Chapter 526 THE SILENCE BEFORE STORM
Chapter 526 THE SILENCE BEFORE STORM
"I told you that you will get hurt," Chaos said in a somber tone.
"I chose to be with you, I don't regret it," Zuri replied. She shook her head, but tears filled her gray eyes, which reminded Chaos of rainy days.
"But, you are hurt," Chaos stated and Zuri couldn't deny it. She didn't regret her decision when she said she wanted to be with him, but it didn't mean she was immune to pain.
Zuri lowered her head when Chaos cupped her face with both of his hands.
"Take a rest, Blue, you need it," Chaos said in a whispery tone, as he pulled her closer and her body relaxed.
Zuri felt her eyelids droop, they were so heavy. Chaos used his power to put her to sleep and she couldn't refuse, she didn't even have time to complain when her whole body lost its strength and she slipped into a deep slumber.
Chaos caught her body and carried her in his arms. He stared into Zuri's face, she looked exhausted, her brows furrowed deeply and she lost a lot of weight.
"How can I keep you safe?" Chaos muttered. "How can I give you a peaceful life?"
Chaos walked out of the room, as he carried her to their bedroom and laid her down gently.
"Don't get hurt… Don't cry… don't get sick…"
Zuri slept throughout the night and Chaos only left her when he needed to see Gael and Skylar to hear the rest of their report, but after that, he spent his time with her until the sun rose and she whimpered in her sleep.
She woke up not long after that and found Chaos was sitting next to her, while she was using his lap as a pillow.
"How do you feel?" Chaos put his hand above her head to block the bright sunlight falling into her eyes, as she stretched her body lazily. She yawned and snuggled closer to him, it seemed she forgot what had happened yesterday for a moment. "Are you hungry?"
"A little," Zuri replied, her voice cracked and she curled her body like a kitten, while Chaos caressed her head. If she were in her wolf form, she would have purred by now.
"What do you want to eat?" Chaos asked tenderly.
Zuri didn't say anything, she had her eyes closed and seemed to have fallen asleep until she spoke again, this time her voice was a little bit clear.
"How's Knox?" She seemed to have recalled the events that unfolded yesterday, but she didn't open her eyes.
"He will be fine." Chaos played with her white hair, it was so soft. "He just needs some time."
Zuri opened her eyes and then met with Chaos's dark ones. She missed his blue eyes, but recently, his eyes only got darker and darker, it worried her.
"What if…" Zuri bit her lip. "What if he turns his back…"
"He will not do that," Chaos reassured her that something like that would never happen.
The way he said it, it almost felt like he had something planned ahead. "How can you be so sure?"
"He is my shattered soul and I have known him for a long time," Chaos replied.
Outside of the window, the sun was getting brighter, this was a perfect day, but it was a contrast to what Zuri felt right now.
"If worse comes to worst, I know how to stop him," he said lightly, as if he was talking to himself.
Chaos didn't say it out loud nor did he elaborate what he meant, but Zuri knew that if worse came to worst, Chaos would take his soul back from Knox and it would be the end of him.
After that, there was silence that befell between them, as both of them stared at the sunlight that streamed down from the window.
Chaos laughed softly when he heard the growling sound from Zuri's stomach. She was put to sleep so early yesterday and had not eaten anything yet.
"Come, I will make something for you," Chaos said, as he tapped her arm.
Zuri sat down, her hair was a mess. It was almost like a bird's nest, but the look on her face was so adorable, that Chaos couldn't help but lean over to kiss her lips.
"What do you want to eat?" Chaos asked.
"You will cook?" Zuri combed her hair with her fingers, her hair had grown so long, she needed to cut it. It reached her hips already.
"Yes."
"Don't you just need to do this." Zuri flicked her fingers. "And there will be food for us to eat?" She felt lazy, she didn't want to get out of bed.
"I don't have the energy to do that."
Zuri frowned. "Is your condition that bad?"
"I am fine, I just want to cook something for you, conventionally." Chaos noticed what concerned Zuri and then turned around in front of her.
Seeing that, Zuri grinned and then hopped on his back. She quickly wrapped her arms around his neck as Chaos put his arms behind her knees.
"I want to eat meat." Zuri nuzzled his neck, she was still sleepy, the effect was still strong.
"A pup," Chaos snickered and Zuri laughed.
"Should I shift now?"
"Do you want me to see you naked?"
"I am not a pup, I am a bold wolf. Rrr!" Zuri defended herself. Her long, white hair scattered in front of Chaos's body, as she nuzzled him again.
"My lovely wolf," Chaos corrected her.
They went to the kitchen and Chaos put her on a barstool, as Zuri watched Chaos grill meat for them.
He knew that she loved meat, therefore, they would have an abundant stock of meat for her, but recently, her appetite was not really good.
"Chaos in the kitchen," Zuri grinned and Chaos smiled at her remark.
This was a rare moment for them.
But, this was also the silence before the storm.
