this. It felt like he was a jealous friend whose bestie had been keeping a secret girlfriend from him.
Lan Wu cleared his throat loudly and said, "It's fine if you don't want to tell me. I won't ask Qilin Kai any-," rubbing the back of his neck but he was suddenly cut off mid-sentence when Huishe Yue grabbed his wrist tightly.
Huishe Yue pulled his wrist his eyes looking like a ferocious tiger protecting its caught prey. "Don't... go to him. If you want to know anything just....," he said loosening his grip on Lan Wu's arm, "just ask me. I will tell you."
That man had laid his filthy paws on his then fiance and now he was eyeing his lackey. How could he allow that to happen? How could he let his ego get trumped over twice? He would never let that happen.
Lan Wu had no idea that mentioning Qilin Kai's name had actually opened doors to the questions he needed answered. He looked down at his hand that was being held by Huishe Yue with a complicated gaze.
Huishe Yue's brow creased as he followed Lan Wu's line of sight. Seeing the slight redness on Lan Wu's skin from holding his arm tightly, Huishe Yue apologized as he retracted his hand. "Sorry, " he said as Lan Wu rubbed his arm. Concerned he asked, "Does it hurt?"
But Lan Wu shook his head before saying, "It's fine..... so are you going to tell me about it or should I ask first?"
Huh, someone was really impatient. Huishe Yue felt so but he didn't keep Lan Wu in suspense. His loyal henchmen wanted to know about his past so he would tell him. "Ahem.... what do you want to know?" he said feeling a little nervous for some reason.
