Unlimited Power 03: The Sinful Ruler

Chapter 309 Recklessness

As expected, the enemies came in groups of two and pointed their hands at Jake, even though he was fifty meters away, and fired mana cannon. Jake blocked the attack with his sword, but he began to be pushed backward.

"I can't let them break my new sword…" Jake thought and then used Deflect.

Since it wasn't a single projectile, Jake managed to only decrease the weight of the attack for a moment by sending the energy toward the enemies. However, since it was a continuous spell, it wasn't more useful than that… as a melee fighter, there wasn't a worse situation that he could have been in. Still, Jake just clicked his tongue and then jumped to the side before using Flash.

In the next moment, Jake's sword Pierced the chest of one of the enemies, and then he used Steel Storm. There wasn't much space around to move, but in the end, he damaged the first iron golem beyond repair and then caused a lot of damage to the second. However, both of them fell to the ground like puppets without a master.

"Oh… it works on them as well. I wonder why," Jake thought, but then he got rid of those thoughts when he saw more iron golems pointing their hands at him.

Jake hit the ground with Explosive Touch and then raised a dust curtain. In the next moment, he crunched down and then moved away from the enemies. He had an idea of how to deal with them from a distance now…

Jake was at his starting point when the dust dissipated and fired his Mana Blades. As expected, the iron golems tried to repel them with the mana cannons, but Jake smirked as he watched his attacks enhanced with the dark flames cutting through the spells. In the next moment, their hands were damaged, and then the spells stopped. Jake used that chance to attack again by approaching and then using Steel Storm.

The enemies fell down, and Jake immediately returned to his starting point. It wasn't the best strategy to use, but it was the only one that was effective while Jake could save some of his strength. Unfortunately, it would be naive to think that he could keep using the same strategy hundreds of times.

While he was thinking about what to do, Jake kept fighting like that until the enemies stopped coming for a while. That was weird. He didn't destroy even one hundred of them… however, after a while, a single iron golem showed up, and cables of many other of golems connected to its back… Jake didn't like that.

In the end, Jake's gut feeling was right… The enemy fired a massive beam of energy. It was like that thing had the power of ten others…  Jake put his sword in front of him to block the attack, but upon impact, he was sent flying to the interior of the dungeon. After hitting the walls several times, he finally stopped, but then he heard several footsteps coming from behind.

When he heard the sound of the cannons being pointed at him, Jake looked at them and made a massive saw of dark flames split the enemies in half… Jake finally understood why the flames were so effective… it was because it could damage their magic circuits and prevent them from being repaired altogether… Regardless, Jake couldn't use that strategy too much, and now he just used even more than he was supposed to at once.

"Who cares about that," Jake thought while he was getting up.

Jake decided to retreat a bit until he found a bifurcation, and then he hid on the side. After not so long, he heard the footsteps of the enemy, and the iron golem showed up; Jake swung down his sword and cut the monster cleanly in two.

As expected, he pulled it off instantly. What he didn't expect was the fact that several other iron golems followed that one and mimicked the same movements of the first to make the sound of their movements hard to hear. Moreover, all of them were connected by cables, and the first attack with the same massive energy beam.

Jake jumped to the side and dodged the attack. Unfortunately, while he took cover, the enemies knew where he had hidden, and in front of him, Jake only found a dead end, so soon he was going to be surrounded…

Using its limited flight capacity, the iron golem moved to the side, already pointing its hand cannon toward Jake. In that short window of time, Jake approached and then swung his sword again. Thanks to the power of the dark flames, the creature was split in half and then was destroyed, but soon another advanced and took its place. At that point in time, Jake realized that it wasn't only the leader that was connected with others by cables.

"This might work…" Jake thought while he grabbed the rings filled with mana on his magic cubes.

Jake used Flash back and forth when the next enemy showed up without letting the enemy attack. He had considerably weakened the power of his dark flames, but after the third strike, he managed to destroy the iron golem's circuits, and the creature fell. He waited until the next creature appeared and repeated the process. In the end, he managed to pull it off while making his mind not get too tired. Still, he didn't think that only twenty iron golems would come to finish him off.

Since Jake wasn't so far away from the entrance of the dungeon, he could feel the ground trembling, and it was hard to say from which direction the trembling was coming from. Jake furrowed his eyebrows and then assumed that enemies would come from both sides, and he wouldn't fall for the enemies' tricks again…

In the end, one iron golem showed coming from the last room of the dungeon and then attacked him. Instead of counterattacking, Jake used Flash to the other side of the bifurcation and found another group of iron golems on the side. His guess was right…

"If I can't rest for long, then…" Jake thought.

Jake enhanced his sword with dark flames and then used Flash to attack the first enemy. With a single swing, he split the iron golem in two, and when the enemy fell to the ground, he hid behind its corpse when the massive mana cannon was fired. Jake could tell that the pile of iron wouldn't last forever, but he was satisfied knowing that the enemies were wasting a lot of mana.

At that point in time, Jake understood something, since they were robots, their mana also determined how much damage they could withstand… he wondered why he didn't realize such a simple thing so soon. The more mana they use, the less durable they become…

In the end, Jake just had to be patient until the golem that was protecting him was destroyed and the enemies used too much mana. He kicked the ground to the side and then landed on the wall. Before he could fall, he used Flash and then passed through the side the line of enemies and then stopped behind them.

Once that happened, Jake attacked them with Steel Tornado. Since their bodies were connected to cables, they couldn't turn around and face him… in the end, the iron golems were defeated without posing much of a problem. It was weird how the way they used to become more powerful also made them stupidly weaker in some aspects.

"I guess I can save some mana like this…" Jake said and then sighed to recover a bit.

It didn't take long for more iron golems to come, and they came in higher numbers each time. Fortunately, it didn't look like they could see how their allies were defeated. So, they were like really stupid machines that could only try to solve problems with brute strength and numbers.

Regardless, Jake was fine with that since it was his chance to increase his recovery even more. Unfortunately, it looked like he wouldn't have much time to do that since he found hear explosions coming from outside. He could tell that the tattooed guys were back, and they most likely wanted to use the crystal and recover their other allies.

"For a bunch of mages, they sure are reckless…" Jake thought.

In one way or the other, those guys were going to get in Jake's way, even if they had a good reason to do that… it was troublesome. Eventually, the monsters stopped returning to the dungeon, and they began to fight the tattooed guys… when Jake went out to check things, he saw two groups attacking the enemies. Unfortunately, neither of them was making much progress…, and it was hard to say if the first group had returned or if both of them were other groups. There was a chance that Jake would be considered an enemy as well…
