Chapter 100

C100 – (2)

“I thought you might run this time,” Ye Hao said with a grin.

“At a time like this, you’re joking?” Xiao Ming was cut off by a sharp crackling sound, then he watched as a bolt of lightning brutally struck the zombie.

The zombie screamed, black smoke billowing from its body.

“Are you just going to stand there and watch?” Ye Hao inquired.

“Is that Thunder Control you’re using?” Xiao Ming’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“What else?” Ye Hao retorted.

“With your current level of cultivation, how can you possibly wield Thunder Control?” Xiao Ming exclaimed, “And since when does Thunder Control pack such a punch?”

“You’re babbling.”

Without another word, Xiao Ming, clutching his peach wood sword, charged at the zombie.

As Xiao Ming neared the zombie, another bolt of lightning from the heavens struck the creature.

Simultaneously, Xiao Ming’s peach wood sword thrust through the zombie’s forehead.

The zombie collapsed instantly.

“Burn it,” Xiao Ming commanded at once.

A group of soldiers with flamethrowers hurried over.

Flames roared out, rapidly dissolving the zombie.

“Don’t stop,” Xiao Ming ordered sternly.

Ye Hao, looking weary, made his way toward Tang Pianpian.

The zombie was already mostly incinerated.

Besides, with Xiao Ming on guard, there was no chance it could come back.

However, as Ye Hao approached, he spotted a figure swiftly reaching for Tang Pianpian.

The figure moved with incredible speed.

“Not good,” Ye Hao realized immediately, recognizing the figure’s interest in Tang Pianpian’s spirit root.

Ye Hao quickly activated his ability to decelerate, then pushed his speed to the maximum.

Despite his efforts, Tang Pianpian was still swept up into the air by the figure.

“I never imagined I’d come across a woman with a top grade spirit root,” the figure mused.

“Let her go,” Ye Hao demanded, fixing his gaze on the black-robed middle-aged man before him.

“Kid, you’ve ruined my zombie. We haven’t settled that yet,” the black-robed middle-aged man sneered, “And here you are, delivering yourself to my doorstep.”

With that, the black-robed middle-aged man reached out toward Ye Hao.

Ye Hao moved uncontrollably towards the black-robed middle-aged man.

“Die.”

“Die.”

The first command came from the black-robed middle-aged man. As he spoke, his hand reached for Ye Hao’s throat.

The second was uttered by Ye Hao himself. As he spoke, he bit his tongue and sprayed a mouthful of blood at the black-robed middle-aged man.

The blood from his tongue hit the black-robed middle-aged man, who froze in midair as though struck by lightning.

“You!” The black-robed middle-aged man’s last word was spoken just before his body disintegrated into ashes.

Tang Pianpian began to fall helplessly, but Ye Hao quickly caught her in his arms and gently descended to the ground.

Xiao Ming hurried over, his face etched with disbelief. “That was a Blood Refining Stage being. How did you manage to kill him?”

“It seems every time you seek me out, it’s never for anything good,” Ye Hao said to Xiao Ming with a resigned expression.

The last time Xiao Ming had called on Ye Hao to hunt ghosts, they encountered the Phantom Sage.

This time, not only had they encountered a flying zombie, but they had also provoked an Evil Cult expert of the Blood Refining Stage.

“Don’t dodge the question.”

“My master gave me an amulet,” Ye Hao explained to Xiao Ming, “but it’s been rendered useless now.”

Xiao Ming looked quite sheepish.

Ye Hao wasn’t making it up. Divine Blood was incredibly sacred and made dealing with Evil Cult experts a simple task. However, Ye Hao’s reserves of Divine Blood were now dangerously low.

Once the divinity within the Divine Blood was fully absorbed by Ye Hao, he might lose this ability.

“We should head to the Keepers of Forbidden Lore,” Ye Hao said gravely.

“Indeed, it’s time we made our way to the Keepers of Forbidden Lore,” Xiao Ming agreed.

“Did you ever consider why this Evil Cult expert would brazenly appear in Khaka with a zombie in tow?” Tang Pianpian asked quietly.

“Whatever his reasons, this isn’t something we can meddle in,” Xiao Ming replied sternly.

“Exactly.” The Blood Refining Stage enemy was far too powerful, and Ye Hao was no match for him.

The Keepers of Forbidden Lore were a renowned sect in Ubliasia, known for their expertise in exorcising spirits and banishing demons. Ye Hao and Tang Pianpian had followed Xiao Ming through a winding path to the secluded rear mountain of the current Keepers of Forbidden Lore.

”We’ve arrived at the Keepers of Forbidden Lore,” Xiao Ming announced, gesturing towards a cliff ahead.

“Really?” Ye Hao responded, his surprise evident.

With a gesture, Xiao Ming cast a spell and, in a blink, a doorway materialized before them.

“A formation?”

“Yes. Without it, the tranquility of the Keepers of Forbidden Lore would be vulnerable to worldly disruptions,” Xiao Ming explained as he ushered them through the portal.

Beyond the threshold, Ye Hao was greeted by the sight of a quaint bridge arching over a stream, several ancient pathways, and a handful of pavilions nestled amidst verdant surroundings. It was as if they had stepped into an idyllic haven known as Arcadia.

”Is this truly the Keepers of Forbidden Lore?” Tang Pianpian inquired, her voice tinged with awe.

“Yes.”

“Is there a spiritual vein beneath the Keepers of Forbidden Lore?” Ye Hao felt every acupoint in his body open, eagerly soaking in the spiritual energy from the environment.

“Each of the Three Sects and Six Factions is built upon a spiritual vein, hence why they’re referred to as paradises,” Xiao Ming replied with a smile.

“There don’t seem to be many disciples in the Keepers of Forbidden Lore?”

“We have only 108 in our generation.”

“Does that mean there aren’t many cultivators in Castoace?”

“The orthodox sects indeed have fewer cultivators, but the numbers swell within the evil sects because their techniques are simpler to master,” Xiao Ming said gravely. “Yet, despite the prevalence of those who practice these dark arts, the true powerhouses emerge from the orthodox sects, which is why the Three Sects and Six Factions maintain their superiority.”

“Why is that?” Tang Pianpian pressed.

“The path of the wicked offers quick progress, but it leaves the cultivators with shaky foundations. Once their base is compromised, reaching the pinnacle of their power becomes an impossibility.”

As they conversed, Xiao Ming led Ye Hao and Tang Pianpian to a courtyard.

“Master, it’s Xiao Ming. I seek an audience with you,” Xiao Ming called out respectfully at the entrance.

“Enter,” came a voice, seasoned with age, from within.

When Xiao Ming led Ye Hao and Tang Pianpian into the main hall, a voice filled with surprise and uncertainty rang out. An old man, disheveled and clutching a chicken leg, emerged, his face lighting up with delight.

“Top grade spirit root.”

“I’ve brought my friend here to seek your assistance in concealing her spirit root,” Xiao Ming explained.

“Young lady, would you consider joining the Keepers of Forbidden Lore?” the unkempt elder inquired solemnly.

Tang Pianpian exchanged a glance with Ye Hao and gently shook her head.

“What a shame,” the elder muttered, his expression tinged with disappointment. Nonetheless, he quickly proceeded to trace an efficacious charm in the air.

Before long, a ghostly efficacious charm materialized for all to see.

“Xiao Ming’s master can actually form an efficacious charm out of thin air,” Ye Hao exclaimed, his face etched with astonishment.
