Chapter 4 4: Fallen Town!
Lucifer's tired body trounced through the expansive forest; because he was an ageing gamer, there were many things he never cared for when playing, not having the time for lore, story and the things young players might obsess over.
The Lewd scenes with VR headsets were his only objective! He was lonely, and it still worked like he was in his mid-twenties.
He was currently Level 6, unsure what to use his level-up bonuses on.
Though vampires did not feel physical exhaustion, he was mentally drained, and his feet, without any protection, were covered in small sores from the sharp rocks and spikey bushes he had stepped on countless times.
No matter if his body would be restored like magic, each time he felt that euphoric orgasm of a level up, the Pain and irritation of stepping on those things was worse than those colourful devil bricks he kept for nostalgic value.
Thus he spent what seemed like an eternity lost in this strange forest. For him...
'This tree, I am sure I've seen this tree like 100 times now...'
A resounding thud filled the entire forest as he slammed his shoulder into the hard bark, despite his single strength point, equivalent to a regular male's strength, causing it to wobble slightly as the dull green branches shook, with dirt and bugs falling onto his body.
"I want to be reincarnated, they say... Become a hero... they say..."
"Damn kids, don't even understand how it feels to be half naked in the forest fighting off wolves, forced to drink their blood to survive..."
"Am I going crazy... Is this some middle-aged discrimination? I am not a hero or a villain... some random guy who died to a wolf in the forest..."
Lucifer's mental state was a little weak.
His time inside the forest was 27 hours; the night came and went, but due to the dark overlooking forest, how could he realise so? Of course, it felt like an eternity.
Despite complaining about the wolf blood, he now had a small wooden tube, crafted using his sharp claws, pouring the excess blood of a pair of wolves he had killed over the past day.
Each time he fought, the casting of [Vampiric Drain] and his [Dagger Skills] became more natural to him; no longer needing even to call out the name, his hand would instantly glow dark red, sucking on the creature he held it to, now able to keep it casting even if bitten two or three times.
"Oh?"
Suddenly, the scenery changed as a slight opening formed in the distant treetops. Lucifer's eyes widened, feeling a sudden sense of joy before he started to jog, slowly building up momentum, his mind over the past day getting more used to a young and agile body rather than his stiff and chubby one.
The wind blew back his hair and the torn cloth around his waist, the vampire's shame flapping against his legs like a shameless club.
"Freedom... I can see a small village... no, is it a town!?"
Happiness filled Lucifer's mind as the forest branches sliced through his cheeks, snapping like whips as he passed and lashing his muscular back; the Pain was meaningless.
He would finally meet other people!
The time alone was filled with only struggle, strife and self-dialogue, which made him even more imbalanced.
In his previous life, Lucifer was an amiable man; thus, being isolated in the forest wasn't something he handled well.
Lucifer's feet stopped dashing when he left the outer forest in a large clearing of fields and farmland in the distance.
But he didn't continue rushing, not only because a large white wolf was blocking his path. It was the fact he wasn't sure he could read or speak the language. God, no, why would he let some slightly more giant wolf get in his way?
Imagine a strange, handsome male with pale skin and naked with his giant rod hanging out. Wouldn't the guards send him to be locked away or shipped to some asylum for the insane, maybe even mistaking him for a mere beggar or someone fleeing from debt?
His hand grasped the chipped knife in a reverse grip, though on its last legs, filled with bite marks, damaged to the hilt and blade, while his right hand swirled with the dark red vampiric magic ready to fight the wolf ahead of him.
'This is a good sign...!' Lucifer thought, his eyes focused on the wolf that slowly circled him.
He was on guard but also felt a sense of ease. Because Lucifer knew this place and knowing where he was allowed his mind to relax a level, now able to focus on the white wolf, also known as a [Silver] to the young kids.
'I never thought I'd be happy to see a [Silver] here... A silver elite, white wolf... Ulgarm...! The first town the protagonist will visit, Fallon town!'
"Ulgarm, Guardian of the Grand Fae Forest! Nicknamed The Newbie Killer!"
Lucifer's thoughts became sharper, his body lowering as the wolf's mouth released a deep, angry howl, likely due to the thick scent of wolf blood on his body rather than his makeshift wooden tube filled with their blood.
Filled with confidence, he thought he could do this, not just his big words to help his feeble mind cope.
He took the first move, lunging forward with a feint, his right hand grasping towards Ulgarm as its body twitched, yelping from the sudden red stream being sucked from its flesh.
The wolf was galvanised, its white fur standing on edge as it dashed around trying to break the link, yet Lucifer's eyes merely closed, his focus on the wolf's heart; his ears could detect and feel its movements matter how it ran or dodged his sight.
Lucifer could feel it in the air, the scent of fear and desperation as the wolf's life force continued to dwindle, wanting to attack but too smart to leap forward with its claws like a fool.
This small amount of intellect worked against Ulgarm as all Lucifer needed to do focus, wait for the wolf to become impatient, then follow the bloody scent, the rapid beating of the wolf's heart now just a few metres behind him, no longer dashing as it's howls resounded and echoed through the area.
With the distant beating hearts, a faint red dot in Lucifer's mind began to flee away from the area.
'That's about right. Ulgarm is a deadly threat to that town, and only the adventurers could stop him.'
Woosh!
A sudden gust of wind rushed across the small field. Ulgarm used this moment to dash towards Lucifer, its mind plagued by impatience as the intellect dulled its instincts just enough that killing the enemy surpassed the desire to flee.
"You couldn't wait a moment more, and my mana would have been almost empty..."
Lucifer's eyes slowly opened, the deep crimson eye's glowing like a deadly beacon, his body twisting like an acrobat as he jumped into the air, dodging the wolf's deadly claws that ripped through the place he stood with a brutal swipe that would have cleaved him into pieces with such low vitality.
His enhanced vision saw the white wolf's body below as he rotated three times before landing on the back of the wolf; the moment he landed, his mana was empty, and a sense of weakness and stabbing Pain in the back of his mind for a few moments, but it was too late for the wolf, his arms locked around its head.
"Thank you for this delicious meal. May the god of wolves give you a better life next time."
He bit down on the wolf's beautiful white neck, his sharp fangs piercing the delicate flesh, a taste of light blueberry and mint filling his mouth, causing Lucifer's jaw to lock down.
'I don't know if I'm changing because of becoming a vampire... but I love the taste of fresh blood...! Little wolf, thank you for becoming my desert and reward for freedom! Pass on in peace!'
The raging wolf's body was like a bucking bull, trying to throw him off, rolling in the mud as the vampire only let out a few groans while guzzling down the thick wolf blood.
Lucifer felt the wolf weaken, and in an instant, the heart's beating became weaker; he tightened his sore arms, pulling them tightly as a sudden crack sounded, before he fell to the ground like a sack of rocks, landing on the wolf's corpse with a thud.
Ulgarm, the former guardian of the Grand Fae Forest, was vanquished. His beautiful white fur was filled with thick, sticky red blood before a dense burst of purple aura pulsed from the monster's body and poured into Lucifer's body.
"Ugh!!"
The familiar [Level Up] - Flashed in the small grimoire with the number like in square brackets. [7]
Lucifer dropped from the back of the wolf, wiping his mouth, exhausted mentally, constantly fighting wolves with his life on the life. Slowly he was changing to suit this world more; without the easy mode hero or villain titles, he managed to escape the forest of death and defeat the newbie killer.
'I think being a vampire with game knowledge is more of a cheat than being the hero...!' Lucifer admitted as his vision and mind became vague.
Before completely losing his mind, he tapped the grimoire six times to spend the points, not wishing to die because of his frail body while sleeping.
The 28 hours of focus finally took its toll, abusing his mana to zero every fight and pushing through the migraines and stabbing Pain, causing him to lose consciousness.
He could faintly hear the distant shouts from what seemed to be adventurous or the town watch as the melodic voice of a mature female sounded, easing his mind into a deeper sleep, for a moment the grimoire shimmering with his unseen changes before sleeping.
