Chapter 226 Into The Unknown

"A sleeping spell. No, that won't work—or will it?" Cerisedel paced back and forth in the hidden treasure room, every spell book in the vicinity all floated with her powers as she flipped through dozens of them and tried to read them all at the same time.

"A strong one, stronger than that—that can't do. Ah, help me with this, Lukas… wait no, your kind do not dabble in magic."

Lukas who nearly had a spellbook float in front of him quickly shut in his face, moments before he could even read the first spell.

And that irritated him.

Somehow when he saw the spellbook, it was in a script that was unknown to him and yet it was somehow able to enter his mind smoothly as if he understood the language all the same.

"I've been seconds away from learning—"

"We are in the threat of the Unknowns. Now is not the time to be learning spells—and if it is, then it must be spells of mass destruction and chaos. Or perhaps separation. If I can separate this mountain from this world then if this world is destroyed then my people will survive." Cerisedel muttered aloud, noticed the look from Lukas and then cleared her throat. "Of course, something like that is difficult. And ah, you did ask for my aid so let us see what we can do to stop it."

"You said something about making it fall asleep?"

"My ancestors must have attacked it strong enough that it had to fall into a coma, or a hibernation of sorts, but instead of letting the Dark Forest remain as it is as a final resting place for the creature—your people have disturbed it. AH! How could you guys not know it?"

"They're not my people—or, even if I'm now one of them, I think it's got a lot more to do with the fact that records get destroyed overtime."

"Nothing as valuable as this information though! Who would forget an important piece like this?" Cerisedel jabbed a claw in the air and then looked at a reflection of herself in the mirror. "Well, not me. I'm excused because I was born when my kind had already passed away and no one was there to inform me about it."

"We're in the same boat."

"No—well, it doesn't matter. Let's arm ourselves with as much spells and magical power as possible." Cerisedel turned across the treasures lying around and quickly flickered a staff up.

It was a magical staff, but it was also the most gaudy thing that Lukas had ever laid his eyes on.

The staff had a heart on top, a reddish and pink glowing crystal that let out a small hum when Cerisedel grasped it.

"What is that…?"

"It's a magical staff. Have you not ever seen anything like it?"

"I probably already have seen depictions of it, but it's never anything like that." Lukas said but then shook his head. "Doesn't matter. If that's the real deal then we'll sport that. I'll take any magical girl thing—wait, magical girl."

"Is that another thing that your kind has proliferated?" Cerisdel raised a brow. "Then again, anyone can be magical, so I don't know how that term is perpetuated."

"We don't need Sleeping Spells. No, we need Cleansing Spells. Purification ones. If that thing is corrupting everything then we need to fight against it and restore things to as they once were."

"Will that actually force it to sleep though?"

"I'm not sure, but at that point, its grasp on reality would have lessened and maybe it would fall asleep." Lukas said. He figured that Unknowns were probably eldritch beings, and that fit with how it was operating.

If it woke up, the world ended.

Easy peasy, that had to be eldritch levels of danger.

"If it grows even angrier—but then again, at this point it's not awake but merely dreaming. So it might work." Cerisedel said with a slightly appeased expression and then made a treasure chest open.

Several potion bottles floated out, each one containing shimmering liquids.

"What are those?" Lukas asked.

"They're powerful potions, I doubt anything like this is being distributed. Its quality is spectacular, maybe legendary—which is fitting for someone such as I am."

"Wait, you're just going to use them?" Lukas asked.

"Of course—what are these here for if it were not for using?" Cerisedel pointed out.

"Maybe… maybe we can recreate them." Lukas said, feeling like he was about to lose something valuable.

"Your kind regenerates fast—or at least the one that you're emulating, I do not see how this will benefit you by keeping it with you to recreate."

"You can sell them at least!" Lukas said. He knew that there were a lot of technological advancements in his world, but in this place, something like this could make or break when someone was at the point of life or death.

Cerisedel had made it pointedly clear that Vampires were mortals. Perhaps extremely long lived based on how Drusilla lasted all her time in a dagger—but what if it was more related to the imprisonment into the weapon than anything else?

"We have no moment to lose for something like that. The end of the world is at night. Fret not." Cerisedel said and then turned towards the closed cave and reopened it with her hand.

When she opened it, the sight of three other 'Vampires' became visible.

Matthew, Anthony and Philip stood in front of the cave and then looked at Lukas shellshocked.

Or maybe it was the fact that Cerisedel was still buck naked in her humanoid form that got them spellbounded.

"Who are these—how did the three of you get here?" Cerisedel looked worried for her family, but then saw and did not smell any sort of blood on them except the ones that belonged to Wailing Goats.

"What happened here, Lukas? Who is this chick? Are you guys here to—" Anthony didn't finish his sentence.

Cerisedel quickly shut back the cave and turned to Lukas with a glare. "This is not what we've agreed upon."
