Chapter 2
C2 – X-Ray Vision
Ye Hao’s speculation turned out to be accurate.
Three days later, Ye Hao regained consciousness.
When he opened his eyes, he was taken aback.
He could see the entire world with crystal clarity.
Ye Hao used to have some nearsightedness.
But now, he was certain that his vision had reached an astonishing level.
Moreover, his hearing had become remarkably acute.
Ye Hao could faintly catch conversations from the other side of the wall.
“Let me kiss you.”
“We’re in the hospital.”
“But no one in the ward is paying attention to us.”
“Still, it’s not appropriate to kiss where people might see us.”
“How about I just give you a quick kiss, okay?”
“Alright.”
Upon hearing this, Ye Hao suddenly felt curious about what was happening in the ward across from them.
As he pondered, the wall in front of him suddenly vanished, revealing a scene of a young man and woman engaged in a kiss.
Startled, Ye Hao couldn’t help but exclaim.
Guo Xiu, who was peacefully sleeping on the bed, woke up abruptly. When she saw Ye Hao sitting up, her eyes lit up with delight.
“Hao, you’re awake!”
Seeing his frail mother, Ye Hao couldn’t help but feel guilty in his heart.
“Mom.”
Guo Xiu nodded, and then a sudden thought struck her, prompting her to quickly press the emergency button beside the bed.
Shortly after, a nurse entered the room, and her expression changed upon seeing that Ye Hao was awake.
Ye Hao’s condition was highly complicated, and logically, he shouldn’t have regained consciousness at all.
The nurse approached Ye Hao to check his vital signs and promptly left to report to the doctor in the on-call room.
Upon hearing that Ye Hao had awakened, the doctor from the on-call room hurriedly rushed in.
“I need to conduct a thorough examination of your body,” the doctor informed him.
After meticulously examining Ye Hao, the doctor discovered that all of his vital signs were normal, and his overall health was remarkably better than an ordinary person’s.
But this didn’t make sense!
Most patients who had been bedridden for half a year would be extremely frail. It was inconceivable for someone to be as healthy as Ye Hao after enduring such a prolonged illness.
Despite the unfairness of the situation, the doctor insisted that Ye Hao must leave the hospital.
As soon as Ye Zhiguo received the news, he hurried to the hospital, settling all the medical bills and bringing Ye Hao back home.
Upon their return, Ye Hao was taken aback.
Numerous appliances and furniture in their house were missing.
“Dad, what’s happening?” Ye Hao inquired, noticing the hint of despondency in Ye Zhiguo’s demeanor.
At that moment, Ye Zhiguo’s phone rang.
Answering the call, he exchanged a few words and then grabbed his keys, saying to Guo Xiu, “I have something to take care of. I need to go out for a while.”
Once Ye Zhiguo left, Guo Xiu contemplated for a moment and suggested, “Hao, you’ve just recovered from a serious illness. Why don’t you rest in your room? I’ll go out to buy some groceries and prepare your favorite sweet and sour pork ribs for lunch.”
Ye Hao nodded and retreated to his room.
Inside, everything was just as it used to be.
Ye Hao’s eyes welled up with tears.
“Dad, Mom, I promise to give you a good life.” Previously, Ye Hao wouldn’t dare utter such words, but after his body was modified, he felt confident in achieving this goal.
Ye Hao lay on the bed, contemplating how to earn money.
He wasn’t naive; he could clearly see that his family was facing financial difficulties.
Ye Hao swiftly recalled the scene in the hospital ward.
Then, he turned his gaze towards the living room.
As Ye Hao thought about inspecting the living room, a bearing wall several centimeters thick vanished from his sight, revealing the benches, trash cans, and other items within.
“I’ve gained the ability to see through things!” This time, Ye Hao was absolutely certain.
With this revelation, Ye Hao thought of a way to make a fortune.
In the past, Ye Hao occasionally bought scratch-and-win tickets.
However, most of the time, he didn’t make any money.
Now that he possessed the ability to see through things, he knew he had to make the most of this power.
Ye Hao quickly took out twenty yuan from the drawer and headed to the lottery shop near his house.
“Boss, I’d like a scratch-and-win ticket,” Ye Hao said, pointing at the pile of twenty-one scratch-and-win tickets.
The shop owner responded and was about to tear one for Ye Hao.
Ye Hao promptly stopped him, saying, “I’ll pick one myself.”
“Here you go,” the shop owner casually handed a stack of lottery tickets to Ye Hao.
Ye Hao held the stack of tickets, first examining the rules for winning, and then focusing on the layer of tin on top.
Suddenly, the layer of tin vanished from his sight.
Ye Hao could now see the characters hidden beneath the layer of tin with a single glance.
This lottery ticket turned out to be a non-winning one.
Ye Hao moved on to the second ticket.
Once again, he didn’t win anything.
Ye Hao proceeded to examine the third ticket.
This time, the lottery ticket was worth 20 yuan.
However, Ye Hao dismissed the idea of choosing the third one as the reward money was too meager.
Ye Hao’s excitement grew when he reached the tenth ticket.
The tenth scratch-and-win ticket was worth 100 yuan.
After memorizing this ticket, Ye Hao moved on to the next scratch-and-win ticket.
As he finished going through the stack, disappointment washed over his face.
The highest prize in this bundle of lottery tickets was merely 100 yuan.
However, after a moment’s consideration, Ye Hao felt relieved.
If he could stumble upon a scratch-and-win ticket worth a hundred thousand yuan in any random bundle of lottery tickets, the lottery shop would have gone out of business long ago.
He couldn’t be too hasty now.
“Boss, I’ll take this lottery ticket,” Ye Hao said, tearing off the tenth scratch-and-win ticket.
As he scratched off the coating, he did indeed win a hundred yuan.
The owner’s face displayed surprise, “You’re lucky. Do you want two more scratch-and-win tickets?”
The boss had an ulterior motive. He knew well that the largest prize in this bunch of lottery tickets was only a hundred yuan. If Ye Hao bought another one, he would definitely spend the entire hundred yuan.
“I’d like to exchange for another bunch of lottery tickets,” Ye Hao said, not falling for the trap. He wouldn’t buy another bunch of lottery tickets.
Hearing this, the boss showed a disappointed expression, but he still handed Ye Hao a new bundle of lottery tickets.
Ye Hao once again activated his X-ray Vision ability.
However, luck wasn’t on Ye Hao’s side this time.
The biggest prize among the stack of lottery tickets was only fifty yuan.
Ye Hao took out the scratch-off ticket that awarded fifty yuan and began to scratch.
This time, the shop owner was genuinely stunned.
“Your luck is too incredible,” the boss exclaimed in amazement.
“I guess I’m just having a lucky day,” Ye Hao replied, pocketing the fifty yuan and deciding to leave.
He knew he couldn’t push his luck too far; doing this three times in a row might raise suspicion.
With one hundred and thirty yuan in his pocket, Ye Hao hurriedly made his way to another lottery shop nearby.
However, just as Ye Hao was about to activate his X-ray Vision, the tin layer in front of him didn’t disappear. Furthermore, he felt incredibly weak.
Ye Hao’s expression underwent a drastic change. He wondered, “Has my X-ray Vision ability vanished?”
The thought frightened him, causing cold sweat to break out.
He had only recently grown accustomed to his X-ray Vision, and now it seemed to be gone.
However hard Ye Hao tried, his eyes couldn’t see through anything.
Disappointed, Ye Hao returned home.
At noon, Guo Xiu prepared a table full of his favorite dishes, hoping to lift Ye Hao’s spirits. But Ye Hao, caught in emotional turmoil, had no appetite.
Guo Xiu attributed her son’s lack of interest to him still being a little weak, so she didn’t overthink it.
Ye Hao couldn’t bring himself to rest all night.
He simply lay there, gazing at the ceiling.
After an unknown amount of time, Ye Hao suddenly caught sight of the azure sky.
