Chapter 141
Chapter 141 - Immortals Retreat
As the old professor posed question after question, his gaze upon Ye Hao grew increasingly radiant, for not a single answer from Ye Hao was incorrect.
The challenge in popularizing traditional medicine lay in the sheer volume of information practitioners were expected to remember. A single prescription could baffle countless students, with each containing anywhere from a dozen to thirty different herbs. Moreover, doctors had to tailor the herbs to each patient's specific needs.
Even renowned doctors wouldn't claim to have all the prescriptions memorized; they only remembered the most common ones. Yet, the student before him had committed to memory all one thousand prescriptions in the textbook. This was indeed astonishing.
“Your grasp of the prescriptions is impressive,” the old professor said with a smile to Ye Hao. “But along with memorizing them, do you understand the underlying pharmacology?”
“Of course!”
“What?” The old professor was taken aback.
Ye Hao had a firm understanding of pharmacology, having completed all the first-year courses in just a few days.
No matter what the old professor asked, Ye Hao consistently provided the correct answer immediately. After more than a dozen questions, the professor ceased asking; it was clear the student had mastered the entire book, as his responses were too fluid to suggest otherwise.
“You don't need to attend my classes anymore,” the old professor said with a chuckle.
“Thank you, Teacher,” Ye Hao replied, returning to his seat with a smile.
Half an hour later, the class bell signaled the end of the session. Zhang Lan approached Ye Hao with a grin.
”I have something to tell you.”
“What's that?”
“The autumn sports meet starts in three days.”
“And?”
“I've signed you up for the 100m and 400m sprints, as well as the 1500m and 3000m long-distance races,” Zhang Lan said, her eyes betraying her nervousness. She had registered him without his consent and was concerned he might be upset. Unable to reach Ye Hao, she had no other option.
“Is that all?” Ye Hao inquired.
“What?” Zhang Lan replied, caught off guard.
“As long as the events don't overlap, I'm in,” Ye Hao stated casually. “After all, I've got time on my hands.”
“Are you certain?”
“Yes.”
Zhang Lan swiveled around and settled back into her seat to review the sports meet schedule.
Without further ado, Zhang Lan registered Ye Hao for fourteen events.
Ye Hao was indifferent.
Three periods later, the afternoon classes concluded. Ye Hao joined the exiting throng, spotting Xu Mengmeng by the doorway.
“Xu Mengmeng, are you waiting for someone?” Ye Hao inquired gently.
“Yes, I'm waiting for someone.” Xu Mengmeng's smile revealed her prominent dimples.
“Then I'll be on my way.”
“I'm not waiting anymore.”
“Why's that?”
“Because the person I've been waiting for is here,” Xu Mengmeng replied cheerfully.
“You were waiting for me? What's up?” Ye Hao hadn't anticipated that Xu Mengmeng was there for him.
“I need a favor.”
“What kind?”
“Could you pretend to be my boyfriend?” Xu Mengmeng asked, her expression pleading.
“Why?”
“My parents are pressuring me to get married!”
“You're just a freshman.” Ye Hao was incredulous.
It seemed too soon for her parents to be pushing for marriage.
“But my parents are adamant about me marrying some wealthy local guy,” Xu Mengmeng explained with concern. “That's why I need you to pose as my boyfriend.”
Ye Hao was taken aback.
“Will you help me out?” Xu Mengmeng pleaded, shaking Ye Hao's arm and batting her large eyes.
“Alright, stop shaking me. I agree,” Ye Hao conceded reluctantly.
“Then let's go,” Xu Mengmeng declared.
“Now?”
“Yes.”
“I need to get ready.” Ye Hao, dressed casually, wanted to change into something more formal.
“What do you need to get ready for?”
“I'm going to change my clothes.”
“Okay.” Xu Mengmeng nodded in agreement.
Watching Ye Hao and Xu Mengmeng walk off side by side, Zhang Lan couldn't help feeling a twinge of jealousy.
“Can't you let go of Ye Hao?”
“How could I easily forget him?”
“Why not pursue him?”
“Ye Hao is already Tang Pianpian's boyfriend.”
Bai Hehua spoke solemnly, “As long as they're not married, there's still a chance. I truly hope that you'll be the one to marry Ye Hao in the end.”
“Let's talk about it later,” Zhang Lan said without responding to Bai Hehua, her steps heavy as she headed toward her dorm room.
Bai Hehua watched Zhang Lan's dejected silhouette, feeling deeply upset.
With Zhang Lan's looks, she deserved the finest man. Yet, Zhang Lan had fallen for Ye Hao.
Truth be told, Bai Hehua felt the same way.
At least eight boys in their class had a crush on Bai Hehua, and across the whole school, even more harbored secret affections for her. But her heart was set on Ye Hao.
Maybe it's true that we covet what we cannot have.
Xu Mengmeng was curiously inspecting Ye Hao's room when she quickly spotted two lace bras on the balcony, which made her face turn a shade paler.
As she wandered into the master bedroom, she came across a photo of Tang Pianpian.
Was Tang Pianpian actually living with Ye Hao?
Thankfully, Ye Hao and Tang Pianpian weren't sharing a room.
Emerging from the guest room in a suit, Ye Hao was met by Xu Mengmeng feigning composure as she asked, “Ye Hao, does Tang Pianpian live here?”
“Yes.”
“Why are you two living together?”
“It's complicated.”
“Complicated?”
“Yes.”
“Can you give me the details?”
“Now's not a good time,” Ye Hao deflected, “We should get going. Traffic in Glento is a nightmare at this hour.”
“Okay.” Xu Mengmeng was still curious about the living arrangement between Ye Hao and Tang Pianpian.
Yet, from their brief exchange, Xu Mengmeng was fairly certain that their cohabitation wasn't romantic in nature. If it were, Ye Hao wouldn't have any reason to hide it.
After all, not just anyone could claim to be Tang Pianpian's boyfriend!
Then again, there was another possibility: Ye Hao was lying.
And if he lied to Xu Mengmeng, it could mean he had feelings for her.
But was that even a remote possibility?
Ye Hao had never once sought her out for a chat. Xu Mengmeng found it hard to believe that Ye Hao could have feelings for her.
Together, they hailed a taxi and sped off toward their destination.
In Glento, traffic jams are a frequent occurrence.
At the moment, the two were caught in the midst of one.
They had reached their destination an hour and a half ago.
Ye Hao gazed at the Immortals Retreat before him, a look of astonishment in his eyes.
“What's the matter?” Xu Mengmeng inquired with curiosity.
“Why did you pick this place?” Ye Hao asked with a chuckle.
His amusement stemmed from the fact that the Immortals Retreat was owned by the Faang family. Not long ago, they had gifted the club to him.
