Chapter 41
41 Rough.
Valerian stopped and looked at the girl who called him a thief with condescending eyes. The girl looked tall and slender, her eyes were brimming with arrogance. The boy could tell that the identity of this girl was different from the others, her soft armor was covered with runes and patterns, unlike others.
She did not lower her voice when she accused the child so everyone heard this. Meta said, “Your grace, he is just taking away his knife from the corpse nothing else.”
Valerian heard the address that confirmed his suspicion, seems like this girl was from the house of the city lord of Calix. Meta turned to look at the child and said in a low voice, “Do not mind her, take your knife, and thank you.”
The child had no intention of entangling with these people and took out his knife, he recalled that this girl had not bowed to him earlier either. This told him about the arrogant personality of the girl.
Valerian cleaned the blood off the knife and walked up to Calx. In the past few days, he had gathered enough herbs that had a healing effect on the people. Only last night when they were eating Gleam had told him that the use of the herbs was to be carried on the person and taken when needed.
In the past, this ignorant kid has carried them. Today he did and watching the girl whimper in pain, decided to give it to them.
Calx saw the boy in beast skin approaching and raised his head. Valerian made a few signs and Calx was surprised, just when he was hesitating, the whimper from his sister woke him up.
Finally, he nodded, Valerian took out a vine from the inside of his armor and handed it to Calx, and made a few signs. The latter said, “Thank you.”
He turned his head to his sister and said, “Jenna, bite on this.”
.....
The girl nodded her head with some difficulty and was about to bite on the vine, when a discordant voice sounded, “Calx, I commend your bravery. Will you just put anything in your sister’s mouth? Are you sure?”
Calx began to hesitate again, after all, they have just met with Valerian and had no prior contact. Valerian gazed at the City Princess with an indifferent gaze and made a said to Calx, ‘You should wait for the lady mentioned by that Old Sir. I will now take my leave.”
That said, he bowed to Calx and walked away from the place. The City Princess said, “Humph, he must have a guilty conscience, I bet it must be in his blood. Petty Criminals.”
Meta frowned at the lady and shook his head. Valerian stopped and his gaze had turned cold like ice. Meta was an experienced Warrior, he watched Valerian’s gaze and he could tell that this boy had killed people before.
He wanted to intercede, but Valerian did not wish to listen to anything, he would not have minded any comments about himself but this arrogant girl maligned his parents, how dare she. He shifted his weight forward and in an instant, he stood in front of the City Princess.
Meta was surprised, he thought that the earlier speed shown by Valerian was the fastest, but this, covering twenty meters in a blink, this was something even he had to squeeze his energy to achieve.
The old man said, “Valerian, do not do it.”, with a panic laced in his voice.
The City Princess was still in a state of shock when the savage appeared in front of her. Before she could even scream for help, she sensed her throat clutched in an iron group.
Meta was shocked, he did not expect things to escalate so quickly. The old man moved forward and slapped Valerian on the chest. The strong impact made the two people break away from each other. Valerian cast a gaze at the old man, who said, “Valerian, calm down.”
However, before anything else, the City Princess said, “Meta, I want his hands. How dare this savage dare touch me?”
The old man kept his gaze locked on the raging child as he said, “Your Grace, you better calm down. It was your fault.”
This statement did not sit when with the City Princess and she said, “Old man did you forget that you promised my father to guard me? He attacked me in front of you. Have you no shame, did you not say that you will kill even the messenger of death to keep me safe.”
The Old man grit his teeth and said, “Your Grace, do not make things difficult.”
Before the City Princess could say anything, Valerian moved to attack again. Meta did not let this boy pass him this time and held him by the shoulders firmly.
Valerian grunted and tried his best to push away the old man but nothing worked. His actions shocked the whole group. They did not expect this child to be able to hold his end against Meta, the strongest warrior in the city of Calix.
Valerian found that none of his efforts will work, he took out the bear claw knife from his vest and was about to slash at the old man, when the old warrior shunned the kid far away.
Valerian grimaced from the pain and was about to start fighting again when a loud tweet made him freeze on the spot. He raised his head to look at the sky and found a bird circling down.
He could recognize this bird, it was a magical beast, Light Swallow. It was a light-attributed magical beast known for its fast speed.
Valerian might take his chances with the old man but not a Magical Beast. He stood in his place and watched the bird land on the shore. The bird was big enough to carry two people, and at the moment, it had a beautiful young lady riding a saddle.
The young lady had similar features to the City Princess. But instead of arrogance, her brows had a charm of kindness. She wore a silver robe, with black hair and black eyes.
She jumped off the saddle and asked, “What is going on here?”
The City Princess said, “Elder Sister, this savage tried to kill me.”
The lady in silver robes frowned and looked at Valerian, however, something surprising happened, her magical beast fluttered her wings and landed close to Valerian.
When everyone thought that the beast will attack Valerian, the bird let out a low tweet and rubbed her beak against the cheek of the boy. She could tell that something was different about this child.
Valerian was afraid because snakes and birds were natural enemies, and his body had the scent of Gleam, but when raised his hand and saw the bear skin armor, he understood that it was because of this armor the scent was covered.
Meta said, “Lady Consano, the matter is not as the second lady said.”
This girl in silver robes was Consano. She nodded and asked, “Tell me, what happened here then.”
Meta narrated the incident and Consano gazed at her younger sister. She said, “When everyone in the family is strict with you, I try to stand up for you and pamper you like none else, but why do you not understand that you are not different than others, Conixia? Do you like it when I have to bow down to others so that they do not look badly at you?”
Conixia, the City Princess felt like she was wronged, she said, “They never look at me with any positive emotion anyway. They have you, the gentle lady Consano. I am not needed anyway so what difference does it make?”
She was trying to cover her weakness in the facade of arrogance. Consano said, “You are wrong. It is not that they do not want you, but when you make a mistake you should learn to apologize, and do not think I have no knowledge that some of your actions are deliberate, just like today. Come forward and apologize.”
Conixia was shivering from anger, that her loving sister was taking the side of a savage, but when she found that her elder sister was looking at her with a hopeful gaze, she grit her teeth, her anger was targeted at Valerian.
She turned her gaze to look at him and found him glaring at her ready to kill her as soon as he finds an opportunity. When she noticed that the boy had tightened his grip around the claw knife, she subconsciously said, “I apologize, please forgive me.”
Valerian grit his teeth and after keeping back his knife he made a few signs and after patting the huge bird, he dashed away into the tree line.
Meta looked at this and sighed, he was surprised how the second lady apologized from the strong fear. Consano wanted to say something but the silhouette of the child had already vanished into thick woods.
Meta asked, “What did he say at the end?”
Consano replied, “I do not accept your apology. A human who could not distinguish between right and wrong is not comparable to even beasts. Farewell.”
She told everyone what the boy had spoken, and looking at her sister, she found a slight change in her eyes. This was something unexpected and she became curious about the boy.
