Chapter 21 21. Truth About The Dark Ages
It’s hard to be a Supervillain. Most wannabe Supervillains ends up as criminals or terrorists before they could even get a chance to threaten the lives of civilians.
Appearance of a Supervillain in this society is not to be taken as lightly. Because if a person is recognised as Supervillain by the governing authorities, then you bet they are dangerous. Much more than terrorists or criminals.
There are few factions and social media groups that supports Villains. Those people think that Heroes are “ruling” the society and not protecting it.
However even if they do believe so, none would ever dare to support a Supervillain openly. Because at the end of the day, when Supervillains put their lives at risk, it’s always Heroes who come to their rescue.
They all have their own reasoning for rejecting the world they live in. Some gets greedy, some are born with sadistic tendencies.
Some seek vengeance for whatever they think they were wronged of, some were wrongfully accused in the past.
Some wants to reform the world anew, some do it in the name of patriotism. Some were dragged in to the underworld and are now doing the Villain work for survival.
Few of the Supervillains are even undercover Superheroes in reality. There were even cases of brainwashing civilians to act Supervillains in the recent past. Some are even in this business as a family tradition.
Point is, there are many reason for a person to become a Supervillain. Some reasons are even arguable to a certain point and some… let’s just say, some are not. But they all have their justifications to act the way they do.
However the ones with reasoning behind their actions, are atleast possible to deal with.
The problem comes in when ‘they’ starts to appear. They who act without thinking of repercussions, they who kill as if life itself has no meaning in their eyes. They who do it for fun. “Sheer Insanity” are the only words that could describe their way of thinking.
And when these said insane Supervillains possess strong powers or sharp intelligence, or in the worst case, both, they are dubbed as Megavillains..
Right now Sam was sitting on a sofa in a dimly lit room. His index finger tapping the wooden hand rest akin to a clock ticking.
A holographic screen was being projected in front of him. It was coming from his mobile screen that was lying face up on the center table.
The screen had a new blog open on it. The blog was titled as “Appearance of a new Megavillain in the heart city of Hero alliance?”
Sam scoffed lightly at the headline and looked at the digital clock displaying at the top right corner of screen. It was already 11:45 p.m. and Sam was getting impatient. His finger started to tap faster.
“What the fuck is taking her so long?” Je complained.
(I say kill her for making you wait!) the voice in his head suggested. It was not the first time that his “Inner voice” has suggested something like this.
Sam rolled his eyes and replied with silence.
The place he was currently in was actually a house at the far end of the academy city’s border. He had mind controlled the owner into giving him the house keys and ordered him to travel outstation for a few months.
Right now he was sitting in the drawing room. Growing impatient, he got up from the sofa and was about to go play with his newfound toy. However before he could, he heard a knock from the main door.
“Finally!” He went into the hallway and placed his hand on doorknob of the main door. With a click sound he turned it and opened the door.
“S-Sam? It’s you, wh-why am I here? I don’t remember?” The silver haired girl from the other side said, clearly startled by her situation.
“Kiara, calm down and come in.” Sam casually said and opened the door wider.
“Come in? Sam what is this place and why am I here? I don’t remember, this doesn’t make any sens-” Sam placed a hand on her mouth and spoke again with violet glowing eyes.
“Calm down,” upon hearing those words, Kiara felt a sudden waves of calmness surging through her mind. “Good, now come in.”
***
“Where were you? I asked you to come here 20 minutes ago?”
“Father I was in Melbourne! That is now Academy City, which is in Australia! You asked me to come here in 20 minutes! Not only I travelled from Australia to Amarica in under half an hour I also had to search where the place “Here” is!”
“Oh come on Anthony! You can far surpass the speed of sound, don’t rant and don’t make excuses for falling behind in your regular training.”
“That is so not the point! You didn’t tell me what place “Here” is! You just mentioned come “here”, what is “Here”?! How would I know where “Here” is?!”
“Quit wailing like a virgin Anthony… nevermind that was a low blow, afterall you are a virgin pftt.”
“Dad I’m having hard time here controlling myself to not punch you at the force of a bullet train!”
Currently the flaxen haired father son duo were standing in an open area in a lightly populated forest. Anthony was without his Starboy costume and was wearing a light casual clothing, as if he was going to the sleep but was called here.
The big burly man standing right infront of him was his father, Arthur Willburn a.k.a Starsuper. His hair shimmered deep golden under the light of half moon, his eyes were a replica of Anthony’s, but more clearer. He was in a casual hoodie and sweatpants, but despite that casual clothing, the aura he carried around him was that of a beast in sleeping. The kind of beast that you don’t want to wake up.
“Okay okay I’ll stop.” Arthur chuckled lightly “What a virgin.” He jokingly uttered underneath his breath, that comment made a nerve twitch on Anthony’s forehead.
“Dad stop it please,” Anthony replied with a smile, a devilish smile on his angelic face.
“Oh dear, you really look like your mother when you get angry huh?” Arthur laughed and placed a hand on Anthony’s shoulder.
Dropping the casual funny front he was putting on earlier, Arthur spoke again, “Anthony, did you trace her?”
Anthony took a deep sigh, his reaction already told Arthur that he had failed in tracking his sister however he still let him explain himself.
“I was unable to father… I’m sorry” Anthony dropped his face.
“Unable to?” Arthur arched his eyebrow.
“Yes, I was unable to. I use my <Sight> but I was still unable to, I’m sorry, maybe it’s as you say, maybe I’m really falling behind on my training,” Anthony dropped his head again, he was practically bowing right now at this point.
“Get up straight Anthony, it’s okay.” Arthur replied.
“I-It is?” Anthony raised his head up in shock.
“Yes, it simply means that my suspicion was correct.” Arthur closed his eyes and took a deep sigh. “Anthony, I’ve told you about our origin but I’ve never told you about him.”
“Him? Him who dad?” Confused, Anthony asked with visible curiosity on his face.
“The only man that held the power to rival us, a man so fierce that he gained the title of Demon King. The man otherwise also known as The Progenitor. Kale Won Godhand.” Arthur replied, traces of regret and even fear slightly appearing on his face as he said his name.
“Kale? Yes I’ve heard about the Progenitor. I’ve also read about him in history. It is said that he created a legion of monsters and used them to dominate the world for a century or so, thus gaining the nickname Demon King. That was until you appeared and ended his reign in the battle of Melbourne.” Anthony replied proudly. Although proud, but confusion could still be heard from his way of speaking.
“But dad, why are we talking about him right now? He has been announced long dead for more than 3 centuries, then what does he have to do with me not being able to find Rebekah?” He added.
“Listen here Tony, we… when we came here, we thought we were all powerful beings. We thought no one could stop us, the 3 of us were powerful enough to claim this world, but we chose to help them instead. We thought with our powers we could bring good to this world, we thought we were the only ones who could achieve true peace in this world because we didn’t have the risk of loosing our lives… and how dead wrong we were about that.”
Memories resurfaced and emotions he thought were long dead rose up once again to make his chest feel heavy, but Arthur suppressed the feeling and kept on speaking.
“We did bring true peace to this world, but my two brothers who came here with me, sacrificed themselves to give me a winning chance against that monster. Your history books glorify me, they made that hellish battle look easy and one sided. Well the truth is Arthur, it was not, it was anything but one sided. Kale Won Godhand a.k.a Progenitor claimed the lives of my two brothers, and it took many more countless sacrifices to come out of The Dark Ages.”
Anthony was in shock, not only from learning that his father had two brothers who died in that war, but also from the fact that fear was clearly visible on his face. An expression Anthony thought he would never see on his father’s face.
“You asked what does it have to do with the current situation right?” Arthur looked up at the half moon to hold back his tears and regain his composure, “Our power, our true power, [Divine Sight] doesn’t work on him.”
