Chapter 3 - Even the Female Lead Is Acting Weird?
Chapter 3: Even the Female Lead Is Acting Weird?
“So, has your son changed at all recently?” Jin Lan tried asking casually.
Chen Fan’s mother thought for a moment and replied, “Changed? Hmm, he’s been calling me more often. Seems like he’s finally maturing, learning to be filial.”
“Oh, and what else?”
“Well, he bought a car, but it wasn’t an expensive one—just a regular one for getting around. He’s also stopped yelling at the housekeeper. I guess he’s grown up.”
He’s a transmigrator. He’s a transmigrator!
Jin Lan almost blurted it out but felt something blocking her, making it impossible for her to say it. She didn’t fully understand, but one thing was clear: some things were meant to be known but never spoken.
“Do you want me to make something special for you to eat?”
“No need, anything’s fine. It’s been a while, let’s have some drinks tonight,” Chen Fan’s mother said, nodding in agreement.
Time passed slowly, and soon, the main guests started arriving one by one.
Chen Fan’s father, along with some of the family’s relatives, arrived.
Members of Lin Qingyue’s family, along with some of their relatives, also showed up. Everyone gathered together, chatting with one another.
Lin Qingyue’s family was in real estate, a business that required close ties with certain government departments. In Qincheng, Jin Lan was in charge of many major affairs, so naturally, they wanted to establish a relationship with her.
As for Chen Fan, he politely handed out cigarettes to everyone and then stepped back, staying out of the way.
“When will Qingyue arrive?”
“She’s already downstairs,” came the reply.
As soon as they spoke, the door opened, and Lin Qingyue entered, accompanied by a young man. The man had short, messy hair and dressed plainly, but wore a special ring on his hand. That ring was unique to Ye Aotian, the male lead, symbolizing his identity as the Dragon King.
Oh right, this guy also had tattoos and scars—another typical setup for novel protagonists. For some reason, the male leads in these stories are always designed like this.
In real life, this guy would be considered a thug—someone who’s quick to fight.
Seeing Lin Qingyue, Chen Fan immediately stood up and began his performance.
“Qingyue, long time no see. You’ve become even more beautiful.”
Chen Fan eagerly ran over.
I’m a born performer. I should apply to an art school. I could totally become a big star. I’m destined for greatness.
Jin Lan, meanwhile, paused her conversation and quietly watched the scene unfold.
This should be one of the plot moments in the novel world where Chen Fan has to play his part.
She was growing more curious about what kind of novel world they were living in.
Lin Qingyue looked at Chen Fan and smiled coldly. “Long time no see.”
Her icy expression almost made Chen Fan burst out laughing internally.
As expected of the female lead—just look at that disdain she’s directing at the antagonist. Perfect.
Yes, hate me. That’s how it’s supposed to be.
“And who might this be?” Chen Fan asked.
“He’s Ye Aotian, my boyfriend,” Lin Qingyue replied.
The room fell silent.
Jin Lan almost reached for some sunflower seeds to munch on. This … this story was getting interesting.
Chen Fan’s father, Chen Tianqiang, let out a cold laugh. “Lin Youfu, you’re quite bold, aren’t you?”
Lin Youfu, Lin Qingyue’s father, turned pale and hurriedly stood up, apologizing, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I had no idea this would happen.”
Chen Fan’s mother’s expression darkened as well. “The Lin family owes us an explanation.”
Meanwhile, Lin Qingyue stood there calmly, saying nothing. Ye Aotian, however, spoke with pride, “It’s the modern era. Do you still believe in arranged marriages? Your daughter isn’t a commodity to be traded. Is it worth it to exchange your daughter’s happiness for future benefits? I think I’ll be able to take good care of Qingyue.”
His words brought silence to the room.
Chen Fan sighed, taking a deep breath. Time to start acting.
“And who do you think you are, some random guy? Why do you think you have any right to speak here? Qingyue, you’ve always disliked me because you liked him, right? What did I ever do wrong? I’ve been waiting for you all this time.”
Chen Fan delivered his lines with great emotion, even wiping at his eyes.
Tears immediately welled up.
Damn it, these onions are so spicy.
Chen Tianqiang, watching his son cry, felt a bit regretful. His son was too wrapped up in matters of the heart. If it weren’t for Chen Fan’s feelings for Lin Qingyue, he wouldn’t have bothered dealing with the Lin family. To Chen Tianqiang, the Lin family was of little importance.
Lin Qingyue, looking at Chen Fan, calmly replied, “But I don’t like you.”
“So you like him instead? What’s so great about him?” Chen Fan shot back.
Jin Lan almost clapped. If she hadn’t already known about the engagement cancellation, she might have been moved.
Wow, Chen Fan’s acting skills are incredible. This guy is really something.
Chen Fan’s mother interjected, “Lin Qingyue, watch your tone. Xiao Fan likes you; you should feel honored.”
Ye Aotian retorted, “Honored? My woman doesn’t need anyone’s approval.”
Chen Fan screamed, yelled, and roared in frustration.
At that moment, it was as if he were trying to tell everyone that he was a total simp—a loyal, miserable simp.
“You don’t deserve Qingyue. She belongs to me … She’s only mine …” With that, he charged toward Ye Aotian.
Bajiquan, using only one percent of his strength. That should be enough to not kill the guy, right?
At this point in the story, the male lead hadn’t yet fully developed his powers or learned any ancient martial arts.
Ye Aotian wasn’t intimidated, throwing a punch of his own.
The normal sequence of events: Chen Fan would take the punch to the face, get knocked down, and then wipe his nose. Afterward, Ye Aotian would whisk Lin Qingyue away, while Chen Fan would cry like a stray dog.
After all, the third chapter was the engagement breakup, and in the fourth and fifth chapters, he would be reduced to a heartbroken loser.
Acting is so hard. I’m just worried I might accidentally kill the male lead.
Lin Qingyue raised her hand to stop him and said, “It’s true, I don’t like you. But I don’t like him either. He’s just someone I brought to pretend. There’s no need to overthink this. I, Lin Qingyue, don’t need a man to give me a sense of security. Mom, Dad, I’m leaving now. You all enjoy your meal.”
???
Did we just break off the engagement? Does this count as an engagement breakup? Damn it, this development is so off-script! Damn it!
