Chapter 144
Chapter 144 - Ye Hao's Plan
Is this the protective talisman Ye Hao mentioned?
Could it be a scam?
Zhang Jinsong thought to himself, yet he dared not voice his skepticism.
“Do you think it's a fake?”
Zhang Jinsong hastily shook his head.
“Do you have a gun?” Ye Hao inquired.
“Yes.” Given Zhang Jinsong's status, he had access to a firearm.
Zhang Jinsong handed over the gun from his waist to Ye Hao.
Ye Hao disengaged the safety and pointed the gun at Zhang Jinsong.
Zhang Jinsong tensed up immediately.
“Boss!” Zhang Jinsong cried out in alarm.
Bang! Ye Hao squeezed the trigger.
Simultaneously, the rune paper in Zhang Jinsong's hand burst into a golden glow, enveloping him in a light shield.
Zhang Jinsong could see a bullet spinning at high velocity in front of him, yet it was unable to penetrate the golden protective barrier.
Ye Hao reached out, seized the bullet, and the golden light shield vanished.
“Now do you believe it?”
“Yes.” Zhang Jinsong stared at the protective talisman in his hand, his eyes brimming with incredulity.
Had he not witnessed it firsthand, he would never have believed that a piece of rune paper could possess such power.
“Boss, how potent is this protective talisman?”
“Not even a sniper rifle could harm you,” Ye Hao stated calmly.
The force of a sniper rifle is many times greater than that of a handgun.
Upon hearing this, Zhang Jinsong's eyes sparkled as he gazed at the talisman in his hand.
“Boss, could you give me this amulet?”
Ye Hao regarded Zhang Jinsong and responded, “This talisman can only protect its bearer three times. Since you've used it for a test, I'll give it to you. The talismans I'm releasing tomorrow will only offer protection once.”
The talismans Ye Hao was preparing to release were a basic version.
The talisman he gave to Lan Qingqing was designed to shield her from harm by late period Innate Stage masters.
The two were not even remotely on the same level.
Ye Hao's decision to release only three talismans was a strategic move to cultivate a sense of mystery and power among the members.
He was aware that many senior members were observing with keen interest.
They were all curious about the capabilities of this enigmatic owner. If Ye Hao failed to demonstrate his strength, these members might stop frequenting the Immortals Retreat altogether.
“I'll start promoting it right away,” Zhang Jinsong declared with unwavering confidence.
Zhang Jinsong now understood why the Faang family was so fearful. After all, Ye Hao could very well be a legendary master from the Way of Nature. In the face of such a formidable figure, anyone would feel intimidated.
Ye Hao fixed his gaze on Zhang Jinsong and spoke earnestly, “Furthermore, I don't want any unsavory activities taking place in the club. Refrain from engaging in any illegal acts. If you do, no matter where you try to hide, I will find you and end you. However, if someone else instigates trouble, we shouldn't be afraid. Regardless of the severity of the repercussions from your actions, I will handle it.”
“I wouldn't dare,” Zhang Jinsong replied quickly.
“One last thing, make sure my identity remains confidential,” Ye Hao cautioned.
“Understood.”
With a nod, Ye Hao turned and departed. Upon his return to the private room, he noticed Xu Mengmeng's parents and their company had risen to their feet.
“It looks like everyone has had their fill. Let's head back,” Ye Hao suggested cheerfully.
“Thank you for your hospitality today,” Xu Mengmeng's mother said to Ye Hao with a gentle voice.
“This wasn't my doing,” Ye Hao said, gesturing towards Liang Bin, “He's the one you should thank.”
Xu Mengmeng's mother's expression turned to one of mild embarrassment.
After a moment of thought, Liang Bin inquired, “Ye Hao, are you acquainted with Mr. Zhang?”
“I don't know him,” Ye Hao replied.
Liang Bin was skeptical of Ye Hao's response.
“If you do know him, could you introduce me?” Liang Bin asked, his hands fidgeting with anticipation.
“Are we that close?” Ye Hao shot Liang Bin a glance.
Liang Bin was taken aback and fell silent, realizing that he was not in Ye Hao's league.
Seeing Liang Bin's discomfort, Xu Mengmeng's father suggested, “We should head back.”
As the group exited the Immortals Retreat, Xu Mengmeng spoke up, “Dad, Mom, I'm going back to school with Ye Hao.”
“Sure, go ahead,” Xu Mengmeng's mother quickly responded.
Previously, Xu Mengmeng's mother would have lectured her, but now her tone was nothing but encouraging.
A flicker of annoyance passed through Liang Bin's eyes.
Once they were in the taxi, Xu Mengmeng couldn't stop staring at Ye Hao.
“Do you realize how uncomfortable it is when you stare at me like that?” he asked.
“What kind of pressure?”
“The kind that makes a young man's hormones skyrocket.”
“Well, why don't you just do what you want to do?” Xu Mengmeng suggested, edging closer to Ye Hao.
Just then, the taxi screeched to a halt.
As Xu Mengmeng lurched forward, Ye Hao quickly reached out and steadied her.
The driver, still shaken, rolled down the window and demanded, “What's going on?”
Without a word, the figure outside coolly took a seat next to the driver. “Drive.”
“Who said you could get in?” the driver snapped.
The figure handed the driver a stack of hundred-yuan bills, prompting him to ask, “Where to?”
As he spoke, the driver examined the money closely.
It was genuine.
“To the intersection of Pearl Street and Sky Road.”
The driver glanced at Ye Hao and Xu Mengmeng, hesitating.
“We were here first,” Xu Mengmeng protested.
“Tell you what, you two can get out here, and I'll forget the fare. Deal?” the driver proposed after a moment's thought.
“You seem to be unaware of what the intersection of Pearl Street and Sky Road signifies,” Ye Hao interjected with a grin.
The driver paused, his face turning pale as he realized the location was a crematorium.
”You,” he stammered, frightened.
“You accepted my money; now you must take me there,” the figure insisted, emotionless.
It was then that the driver noticed the figure's deathly pale complexion and the chilling aura surrounding him.
The realization hit him: he was in the presence of a ghost.
“We should leave,” Ye Hao suggested calmly. “If you don't drive him, he'll just haunt you.”
The driver had almost forgotten about his other passengers.
“Go ahead and drive; I'll make sure you're safe,” Ye Hao reassured him with a smile.
Suddenly, the figure's head rotated a full 180 degrees, defying the laws of physics.
Xu Mengmeng let out a piercing scream and passed out.
Ye Hao's expression turned stern. “Do you believe I can obliterate your soul?”
Ye Hao's words resonated with an earth-shattering force, causing the figure before him to suddenly lose its luster.
It was as though he had sustained a massive blow. “Please, spare me.”
“Sit down,” Ye Hao commanded, his gaze icy as it swept over the figure.
Quickly, the figure turned his head aside.
